NOLA.com is reporting that GI Joe will be filming in New Orleans this August, and filming will run through November. The state of Louisiana's film and video office announced that the John Chu led production was coming to New Orleans but then a couple hours later retracted the statement at the studios request. Also according to the site the title for the sequel will be GI Joe 2: Cobra Strikes.

Here is the report from NOLA.com:

The sequel to 2009's effects-laden action film G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, which is at least for now titled G.I. Joe 2: Cobra Strikes appears to be ready to begin shooting in the Crescent City(New Orleans) on Aug. 1, with the nearly four-month shoot continuing through late November.

On Friday afternoon, the state's office of film and video reported the production was preparing to come to Louisiana. Then, at about 2:30 p.m., it issued a retraction at the studio's request, saying no site had been officially selected. It did say, however, that the studio was "seriously considering" Louisiana.

GI Joe 2: Cobra Strikes will be released on August 10, 2012.

Unfortunately you're right. We get the same emotionless Duke. Channing Tatum honestly ruined The Rise of Cobra by being cast as the lead and acting as if he was reading a script. The guy seemed like he was bored or didn't want to be in the movie at all the entire time he was on screen which was like 92% of the movie.

I have nothing against Channing Tatum but the guy couldn't have done a worse job as the lead actor in a legendary franchise. Hopefully he's learned how to show convincing emotion since the last movie.

The DUKE actor is the reason the first movie FAILED. I think he is a shitty actor.

I actually enjoyed the first one, but I'm shocked that this is getting a sequel.
Lose the 2 and the title will be perfect.

@Gusto, I doubt Nichols is in it.She was just promoted to regular castmember on Criminal Minds a few months ago.Criminal minds starts filming it's new season in California starting in July, so it's unlikely she'd be able to also take a role in a film shooting for 4 months in New Orleans the very next month.

@PaulRom, well, the movie made $302 million, so it was bound to get a sequel.

if they get rid of channing tatu, and marlon wayans and got decent actors for their roles g.i. joe wouldve been half decent and i think that title is false unless they replace JGL as cobra cuz they didnt announce his return when they said duke, snake eyes, and stormshadow were the only ones returning

I guess "GI JOE: COBRA STRIKES BACK" is sounding like a certain star wars sequel for them to put out there huh?

..and I agree with Woodinator, an A Team Sequel is worth more than this ass-crackery of a movie if they kept Channing and Marlon acting like wood chips the whole movie.

RexDart: I was about to say the same thing. This is the worst thing to hit here since August of 2005.

The timing for filming this is unusual. August and September are the peak of hurricane season. You would think that someone would be aware of that fact and would delay filming until October, which is usually much less risky for hurricanes, and is also when the weather outside becomes tolerable again.

I liked the Cobra lineup in the first movie, minus Storm Shadow dying, that was lame for such a legendary character. The only three that need to stay for the Joes is Ray Park, Dennis Quaid and Brendan Fraser. I know Brendan can be goofy at times but I think he prooved himself in the movie. Give Duke a facelift that looks something like Matthew Fox.

Overlord: Damn right! G.I. Joe is the code name for AMERICA's daring, highly-trained, Special Mission force. Its purpose: To defend human freedom against Cobra, a ruthless terrorist organization determined to rule the world. What's wrong with doing one film for people who actually LOVE America and are proud to call it home?

Channing Tatum did more "acting" in Dilemma than he did as Duke. That's sad.
