JUSTICE LEAGUE Director Zack Snyder Debunks Rumor He's Helming A GHOST RIDER Movie For Marvel Studios

Justice League and Army of the Dead director Zack Snyder has debunked a rumor that he plans to direct a Ghost Rider movie for Marvel Studios, admitting that it's a "fun" idea. Read on for details...

There are certain websites that run on making up blatantly false stories and hoping they'll gain traction online. We avoid those here at ComicBookMovie.com, but one YouTuber who recently had the opportunity to talk to Zack Snyder about Army of the Dead fell hook, line, and sinker for one bogus rumour.

According to this recent "scoop," Snyder is being lined up to direct a Ghost Rider movie for Marvel Studios. There have been rumblings that the Spirit of Vengeance could appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but we've heard nothing concrete about plans for the character since he was last seen in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

As you might expect, it's not actually happening.

"Oh, really? I don't know that" the filmmaker confirmed. "It's kind of fun, I gotta be honest. It's cool, you're like, 'Oh yeah, no, Ghost Rider is a done deal!' No. But no, it's not."

While Snyder has a dedicated fanbase, it's impossible to imagine Marvel Studios ever enlisting him for a movie. If, as a writer or director, you join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, you're expected to abide by a certain set of rules, and we're pretty sure Kevin Feige wouldn't stand for any sort of #ReleaseTheSnyderCut nonsense when it comes to Ghost Rider or any other character!

It would definitely be interesting to see what the Justice League helmer would bring to the MCU, but we can safely say Snyder won't be revving up a Ghost Rider movie any time soon.

9. LEGO R2-D2

3434343433412245213333

Updated for 2021, LEGO's latest R2-D2 is arguably its best yet.

This features a tonne of cool features, including a retractable mid-leg that drops from standing to driving position, meaning he can be displayed (or played with) in any number of ways. There's also a rotating head and rising periscope, an extendable front hatch to extend contact tools, and most impressively, a secret compartment containing Luke Skywalker's lightsaber.

For a dad who loves Star Wars, this is perhaps one of the best possible ways to keep them entertained on Father's gift, and a cool gift no matter how old they are. R2 is available wherever LEGO is sold.

8. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart

Set to be released on June 11, the next instalment in PlayStation's hit Ratchet & Clank franchise arrives just in time for Father's Day. Thanks to the pandemic, PS5 games have been few and far between since last November, but Rift Apart looks like it takes full advantage of the console's hardware.

"Go dimension-hopping with Ratchet and Clank as they take on an evil emperor from another reality," reads the game's synopsis. "Jump between action-packed worlds and beyond at mind-blowing speeds – complete with dazzling visuals and an insane arsenal – as the intergalactic adventurers blast onto the PS5 console."

This should be a blast, and seeing as the franchise has been around since 2002, we're sure your dad will have fond memories of this series.

7. The Falcon And The Winter Soldier Funko Pops

3434343433412245213333e

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier may have concluded on Disney+, but the series is one that promises to have major ramifications for the Marvel Cinematic Universe moving forward.

However, just because the series is over, that doesn't mean new merchandise isn't still on the way! Funko has actually just dropped a new wave of Pops, with the new Captain America put front and centre. U.S. Agent, Bucky, and Sharon Carter will all also be available, while the likes of The Falcon and Baron Zemo can still be found.

Honestly, what MCU fan wouldn't enjoy opening a set of these up on June 20?

6. Zack Snyder's Justice League Blu-ray

3434343433412245213333e

Unfortunately for those of you in the U.S., this one only applies to DC fans in the UK!

Released on DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K on May 24, Zack Snyder's Justice League can finally be added to your collection on disc, and as the Snyder Cut has only been available on Sky Cinema up until this point, we're sure you could make your dad happy with this one on Father's Day.

There's even a cool Steelbook edition available, and this is an affordable purchase that the whole family can enjoy next month...just make sure you keep the entire afternoon or evening free because as well as the four-hour movie, it comes bundled with a making-of documentary.

5. Wizarding World

3434343433412245213333e

We've covered Marvel, DC, and Star Wars, but there are no doubt plenty of your dads out there who are big into the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts!

Loot Crate's officially licensed Wizarding World crate celebrates Dumbledore's Army. To help you master the Defence Against the Dark Arts, this crate features an exclusive Hogwarts House Snapback, an exclusive Dumbledore’s Army Tee, an exclusive Hogwarts Puzzle, an exclusive D.A. Deatheater Cornhole Game, and much more.

4. Disney+ Subscription

3434343433412245213333e

There are a lot of great streaming services out there, and pretty much all of them feature heaps of must-see content. However, a favourite of ours right now has to be Disney+.

This year, the streamer has added WandaVision and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Star Wars: The Bad Batch is currently releasing new episodes every week, and we're just days away from Loki's premiere. Throw in Premier Access movies like Cruella and Black Widow, and there's a lot to delve into.

If you live in the UK, there's even the Star tab, and that includes plenty of classic content your dad might want to revisit.

3. The Mandalorian Electronic Helmet

3434343433412245213333e3

Released as part of Hasbro's "Black Series" range, this electronic helmet based on The Mandalorian's Din Djarin probably means your dad will spend the whole day wearing it and saying, "This is the Way."

That could get annoying, but there's no denying how cool this is. Featuring a removable tactical light and interior welcome lights, your dad can imagine what it was like for this bounty hunter to suit up to track down his targets, or to protect a mysterious alien pursued by bounty hunters on behalf of Imperial interests.

Din has become the ultimate TV dad, so this feels like a fitting Father's Day gift!

2. F9: The Fast Saga Tickets

3434343433412245213333e3

Okay, so this isn't released until June 25, but we're sure your dad will still be grateful to receive tickets for the blockbuster that looks set to kick off the summer movie season in style.

In F9: The Fast Saga, Diesel’s Dom Toretto is leading a quiet life off the grid with Letty and his son, little Brian, but they know that danger always lurks just over their peaceful horizon. That danger is his brother, played by John Cena, and with the franchise set to head into outer space...well, this is gonna be a crazy ride!

As an alternative, In the Heights is released this weekend, so that's a great pick for any musical lovers out there!

1. LEGO Spider-Man Daily Bugle

3434343433412245213333e33

LEGO's largest Marvel set to date, The Daily Bugle features 3,772 pieces, stands at over 32 inches tall, and is crammed full of Easter Eggs for fans. It also comes with 25 minifigures, including The Punisher, Daredevil, Blade, Venom, Gwen Stacy, Miles Morales, Firestar, Spider-Ham, Black Cat, and J. Jonah Jameson.

If your dad loves Spider-Man, then this has to be the ultimate Father's Day gift. It's damn impressive looking too, and should take a while to piece together. There's a lot we love about this one, though the inclusion of the Spider-Mobile makes us particularly happy if we're being honest!

The Daily Bugle set will retail for £274.99/$299.99 and arrives in stores on June 1st (VIP cardholders will be able to order theirs on May 26th).

@RageDriver2401 - could probably do Dragon Ball Z. Main draw of that was cool action, so shouldnt be hard to replicate

@dracula - no I love Dragon Ball.
Spock0Clock

@dracula - If they got the Man of Steel visual team for Dragon Ball, then great. But Snyder also proved with Batman vs Superman that his eye for action is wildly inconsistent (that movie just looks terrible overall). And if Snyder had any story control at all, he'd [frick] up Goku so bad.

For a while I thought he might be a good fit for Conan, but even then I'm afraid what he'd do when he gets to play with scenes of sexual violence. In the end, I just don't think Snyder can be trusted to make the right decisions (when he's unsupervised), and without trust, I can't condone giving him any franchise that people love (as RageDriver put it).

@RageDriver2401 - i loved it growing up as well, but it was mostly repetitive story beats and amazing action.

He couldnt possibly mess that up......could he

@dracula - don't underestimate him, he'll straight up make Goku hate earth.
roboticJohnson
roboticJohnson - 6/7/2021, 2:39 AM
@dracula - if dragon ball evolution thaught me anything it's that yes, it's possible to mess that up. But still, I don't think snyder would be a good fit for a dragon ball movie. As you said, it's mostly action and fairly common story beats, zack would probably add deep sad themes, blurry shots and slo mo and make the whole thing difficult to get through. And mind you, those things could work great for other movies, but not for dragon ball imo.

FinnishDude - 6/7/2021, 2:53 AM
@dracula - He would be terrible for Dragon Ball. It's too wacky, comedic and colorful for his sensibilities.

After giving it a bit of thought, James Wan might be my first pick for a Dragon Ball franchise. The kind of Fast and the Furious vibe (with the glorification of violence as the solution to every problem but with interpersonal dynamics, usually macho bromances) does fit, and Wan seems to enjoy the opportunity for some goof and slapstick, too.

I didn't really like Aquaman, but I feel like I see the pieces for a good Dragon Ball movie in there (if it had a good script). Ideally, I'd like to see it build the franchise up from its roots before trying to jump straight to DBZ. Do a movie of young adult Goku's adventures to build the world, then maybe a movie that combines the Roshi training period and the 21st/22nd tournaments in a more traditional "sports movie" (maybe introducing King Piccolo as more of a murderous rival than a world-conquering demon, but retaining the tournament victory as the movie's main goal, think Rocky 4).

Then you do your time skip and start DBZ proper. It's a lot of material to get there, but I really do think that skipping the charm of Dragon Ball in favor of jumping straight to "the good stuff" is a mistake. (I actually think Dragon Ball Evolution showed signs of good intentions in that respect essentially replacing Pilaf with Piccolo, but the problems with that movie are wider and already well established.)

Streamlining Dragon Ball into two movies, focusing on building the Z Fighters up as an ensemble crew in a F&F kind of way, and making some tweaks to the aesthetic and overall vibe are all in Wan's wheelhouse, I think (with a good writing room, of course).

@dracula - But the thing about Dragonball is it focuses on rrally fast-paced action, which is the complete opposite of how Snyder likes to do action. He's like the king of slow motion. That would feel weird with Dragonball.
Spock0Clock
Spock0Clock - 6/7/2021, 5:16 AM
@CorndogBurglar - "focuses on really fast-paced action"

...Does it though? I get your point about the slow motion, but the magic of Dragon Ball to me is the dragged out pacing between the brief moments when there are actual punches being landed. Drawing out the Kamehameha because you know it's going to be a Big One. Charging a Spirit Bomb. Watching as a fighter transforms to new level of power.

It's the down time that sells those fights, I think. Makes them feel weighty.
FinnishDude
FinnishDude - 6/7/2021, 5:32 AM
@Spock0Clock - That depends whenever you are talking about the original manga or the anime adaptation. The manga is fairly fast-paced, while the anime had to drag everything out and come up with a filler scene/episode/story-arc after another, because they were catching up to the manga chapters.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 6/7/2021, 7:38 AM
@Spock0Clock - Those things I can see Snyder being good at, actually. But yeah, the actually fighting is done in very fast scenes.

@Repian - Man, Chad Stahelski would be almost too perfect for The Punisher. But yeah, I can also see him directing Ghost Rider with Keanu as Johnny Blaze.

I can even imagine "The Orb" in Stahelski's Ghost Rider.

He may be the leader of a psycho biker gang. A secondary villain.

Snyder needs to stay away from comic book movies.

his best ones are Watchmen and 300 and literally all he did there was copy and paste the book.

DC or Marvel get Frede Alvarez

he would be good for Ghost Rider or Constantine

On Another Topic, just picked up a trade paperback of Hellblazer 1-9 and 2 Swamp Thing tie ins. Will for sure be getting the original run by Jamie Delano, have yet to decide on the others

They would never enlist Snyder for Ghost Ryder for one he's not a typical MCU yes man. I think they would go into more of the community and Rick & Morty pool for Ghost Rider.
