False Alarm! Bilbo will NOT be played by Tobey Maguire

With the news spreading like wild fire on the internet, this rumor was quickly put to rest. It would be very difficult for this to happen since Spider-Man 4 should start production next year. The Hobbit will be 2 movies and will tie up the main actors for some time.

Dismissing the Spider-Bilbo nonsense, Tolkien fansite TheOneRing says: "Our sources indicate this rumour is NOT valid, again, this is NOT true according to our sources."

And, over at Movieline, Maguire's publicist screeched: ""This is false!"

I know some of you were getting excited that this might bring a new Spidey but it seems Tobey will still be web slinging.

I really hope Dr. Strange does end up with him directing and Gaiman writing. If that is so, I would want to see it before Hobbit as well, though I do love the idea of the Hobbit movies.

Dr Strange has a ton of upside for a CBM. It just needs to not be over the top.

Leee-I am sure you have but I gotta ask-have you done a Strange fancast?

@ Jersualem: lol @ God being a Tolkien fan. He obviously favors C.S. Lewis! ;D

But a Gaiman written, Del Toro directed version of Dr. Strange would be EPIC, to say the least.

BTW, Tobey Macguire would suck as Bilbo Baggins.

Bilbo should be older in my opinion; at least older than Frodo and the other Hobbits of the Fellowship. Frodo was supposed to be 50 during the War of the Ring with Pippin being the youngest at 36, or so. (Fun Fact: Frodo is the oldest in the book, but Elijah Wood was the youngest in the movie. Likewise, Pippin was the youngest in the book but Billy Boyd was the oldest of the Hobbits!)

I can understand why they went younger and cast Elijah Wood as Frodo, but Bilbo is a homebody. An old-ish, crotchety man set in his ways who doesn't want to be bothered and is then thrust into the middle of an adventure. Plus, in order for the Hobbit to be set 60 years in the past, and have Bilbo be 111 during LOTR, he'd have to be 51 for the movie.

Soo...can we please stick with just a little continuity and cast someone who can at least LOOK older in make-up?

Update on TheMYTH from his friend Chris AKA Humbled:

“Apparently they have found a slow working balance between the 2 and now all 3 major tumors are about 20% smaller than they were when he came in…. On top of that, he was able to have a few hours of real consciousness yesterday morning. He spent it with his new son who he'd not met until then. I sat in the corner of the room the whole time just watching the most resilient person to ever face their own mortality. Even though any who could see him could tell he was in considerable pain, his humor and wit were still intact. Doctors say if no more complications come along, he might be able to be home about Christmas time and continue his treatment through outpatient. Apparently this type of cancer is typically treated this way…. When this first started a little over a month ago he had less than 2% survival chance, now it's a 1-in-4. I'm sure Myth would have something to say about the power of the collective consciousness of humanity after reading this article and being able to see just how many people are rooting for him.”

He includes a poem from theMyth’s own writings.

He also mentions The Myth’s stories and fan fics and Myth’s family:

” I told Amanda (MYTH’s wife) about this article and she viewed it. She said she was at a loss for words and couldn't see to type a comment. She said that this was something phenomenal and it would leave even 'Myth' at a loss for words. I'm sure she'll be back soon to give thanks. “

Keep posting guys for MYTH and his family, they need all the strength and encouragement and well wishes and love they can get now. The MYTH is still alive and fighting, so cheer the man on!

Hobbits age much slower than humans. Hobbits "come of age" when they're 33, so you can think of them being the equivalent of 18 then. Therefore, at 50 years old, Frodo would look about as young as Elijah Wood did in the movies. They did it right.

That would have been worse than Mcavoy. I would prefer Mcavoy over many actors though. I'm hoping Martin Freeman gets it, or an unknown.

great points Irvine! Bilbo should at least LOOK a bit older than Frodo did. I'd like to see more of a middle-aged 'character actor' type get the part, but I don't expect that to happen.

Would like very much to see a new Spidey, though. Maguire showed his limitations as an actor in Spidey 3. This is one time I'd like to see someone a bit younger (Spidey should be in his 20's, not look like he's pushing 40) cast. As usual, give me an unknown. Big stars want big money and have other commitments that get in the way of making more movies.

A message to all CBMers from THEPHOENIX (THEHAWK's wife):

"Hawk was in a pretty bad motorcycle wreck this weekend. He is stable, but still unconscious. Someone has also gotten into HAWK's e-mail account and changed the password. They are now using it to contact everyone he knows and ask for money. He is not stuck in Europe or hiding out in Pakistan, he is in a hospital bed. It is a scam! So to everyone that was contacted, DO NOT send any money transfers!!!"
