The budget for DC Comics and Warner Bros Green Lantern is to believed to be on the high end of the $150 - $200 million range for this space opera!
Reynolds, Cooper and Timberlake yesterday were all up for the Hal Jordan (Green Lantern) role and were the best options, but it would seem Ryan Reynolds beat them both to the green glowing Lantern!
Timberlake seemed the long shot out of the three but movie audiences have not embraced him--if at all, so it was probably down to Ryan Reynolds and Bradley Cooper, both you would think much more suited for the Guy Gardner role?
Anyway the film is scheduled to begin production in January under director Martin Campbell.
Two big questions arise out of all this like, how did this happen and what becomes of Deadpool? The 2nd question is apparently easier to answer, nothing happens. The Wolverine spin-off will proceed as planned at Fox! Did Fox want Deadpool for their own little franchise like Wolverine?
It's very doubtful Reynolds will or could or would juggle two superhero roles for several years for both franchises? So is Deadpool a one off movie and not a three picture deal for Reynolds and if it made big box office maybe then Fox would turn Deadpool into a franchise? Will Fox even drop Reynolds after this, after all if like they say are going for the true Deadpool scars an all, it could happen?
News is Green Lantern is a huge part of the Dc Universe movie plan for going forward and turning it into a huge franchise like Batman and Superman. So it looks like Reynolds now has his franchise. Maybe not the DC one that everyone wants him to take but his franchise nonetheless!
This is reported at get the Big Picture of how it all happened = Warner Brothers had options on all the actors in question, and each option expired in the past week or so, meaning they were free to take other roles during the allotted production window. Reynolds was the only actor who had his option renewed, perhaps because he's already attracting a lot more roles than he could have before playing Deadpool and doing The Proposal. So it was one of those situations where the studio kind of had to jump on their guy to avoid him getting away.
Problem is, is it the right franchise? It seems to me it all was a bit rushed? Well I think most of you know what I think lol, but what do you guys think here at CBM, Green Lantern or Flash?
