Ryan Reynolds Talks Green Lantern And Deadpool...Sort of!

While on Jimmy Fallon's talk show, Mr Johannson spoke a little about both of his upcoming CBM's...

Ok, so this will be another one of those "not really news" articles. But I just thought it was interesting to find out what Reynolds thought about his dual Super Hero roles.

Of course, that secrecy deal has RR unable or unwilling to spill any juicy stuff just yet, but he did confirm that..

"I'm 4-5 months away from beginning shooting," Reynolds told Fallon..

"It's crazy, it's the only job I've ever had that I'm not allowed to really talk about. I think there's like a representative from Warner Brothers who I'm sure is following me around ready to blow-dart me if I say a single word," said Reynolds, "I probably have a chip in me somewhere, like if I start talking about it, I'll just pass away."

"A lot of [the film] is sort of like a space epic and some of it is on planet Earth," said Reynolds, "[Green Lantern] has this ring and he's been chosen to have this power and the ring can kind of create anything that his will or his imagination can conjure up."

Though Reynolds didn't have any new details about the upcoming Deadpool spin-off, he did confirm he'd reprise his Wade Wilson role from Wolverine

"At his point [playing both roles] makes you just like an internet hero, nothing really more than that," joked Reynolds.

Hmmmm, well a hero to some, not to all! Many people think he's not the greatest choice for GL, but I say, let's see what ya got you jammy bastard:)

Thanks to MTV for the info.

I hope Green Lantern is as good as First Flight. The way he describes it, it'll probably end up being the same story.

I love how he makes fun of his "no talk" situation.

I've been waiting for a good space epic for a while, really exciting news!

Do they even have a full cast for green lantern yet? I'm starting to think that Ryan will play every character by himself.

I was wondering when somebody would post this. It was kind of nice to see him confirm that everything's on track. We've all seen and heard a few rumors about production being shifted or possibly delayed. I'm guessing that within the next few weeks they'll confirm the shooting location and place ads for casting calls that one of us can pick up.

-Why all the hate for Reynolds? I don't get it. He's a fine actor, and he's certainly payed his dues to make his way to a top film franchise. They cast a guy with a cocky attitude that actually looks like Hal Jordan. What else do you want? At least they're making the damn thing...Be happy.

InTylerWeTrust - 10/2/2009, 3:57 PM
I agree Velox. Reynolds is a great actor. He can do the cocky attitude of Hal, and also the strong, serious side. He'll be a great Hal.

Plus, do you think Martin Campbell would let Reynolds do the comedy thing? I don't...

I hope this will work. GL is one of my favs from the DC universe. This has so much potential that it could be the Action film of the year (Which year, who knows?). Just don't f@#$ it up!
Velox
Velox - 10/2/2009, 4:16 PM
Tyler: Depends on what you mean by 'comedy', I guess. James Bond isn't above cracking a few jokes, and Mask of Zorro had quite a few lighter moments. Campbell doesn't have any comedies that I know of to his credits, so it's really doubtful he would make a 'knee-slapping' turn for a project like Green Lantern. I actually hope they give Jordan a wry, sarcastic wit. He's supposed to be a 'Top Gun' kind of guy, and we've sort of come to expect that from those characters; from Cruise as Maverick, to Chris Evans as Human Torch. Actually, now that I think about it, that's a good example of what should maybe be done; The Human Torch in the comics is like an irresponsible kid, and not as much of a smart-ass, but they took the character there with Evans because that's his strength. That's Reynold's strength too, so maybe we'll see it.

Velox - 10/2/2009, 4:19 PM
Yep - You know he's sweating it. If an accomplished guy like Downey was worried about IM, then Reynolds has three or four times the pressure on him, plus TWO franchises hanging in the balance. Better deliver the goods, pal! LOL
InTylerWeTrust
InTylerWeTrust - 10/2/2009, 4:19 PM
Velox: Campbell can do comedic stuff, I agree. I was mainly saying he wouldn't do all the stuff Reynolds usually does in his movies, like cracking a joke every 5 seconds.

I'd like to see some humor from Hal as well, but I don't want a comedic character, and I doubt we'll get that.
Velox
Velox - 10/2/2009, 4:22 PM
In that case, no, I don't think Campbell will let him get away with a bunch of on-screen antics. He runs a pretty tight ship, and that would demean the character by making him too one-dimensional.

Even if he does fkem both up, he can always go home and motorboat himself to sleep in his wife's massive titties.
Velox
Velox - 10/2/2009, 4:28 PM
True Billy! HA! I'm only gonna feel just so sorry for the guy. Plus, I guess depending on how you look at it, he's got a 50/50 shot at having at least ONE franchise to keep him employed for a decade or so...

slimybug - 10/2/2009, 4:32 PM
So they start shooting in 3-5 months. That's something I didn't know. Of course this is news!
Batmanknight

He was definetly a great choice for Deadpool. and if they did it right he would make it amazing.

But i think he went a little too far becoming Green Lantern as well. Give someone else a chance.

But he was able to beat out all the other actors for the role. So he cant be that bad.
Velox
Velox - 10/2/2009, 4:42 PM
Seems he was ripe for the picking for these kinds of roles. Not too high profile, but with just enough name recognition to be a draw, and he doesn't cost them 20 million dollars. Not yet, anyways. :D

I just hope Reynolds doesn't ham it up or make this too campy.

Ryan is going to nail both of these movies perfectly.
Velox
Velox - 10/2/2009, 4:57 PM
Absoultely, Poni! I'm not sure the guy has the depth to pull off roles like 'Michael Clayton', or 'Benjamin Button' but it will be nice to see him get a shot at it. I've been sort of absent-mindedly following his career since he was on television 10 or 12 years ago, because I thought he had a lot of potential even back then. I love a success story.

Even if I am envious of his money, his fame, and his well-endowed wife...
Velox
Velox - 10/2/2009, 5:19 PM
Absolutely! What the hell ever happened to the other 'guy', though? I've seen Traylor Howard on The West Wing and Monk, and Nathan Fillion has done Firefly and Castle, (Which is really great, BTW. Reminds me of the old Moonlighting series from the eighties.) But that other dude just vanished!
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 10/2/2009, 5:33 PM
To be honest i used to [frick]ing hate RR! I never thought his "comedies" were funny in the slightest and found his high pitched voice to be like nails on a black board..but then i saw Amityville Horror, Smokin Aces and The Nines. Not all great movies, but great dramatic performances from Reynolds.
Velox
Velox - 10/2/2009, 5:40 PM
He does have a high pitched voice, doesn't he? I just always thought he had a speaking cadence and comic timing that was reminiscent of Jim Carrey, and that he had potential as a film star. I don't know, he makes me laugh...and he looks like Green Lantern to me.

BTW - My favorite thing about Smokin' Aces is John McGinley. That guy is priceless, and we need to think of a role for him in a CBM.

I have no problem with this as long as he's got his DEADPOOL "scars" and mask on when he's playing that character.

If, however they wanna use his face for more than 1/2 of the Deadpool movie, i know i'm gonna get pissed thinkin of him as GL.
