Nicholas Cage's Dual Role In Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance Revealed

Nicholas Cage's Dual Role In Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance Revealed

Earlier on a Tweet suggested Nicholas Cage may be playing both the hero and villain in the upcoming Ghost Rider sequel. Now co-director Brian Taylor clears things up..

The tweet(check out the original article here) which caused some confusion read..

"The dual role of blaze/zarathos will be a nic cage classic"

So Collider went to Taylor to find out what was going on. Cage will indeed be playing two roles, but not the hero and villain as was previoualy thought. He will be playing both Johhny Blaze and Ghost Rider. Confused? Read on..

According to Taylor..

"Zarathos is the spirit of vengeance that inhabits john blaze when he becomes ghost rider. unlike the 1st movie, where the rider was stiffly acted out by a various stunt guys, nic will be playing all the ghost rider stuff himself – and we are creating a whole physical language for the demon that is different from the human blaze."

So Cage will get to do his thing(which generally people either love or hate) much more this time around. I like Cage, I think his particular style of acting can be very effective if its channelled properly(Bad Lieutenant) but disastrous when it isn't (The first Ghost Rider imo). Crank duo Taylor and Mark Neveldine have proved they can handle action(albeit completely over the top action), so lets hope they can reign in The Cage a bit while they are at it!

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance hits theatres February 17, 2012.

Awesome find @Ror! Neveldine and Taylor can definiely handle great action. The thing I hope they will remove from this film is their overuse of shaky camera. Other than that, I think they are able to make a good sequel.

I pretty much a big fan of Cage and will usually fogive him anything purely on the grounds that he did Raising Arizona, Leaving Las Vegas and Wild at Heart.

I just think he is a little too old for this part now - I always thought Johnny Blaze should be a cocky, young stunt rider.

However I to love his 'style' and sort of liked the what they tried to do in the first GR. I thought the villains let that film down.

Interesting news. Don't think Cage is well suited to Blaze though.

Check out my Ghost Rider FANCAST on my page.

Cage always plays two roles in movies. He plays Nic Cage and he plays Elvis.

Good stuff ROR. I like Nicolas Cage for the most part and although I think he's a little too old to play Johnny Blaze, I'm cool with giving him another chance because both he and the effects were the only half decent things about the first movie. (and that's being VERY generous, lol)

this could mean more time on screen for the demon and not so much for Blaze, wich is good.

JOSH @ Yeah you gotta love CAGE! ; P

Damn the man actually owns the Johnny Blaze bike in real life!

Just imagine if we got REAL supernatural MARVEL villains in this baby!

I also remember once CAGE wanted a SPIDEY cameo, like a couple of seconds to make the movies have that MARVEL connection, be it SPIDEY or a Spidey character, anyways if that happens, it'll be [frick]ing pretty sweet!

They still need to do something about the retarded voice they chose in the first one for Ghost Rider. That was completely off the mark.

Oh, you know you do it too!

That's a good way to cut production costs. Use 1 actor for 2 main characters. Now the budget halving makes sense.

@DCompose You made me wonder what the to 20 worst CBM of all time would look like. I think 'Steel' would actually beat 'Catwoman' for worst CBM.

I've been away for a little while but I love coming back to this site and finding a ton of great news! Evans Cap FTW! TDK Rises = epic. Ghost Rider 2...meh, but I'll be watching it.
