After being announced as the 2011 CinemaCon "Male Star of the Year", Variety caught up with the actor and he had this to say about the significance of the special effects crew in Green Lantern.



"On a movie that's coming out on a size and scale like this, you realize how insignificant the actor is. I'm an important cog in a very large machine."

"I was on a greenscreen stage with a hundred other crew members, and it's those people whose efforts created what will later be known as the film."


With an all star cast which includes Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, Blake Lively as Carol Ferris and Mark Strong as Sinestro, director Martin Campbell's Green Lantern is set to be released in 3D on June 17, later this year!

no trailer in front of sucker punch,dc fails to deliver again.

the cgi better be out of this world because it wasn't in the first trailer.

well its good to FINALLY hear from this dude. Now bring on the second trailer and this time reynolds should actually take his pants off for it. I was dissapointed when the scene cut I was like "WAIT! Go back let us fangirls see him take his pants off for our enjoyment". Basicly the second trailer better rock my world

I would say make the cgi on the eye-mask better. But 90% of the film he will have the suit on but not the mask judging by the trailer.

Lack of footage makes me think that they are not happy with the end product.

Or the can't get the FX to look the way they want it to.

Either way I think the stink bomb is gonna drop with this one.

Damn shame, I grew up a DC kid and their lack of silver screen contributions have turned me to Marvel.

I am not surprised it has taken a while to see footage since his entire costume is CGI and usually that stuff is done towards the end of the film. I did not think it looked bad in the trailer if people are complaining it looked fake then that is because it is CGI and the mind knows it is not real.

WB never said there would be a second green lantern trailer before sucker punch... It was the same website that reported the Cap trailer was coming out a month ago, every week, for three weeks in a row.

Have you ever stopped to think, "hey, GL is almost entirely in CGI so it's going to take a lot longer than Cap to have a fully finished trailer"?

The first GL came out in November, almost 5 months ago! Cap just got it's first trailer 2 days ago... Come on dude give it a rest

@Alreg, Not to shut down your point or anything, but I'm pretty sure that anyone who saw Reynolds wearing the CGI suit could figure out that it's fake whether they knew it was CGI beforehand or not...

@ckirk8 It's not that I think that people thought it was real but I think they it's a matter of it not looking right to them since it mixes on screen with a real actor it's different than a full CGI character and seeing real eyes and a face with a CGI body is what caused people's problems.

The rest of the interview is kinda funny:
"If you asked me 15 years ago if I could be living the life I am living I would say 'Go [frick] yourself with a rusty bicycle pump.' Look, I'm in the 99 percentile in terms of I'm a working actor and that's always been the goal. It's not something I'm totally in charge of. I'm just thrilled I get to work in a way that it's a privilege."
I just dig the man. He is cool, funny and a decent actor, and humbled.

About the "insignificant comment" - Everyone knows exactly what he meant by that. Green Lantern will be amazing! And when that trailer finally comes out it will such a feeling! People are reading too much into anything that doesn't mean anything.

alot of the users on here have stated that the trailer was gonna be on the front of sucker punch,so we were told to stop asking for the second trailer.

its coming with sucker punch...........my arse.

i love the green lantern comic,but all this lack of promotion is making me lose intrest in the film.

give us a new trailer within the next week or so or personally i'm not even gonna bother with the film.

@LEEE777 GL is more like the Star Trek or Battlestar Galactica of CBM's. A Silver Surfer movie with a real Galactus and Thanos is more like Star Wars IMO!

I'm sure most of this will look fine despite the last trailer. That's been like 5 months ago at this point. The FX work should be 100 times better now, but they need a trailer soon (especially after a nice Cap trailer, awesome Thor trailer and even a good X-Men trailer). I wonder if they're waiting to premiere it with Thor? I can't imagine that Arthur (the next big WB movie) is what they'll tie it to. And why latch on to Thor when we know Cap and probably TF3 will be attached too? I don't get what WB is doing. They're getting overshadowed by Pirates and even Cars 2 outside of comics sites.

I have my doubts about the movie, but I still think it probably will be good. WB seems to be trying hard to not show us stuff. I would assume there'll be TV spots during the NBA and NHL playoffs next month, but who knows with WB. Thor is already getting TV spots and toys on store shelves. I've even seen Cap masks & stuff. GL has nada!

I love how Marvel fanboys are saying GL is failing to deliver anything when we didnt have hardly anything of Captian until a couple days ago. At least GL has had a trailer out (even though it recieved mixed reviews) for the past few months which is definatly more than Cap can say.

Hey, if they think the CGI doesn't look right, and they're doing the best to get it right, why are you complaining? Wouldn't you rather they try to get it as best as they can they just be like "ah, this is good enough, I guess..." Get what I mean? If they aren't satisfied that's not necessarily a bad thing, people.

No Freakin Trailer in front of SUcker PUnch! which was totally awesome btw, THIS SUCKS!!! BOOO!!!!!

I already know without a shout of a doubt im going to support this film. But just for fans sake i wish they would give the new trailer already.

This is the first time in a long time hearing anything about this movie! and its getting close n closer to realease! WB better start adveretising, with heavy hitters like Thor, Transformers, Cap, Super 8 etc. coming out GL better get some kinda attention!

Yeah, the GL trailer with Sucker Punch is the existing trailer. The THOR trailer is the first official one after the leaked trailer, but not the new more awesome one. And the Cap trailer is the one made up of clips you've seen before that came out recently.

I like space fantasies and superhero movies, so I'm hoping GL is good. But I really don't know. The trailer, like Caps trailer, doesn't establish a clear enemy threat. That's important.
