According to Drew McWeeny from
HitFlix, the old rumor that Jackie Earle Haley was in the running to play the character of Sinestro in Martin Campbell's space adventure
Green Lantern might have some merit.
From earlier reports, we know that Hector Hammond is a shoe-in as one of the villains in
Green Lantern. There was also talk of Legion being the main villain (still unconfirmed). So where would that leave Sinestro? It's a pretty surefire bet that the character will appear in the film since he is tied so closely to the Lantern mythology. The big questions now are: How big a role will he play in the movie, and who the heck are they going to cast to fill that big, pink noggin?
Back in October, when the rumor first surfaced, Haley was asked if he would confirm it's authenticity. He told a journalist at Collider.com that he had not screen tested for the role.
HitFlix now reports that after a few calls to industry sources they found Haley isn't just in the running, he is Warner Brothers' only choice for to play Sinestro.
We all know that sources, either named or unnamed, are only reliable when the information they release proves viable. Until proven otherwise, though, I think it's safe to assume that the studio is seriously considering Haley take the role; especially since they have built a good relationship together with
Watchmen and
Nightmare on Elm Street.
