Director Martin Campbell said to Empire:

"It's daunting, Just the process, something like 1,300 visual effects shots, it's mind-blowing, quite honestly. A lot of the special effects shots work will concentrate on the Green Lantern's power ring. It's energized by a battery on the planet of Oa, which taps into the willpower of everyone in the universe. From that ring you can form constructs. So if you got into a fight, you could form a giant fist. Or a fighter plane."

LEEE777 - So they are going to put a heck of a lot of special effects and budget on the Green Lantern ring effects. Well that can only be good news for the project as it's got to look believable and amazing to Joe public. It will be tricky indeed. If they pull it off, it may be the biggest thing since "Star Wars." Fingers crossed, i personally have high hope for this movie and still cant believe it's actually going to be made!

Hal Jordan is confirmed to be played by Ryan Reynolds so far and no other casting news as yet.

Release date is June 17th 2011 of next year from Warner Brothers.

Yeah, I think the constructs will be tricky to pull off.It should be cool, though.Spider-Man 3 had about 900, while this has 1300.While I didn't like the film, it did look really good.Let's hope this is a visual masterpiece.

I really hope this movie does well. Campbell has done some pretty decent movies with plenty of action, so he seems like a decent fit. It definitly has huge potential to make Batman status money and hopefully set up a new franchise for DC.

green lantern is one of the only 4 DC characters i actually like, so i REALLY hope this is good. but i don't know how easy it will be to bring this to life. i'm on the fence, i don't know what to think. this could end up being extreme cheese. but i hope not

@wards

so true i would be laughing too if i see a giant picnic basket in the movie. to me the only way this movie could work well if the Green Lantern does not make silly shapes like the giant picnic basket, a car, etc. they need to keep his power simple enough to make sense on film.

i also hope we don't see a giant hand a hundred times too, though.

I would not want to see a boxing glove either but making a freight train construct then hitting someone with it would be awesome. I cant believe this movie is being made Hal Jordan is my favorite comic book character. And the Green Lantern comics are the only comics I read regularly since they brought him back.

I've been really worried about the special effects on this movie. i really just don't see how they are going to do it. hopefully campbell has a better idea then me. seems one of the hardest abilities to put into film.

Lee@ totally agree with the Sinestro casting! Weaving's warped head along with Agent Smith's voice would be perfect for the role.

Campbell's quotes about the lantern and power ring almost sound like someone who only knows what they've been told about the character, not a director who's intimately familiar with the character he's now in control of. I don't know, suddenly I'm a little worried. This isn't James Bond where he can wing it without having to read any of Fleming's books. Hope I'm wrong.

It's going to be a challenge, making the effects look convincing and not too cartoonish, but I know they can pull it off.

Can't wait for this movie.

This movie would be a real dream come true for me. As long as I can remember I've wanted to be the emerald guardian. Hugo Weaving is the obvious choice for Sinestro by the way. I've got my ring on order already. I'll polish it everyday till the movie opens! I sure hope they do it right, the technology is certainly available, no excuses as far as I'm concerned!

Good find LEE!

So this movie will be taking place in space as well? I know nothing about GL and with all of the Marvel stuff I buy I cant afford to start buying the characters comic books anytime soon, lol!

I'll be going to see it obviously but does anyone know of any decent graphic novels I could pick up about the characters origins or whatever?!
InTylerWeTrust
InTylerWeTrust - 10/31/2009, 11:49 AM
Josh: Pick up GL "Secret Origins" by Geoff Johns. It's a great read, and is the perfect way to start your knowledge of the GL universe going.

TYLER @ Your right its gonna be a challenge but its going to be amazing, its gotta be! An i told JOSH to pick up EMERALD DAWN too month ago, he wont budge he's a MARVELITTE!! ; D

JOSH @ Cheers man and what TYLER said, a great read fella check it out!

I can see your point though about DC, a lot of stuff to pick up and read. Do you read any Independants by the way??

BRIAN @ I really hope so, this should be an Epic masterpiece!

TORNADOS @ Kudos! Hey what is that AVATAR of your there? Cant make it out lol?? : /

Lc @ ; )

JoshWilding - 10/31/2009, 12:33 PM
TYLER: Thanks man! I'd at least like to know something about the character before the movie comes out, lol! I was tempted to start buying GL when the movie news started flowing but I left it as there was some new event starting with the character (DC always seems to have one event after the other making it near imposible to just start buying any of their books!) Thanks again for the tip though - I'll definitely check that out!
JoshWilding
JoshWilding - 10/31/2009, 12:38 PM
LEE: LOL! I did actually look for that but I couldnt find it in stock anywhere! I'm glad you reminded me though because I'll look when I next go to a comic book store (there isnt one anywhere near me so I get all my comics through the post!)

To anwer your question though, I very rarely pick up any non-Marvel stuff. I get the odd thing like a 24 tie in comic that came out a little while ago but none of the comic sites I go on really cover any non Marvel/DC stuff so I dont hear about them for the most part! There are a few I've heard of that Im planning on getting sometime soon though! Any recommendations?

Josh: No problem. Secret Origins is great, fills you in on how Hal became Green Lantern, and his training on Oa and first mission with Sinestro. The artwork is great too.

Lee: I have little doubt that the movie will be fantastic. Like I said, it's going to be a challenge, but they certainly can do it, for sure.

Lc @ Been there, its dead as a doe doe???

TYLER @ i have little doubt too man, this is going to be a gem among gems for CBM's, never has anything this big or scale been done, i know they can do it too dude!

JOSH @ Cool, but it really depends on your own tastes, i think best thing to do is get a couple of TRADES an amazing one that changed DC History would be CRISIS!!

But theres so many, i think though MARVEL do tend to make their stuff more easy to collect which is a good thing!

Also JOSH @ KINGDOM COME, JUSTICE, stuff like that!

As for Independents, theres so many, i think GRENDEL is [frick]ing cool, but you've got early SPAWN, DARKNESS, etc etc, too many to think about really, you can see why im behind on my titles, an its mainly MARVEL, i blame this site for taking my spare time away lmao! : D

Nah, i really should crack on and get up to date with everything! If i can think of really good ones i'll let ya know! ; )
