Green Lantern "Is" A Good Movie!

Despite what Critics and Nay-Sayers say...

Review Opinion

Ok so Most of us have seen Green Lantern by now, and Most of us have our own opinions on whether or not we like it. (Truth be told) it really didnt do Bad. True Fans enjoyed it and some New comers did also even tho they didnt really understand everything going on. But what I dont understand is why everyone is letting these dumb ass nay-sayers and crititcs speak for Everyone on what our opinion was on the movie. Almost every review since the movie came out has been Negative according to a couple critics...Who gives a Damn what they think!? Why didnt they ask the Fanbase what they thought of it? I can pretty much garantee they would have got an Entirely different answer and reaction from US than that they did from critics. Theyr opinion should not out weigh the Fans, because theres about a 99% chance that they're those few select people who dont know the story or whats going on

I myself have just came into the Green Lantern universe not too long ago & fell in love with it almost instantly. and even tho I still dont know EVERYTHING about it, I still know just enough to have been excited about the movie and understand where they were going with the movie.

I just went to see it again, and you know what I noticed the second time around? Its NOT just a fun movie, its a Good Superhero movie! When you start really listening and paying close attention to everything going on & putting the pieces together you notice that it is in fact Well put together for what it is...Not to say that it doesnt have its flaws - will get the that in a moment - but still well put together none the less. The main Problem I kept thinking about as I was watching the 2nd time was that - this was being compared to Star Wars and other Sci-Fi movies. THATS THE PROBLEM!!! Green Lantern is NOT Star Wars, its Not Superman, its NOT Batman, its NOT Iron Man, its NOT Spider Man, its NOT X-men, its NOT Watchmen, its nothing we'v seen before. Its GREEN LANTERN!!! Once I really thought about that concept I found myself getting past all those stupid little things critics say hold the movie back from being Good & started to Really Enjoy it for what it is...a Green Lantern movie.

The Good:
The thing I like most about this movie is that they took a gamble & decided to be different - being with the CGI suit and other planet instead of just earth & so forth.
Id say it was a Good choice in Cast. I have to admitt that I was one of those people who werent sure about Ryan Reynolds playing Hal Jordan due to his silly nature, but to my surprise he actually did grow on me an did a Good job at playing Hal Jordan. He was serious when he needed to be and joked only when it was the right time to be the asshole we was suppose to be. Blake did Good as Carol Ferris, plus shes sexy so that won her a point lol. Mark Strong was Very convincing as Sinestro, at times I kind of forgot that-that was a human playing him & that definitely deserves a point. Parallax looked cool - I liked the concept that it was once a Guardian & made out of thousands of beings fear energy and they're flesh, thats really creative.

The Bad:
Like I was saying before once I stopped comparing this movie I found that most of my bad list shrank significantly! However there were still a few things here and there. One being that some scenes I would have liked to see more time in so things could be more developed. Not the entire movie felt rushed, but it definitely felt like it moved at a good pace at times. I would have liked to have seen a more developed way he wore the costume for the 1st time instead of just waking up with it on lol. Another thing being that I dont think they needed Hector Hammond in it, he got kind of annoying at times especially when he screams like a girl lol. I think the movie would have been fine without adding him into it - it would have given them more time to focus on the Main villan Parallax. Speaking of which I would have liked to see a Longer fight between him and Hal at the end, especially when they were flying through space. It would have been cool to see Hal use more Constructs to hurl at him before deciding to throw him into the sun. But again for what it was it Wasnt that bad, was still pretty cool to see.

All in all - Id give & I think Green Lantern deserves 8.5 out 10 (or 4 and a half stars out of 5). Despite what people who know absolutely nothing about and yet still are voicing they're opinions anyway say. Its a Good movie if you take it for what it is, and Very Much worth checking out...If I was to compare it tho - id say its on the same level as Iron Man 1 and Batman Begins. Its an Origin Story, and just like those two films its a little slow at times, but still action packed and enjoyable, leaving room for the Next film to be its Successor. Which I hope will still happen if we the people who's opinions Should matter speak up for it.

To all the Haters and Nay-sayers (critics included) I say a very passionate and very sincere! "Shut The Hell Up & let people enjoy and speak for themselves".

i have been follow green lantern since the casting every day i follow the news and the progress, the only thing bad about it is that only open in 28 jully here in portugal:),i think the movie is good there a few things that they could do better like the movie time and they could have put a litle more complicated history but the CGI took they atencion i understand for god sake the have created a new world the,and the bad critics are not allways bad we can learn about our mistakes and do better,so i know the second film will be a even great movie with better story and action, can you imagine a space battle versus the sinestro corps?and they can do it because we have tasted a litle in the final battle with parallax in space,so have to tell you that you had speaked very well its a god movie and now on can only be better,up up and away

Dude, thats how i feel. the movie was pretty good for what it was. It was even better than what i thought it was going to be. A few parts were out of place, but it was a good movie, and hope there will be a second movie.

Yeah...it was decent. Not great by any means, but that just means that the sequel will kick butt! :)

Let's just pray to the big WB in the sky that the studio lets there be a sequel. One unavoidable problem was the time required to introduce the character and the relatively deep, intricate concepts that make GL THE best story in all of comicdom. As the public knows none of that, that did slow it all down and make the good parts shorter that anyone would have liked.

The mystery really is why there is so much pure hatred in the reviews and comments - not just thumbs down but thumbs attempted to be inserted without use of a lubricant. My only explanation is that the Parallex virus is symbolic of a widespread disease condition that is more rampant that anyone imagined, and it took the story of a hero who stands up to those who would intimidate with fear to bring it out. GL has succeeded in "outing" a lot of haters. Sinestro should have no trouble finding new recruits for his Corps.

Now let's see what the target audience (i.e. kids) who haven't read any of this hateful crap have to say with their dollars the next few weeks before Harry Potter sweeps everyone away. Here's hoping Green Lantern earns enugh green to get a 2nd chance.

"To all the Haters and Nay-sayers (critics included) I say a very passionate and very sincere! 'Shut The Hell Up & let people enjoy and speak for themselves'."

I commend you for sticking to how you feel about the movie and going againt what seems like the masses, but aren't you contradicting yourself? Everyone who doesn't like this movie should have just as much of a right to "speak for themselves" as people like you who enjoyed it. There are mny fans, like myself, who didn't enjoy the movie.

I agree with most of what you said, but comparing it to IM1 and Batman Begins is a stretch, in my eyes. Yes, they are all 'origin' stories, but that's about where the comparisons end....

@BIGBMH that's the problem with denial. If these same "Haters and Nay-sayers" were saying the complete opposite the DC diehards wouldn't have a problem. On the contrary they would be praised and adored instead of vilified. Expect the same vocal minority to troll every new Cap article cause it makes them feel better. It's already happening ;)

THANK YOU! I am so sick of hearing everyone join the bandwagon of crapping on this movie. When I saw it on Friday night about 20 minutes into it I realized I was smiling and having a great time watching it. Then I started to realize that all the critics are either expecting something that would win an Oscar nod or wanting it to be dark and brooding because that's what makes these characters so interesting to the outsider's view. It was a FUN movie. It was like if someone put The Rocketeer, The Last Starfighter and a bit of Star Wars and blended them all together. Sorry for those of you who don't, but I was raised on and love those movies. Seriously until Snyder can get his Man of Steel movie out, DC's best shot is Batman. Unfortunately that franchise has turned into the Godfather of comic book movies. They are good, well structured, interesting movies, but there isn't a lot of fun to them. Singer's concept for Superman attempted to add the emo/drama angle to a character that doesn't have that built into him. I'm sorry but Superman Returns was not a Superman movie. At least with Green Lantern WB got it right where it felt like a Green Lantern adaption from the comics plus it didn't rely on angst and drama to try and make the audience get sucked into the movie. I do agree that you shouldn't compare Green Lantern to Batman Begins, but you can definitely compare it to Spider-Man. Both knew they are comic book movies and didn't shy away from it. They embraced it and I loved them both for it.

@glfan...I really think there was so much hate because of the level of anticipation and potential for this movie. it was voted as the most anticipated film at the scream awards last year and it disappointed...it was rushed, disjointed and not anywhere near the epic scale that it deserved

@ BIGBMH - Thank you...N yea, I may be contradicting myself a little on that part. N your right, everyones entitled to their opinion. But I dont get why people have to go out of their way to trash something someone else may have fully enjoyed & I really dont understand why (for whatever reason) their opinions seem to get heard more than the people who liked it. Some people wait a long time for even a chance of something like this - (something fresh and new). N that all seems to get taken away every time someone feels the need to trash what they themselves dont like or understand.

Same thing to you @ Colso - Giving your opinion is one thing. But trying to take away from is another.

@ SentinelofLiberty, nailbiter111, & EasterBunnyKiller - Lol as I was saying in the Article I wouldnt compare it to anything other than what it is. I was just saying those 2 films are the closest example of how it should be taken (as a whole). Its a beginning.

@ Octoberson - Right, I couldnt have said it better. They stayed true to what it was & we finally got something Fresh and New. I for one count it as a Victory...minor flaws and all.

I completely agree. It wasn't amazingly great but it wasn't as awful as everyone was making it out to be. I'm a huge green lantern fan and I was able to really enjoy this movie. I will say I saw it twice and I wasn't a happy after the first time but the second time it was like something just clicked. Definitely could have been way better but I can only hope that they allow a sequel.

agreed....there was a ton wrong with this movie...the biggest of which was character development...but dammit i had a hell of a good time watching the movie...too bad it will lose money and the likely-hood of a sequel seems pretty slim.

Great review. It's good that in the face of disapproval people are still having the balls to have their own opinion on the movie and not be dragged into joining angrowing majority. That is what personal opinion is for.

@ Teabag - Thank you for your rant lol. N im not looking for credit, im simply doing what your doing (voicing my opinion)...N I'll say it (once again) I dont mind other people giving their opinions, its a free country you can say what you want (Good or Bad). But that doesnt mean you need to try to take away from what someone else wants because "you" may not want/like it.

@ supersayianfan1 - You can shut the hell up just because you annoy me with the way you talk lol. N im 21, with that said I think id know when I see a good movie or not. You seem to be the fool, because You Dont seem to realize that (even in here, in this very comment section) the movie Isnt crap to everyone despite what you say or think. A good amount of people Did in fact enjoy it. You strike me as the kind of close minded idiot im refering to in the article. Sure your free to voice your opinion on whethere or not you liked it, but quite frankly, Nobody cares wethere or not you liked it, nobody wants to hear if you didnt like it. If dont like it, fine, but...shut the hell up when around people who did & waited for this! B)

Rant over lol

Why are you still here? Im not keeping you here & once again nobody cares about what you have to say so get your dumb ass off my comments about something you "supposedly" dont care anything about in the 1st place, [frick]n idiot. Nothings personal - this is strictly my opinion oriented. Your the only one who seems to be taking it personal. Thats why "you" need to keep "yourself" in school cause you sound like you have no common sense to begin with. Get off my comments.

@ teabag - no, how would that be considered the same thing? I just said their opinions shouldnt matter (as much) not they shouldnt be critics. they on the other hand say they dont like it & try to destroy it (along with any future projects), very different.

SpiderFan35 - 6/22/2011, 11:25 AM
I think people are more sensitive because this was GL's big break into a CBM, so fans were hoping for their dream movie whatever that may be. It's not so bad when the 10th Batman movie disappoints cause we just wait for number 11, lol.

I think the villain(s) were crappy and it was CGI overload but I didn't hate it. It will probably tie for third this summer with Thor for me. I liked X-men and I have high hopes for Captain America. I'm just happy that the CBM explosion is happening in my lifetime and that at least some of them are awesome.

Green Lantern is a good movie it's not Batman Begins good but a good start to a franchise and besides critics suck thats why they make alot of money for not knowing the material they don't know jack shit about comicbook characters and could care less. When Shakespeear said kill all the lawyers he hadn't met a movie critic.

kid, this is what made me think you were saying it's on a par with IM1 and Begins:

"If I was to compare it tho - id say its on the same level as Iron Man 1 and Batman Begins."

My bad if I misinterpreted that. Either way, I do think you put together a pretty good review, and I agree with you on most of it. I don't think GL was great, but I was entertained for most of the movie, even if I wish they had done some things differently. Big ups to you for your passion on the subject too.

I think that Green Lantern is going in the right direction for DC because this might get them started with the other characters which could lead up to a Justice League film. I thought this movie was good and deserves a sequel.
