Is Jackie Earle Haley In Green Lantern After All?

The Watchman actor debunked the rumor last year, but new information has surfaced that suggests he is the only one Warner Brothers wants to play the role of Sinestro.

According to Drew McWeeny from HitFlix, the old rumor that Jackie Earle Haley was in the running to play the character of Sinestro in Martin Campbell's space adventure Green Lantern might have some merit.

From earlier reports, we know that Hector Hammond is a shoe-in as one of the villains in Green Lantern. There was also talk of Legion being the main villain (still unconfirmed). So where would that leave Sinestro? It's a pretty surefire bet that the character will appear in the film since he is tied so closely to the Lantern mythology. The big questions now are: How big a role will he play in the movie, and who the heck are they going to cast to fill that big, pink noggin?

Back in October, when the rumor first surfaced, Haley was asked if he would confirm it's authenticity. He told a journalist at Collider.com that he had not screen tested for the role.

HitFlix now reports that after a few calls to industry sources they found Haley isn't just in the running, he is Warner Brothers' only choice for to play Sinestro.

We all know that sources, either named or unnamed, are only reliable when the information they release proves viable. Until proven otherwise, though, I think it's safe to assume that the studio is seriously considering Haley take the role; especially since they have built a good relationship together with Watchmen and Nightmare on Elm Street.

I dont think there is another actor in hollywood that would work for the role. I think Vincent Price would have been the best sinestro offcourse that would have had to be 50 years ago, but thats just like I think Clint Eastwood would have been a bad ass Logan, hey he could play old man logan? what do you guys think

MMm, I dunno..technically and talent wise he's a great fit, but isn't he a bit on the small side?

Hugo Weaving would have been the best choice but I'm happy with this choice too.

I think it's a great fit. And as far as the over exposure goes, for me it's not an issue with him because the is playing such different characters. If you have the chops, the character will shine through, not the actor. Think Gary Oldman. Would you believe that True Romance's Drexel Spivey would also be the man portraying Jim Gordon? If it was some wooden putz who just plays himself over and over again (eat my shit Keanu) then that would be another story.

I think it´d be great for Haley so he won´t get typecasted like Robert Englund after the first Freddy movie... i mean sure he´s got other flicks under his belt, like the aforementiones Watchmen, but look at what happened to Leonard Nimoy. He´s still Spock to this very day

Green Lantern would HIGHLY benefit from having Hayley as Sinestro even IF my first choice was Hugo Weaving and second was Jason Isaacs. I would definitely rejoice to hear the confirmation!

I've got no problem with Haley as Sinestro, though I think Hugo Weaving would be my first choice. I'm more concerned that they want to make someone else the main villain, if I'm reading this right. There is enough of an interesting dichotomy between GL and Sinestro that he should be the primary villain in the first film. Go with what people know, and bring in other villains from their rogue's galleries later.

You've got a point there Poni

I guess we'll just have to wait and see. My hope if he gets the role would be that the make-up required and his acting ability will complete the transformation. He knocked it out of the park as Rorschach. If he gives a similar effort as Sinestro, I think we will all be pleased with the outcome. But I understand where you are coming from, which is why I'm more concerned with Reynolds than Haley at this point.

SHAMAN @ You should've done a drawing dude!!!

PICS just ain't the same!! : P

Damn, more bad news, okay its not really but ain't he a bit too short, and he already is a DC character in the new HUMAN TARGET TV series, plus another DC in WATCHMEN???

Still HAYLEY may be pretty good, time will tell!

But if not WEAVING, ISAACS would've been really great too!

What are you talking about no rogues gallery? You have Sinestro, Black Hand, Sonar, Star Sapphire, Hector Hammond, Doctor Polaris, Evil Star, Goldface, The Controllers, Manhunters, Weaponers of Qward.
You also have Alan Scott villains that you could use with Hal Jordan like Vandal Savage, Solomon Grundy, Sportsmaster, The Icicle.

Oh and to answer the question about height he's suppose to be 6'7" but I'm sure at least a foot of that is his forehead.

I think Weaving would have been great. But I think Haley is an excellent alternative to high-priced talent like Weaving. It seems to me they are saving their money for FX above costly names.

Cook, Don't forget Despero and Cyborg Superman! Yeah, MPP! GL has a healthy dose of baddies that stretches over 35 years! WTH?!?! Now, don't go calling me a c**t or anything! LOL

I luv Weaving for the way he manifests rage and that good ol obsessive resentment - but eversince i watched the Superfriends cartoon way back when, i remember Sinestro having that super skinny light bulb shaped knoggin - plus he has that pissy calculating look- ala General Zod - which makes him a good fit

Jason Isaacs really is the perfect Sinestro, but I wouldn't get in an uproar if Haley was cast. He's an amazing actor, but his physical figure really stands out to me. Sinestro is a tall mother-f*cker, Haley's, well, the opposite.

And, to throw another suggestion out there, what about Mads Mikkelsen?

MULTI @ No i ain't got back to that article yet, ive been out the last few hours man, i left you a group hug back there i think lol.

Hey ackles needs trashing, an hey im just a bit bitter when it comes to cbm's because more than half recently have turned to sh1t, yes including SPIDEY 3, all i see with the success of TWILIGHT and NEW MOON an POTTER is more sh1t cbm's!

Everyone wants to go back to the begining to teeny boppers days???? including FIRST CLASS, now if it was with the original 5 X-MEN im all for it, coz it was never touched on, but we all know its gonna be that 90210 lot from the spin off of WOLVERINE!!

As for SPIDER-MAN, its been done, he's done high school, don't think most can deal with more MJ love sh1t and HARRY OSBORN again, i just cant see it, if they have to reboot it, reboot but as a sequel, ignore most of SPIDEY 3 and we have a great movie, (just saying) and then why not have a complete reboot once SPIDEY is at home again, at MARVEL, not SONY.

Its not just SPIDEY dude, but when this happens it will green light every cbm that messes up to make another one a couple of years later! Do we really want 3 or 4 reboots of the same comic book character??!

As soon as MARVEL get SPIDEY back they will want to reboot it yet again, to make it their own! I dunno maybe its just me.

I just hope to god we don't have to go through all that GREEN GOBLIN stuff again and they use new villains, anyway time will tell.

P.S. Cant wait for GREEN LANTERN!!!

P.P.S. BOSTON eh, sounds a nice place lol.

LEEE- Well... since i only sketch with lead pencils, Sinestro wouldn't be very recognisable. It would just look like a protrait of the actor as himself. I don't do colors :( If only he had a recognisable tiara or something :P

HA!!! Good one, bill ;P
