It pains me to report this, it really does. I almost couldn't bring myself to write up the article. But The Wrap reports...

"G.I. Joe" director Stephen Sommers will return to direct Paramount's sequel, an individual familiar with the project has told TheWrap.

There had been some doubts about whether Sommers would be brought back into the "Joe" fold, as there were conflicting reports across the blogosphere last summer that there had been some tension between Sommers and the studio, but the alleged bad blood appears to have been resolved.

Despite being one of the most mind numbingly awful movies to ever defile a cinema, Gi Joe: Rise Of Cobra grossed more than $300 million worldwide last year on a reported production budget of $175 million. It has its fans no doubt, so at least someone will be happy with this news. All we know aside from this is that the script is being penned by Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick and while no major cast members have been confirmed, they are all apparently contractually obliged to return. Maybe in this one Channing Tatum and Marlon Wayans get killed off in the opening credits!..and I mean the actual actors. That I would pay to see. Too hopeful? At lest the chicks are hot I guess.
