The Hobbit Delayed, Still No Studio Greenlight

Reports are coming in that filming of the LOTR prequel movies will be delayed from the original estimate of March 2010 to mid-summer 2010, possibly July.

It was previously reported that The Hobbit movies will begin filming in March of next year. But Peter Jackson has now revealed to TheOneRing.net that the start date has been moved to the summer..

"We're currently working on the second script which we hope to have completed by the end of this year or beginning of next," he said. "When the scripts are completed, we can begin with the exact calculation of the necessary budget. We hope to start filming in the middle of next year. However, we've received no green light from the studio yet."

Jackson didn't elaborate on whether these delays in filming would affect the scheduled release dates of December 2011 and December 2012. The lack of a green light at this stage is a bit worrying. With the financial trouble MGM is reporting, it's a fair bet they are just waiting for a full cast before they shell out the mountain of cash needed to film these movies. But, c'mon, I mean, it's The Hobbit..it's Del Toro and Jackson, have some faith studio types!
