Ryan Reynolds was 'Beaten Up' On Green Lantern Set

Ryan Reynolds says working with Martin Campbell was tougher than his gym sessions to get in shape for the 'Green Lantern' because the director would ''beat him up''.

Ryan Reynolds was "beaten up" by 'Green Lantern' director Martin Campbell.

The 34-year-old actor says he had to get in shape for the movie and claims Martin's direction was more intense than the actual training itself.

He explained: "I had to wear that suit, so I put in my required time in the gym. But I'm not one of those actors who romanticises his trials working out and brags that he can bench press a panda now."

"Martin Campbell was more dangerous than the training. He pushes you so hard on the set that he beats you up. I came away with a separated shoulder and a torn abdominal muscle."

To play Hal, Ryan had to understand what it meant to put himself in danger and says he gained inspiration from family members who are police officers and real-life pilots.

He said: "I come from a family of cops, and all of them share that understanding that they put their lives on the line. They share and deal with that sense of risk every day, so I got to see that up close."

"I also spent time with actual military pilots at an Air Force base to get a sense of who they are and what they do."

That title is very misleading you know, along with the caption photo.
You really did make it look like he was beaten up.

@PatrickBateman47, Actually the FACT is you, teabag, and all the other haters can hate 24/7 and that won't detract from the movie. Regardless of whether the general public picks up on it or not, this character has the most epic potential for a CBM ever. There is so much history and deep plot potential. Not to mention SFX that could potentially make Revenge of the Sith look like Flash Gordon in comparison. I admit, as a fan of GL since age 7, I'm biased, but I also bought Thor, Cap, Iron Man, and Superman comics. I just think GL could translate the best to film. Thor, Cap, and The Avengers all have just as much potential to fail as GL. But like I said, NONE of our opinions matter, only the millions of people who decide whether or not to spend their hard earned money to see these. Hopefully the FEW haters out there will be far from the theater when GL hits--save your money for the "non hideous" movies ;p

BTW, Downey Jr. is the only modern CBM actor who can hold a CANDLE to Reynold's skills. Norton and Bale are both great actors too, but they don't really fit the parts (Bale's "Batman" voice mainly).

@bateman,
Considering these films haven't even been released yet, I'd like to know where you brought your crystal ball that lets you see into the future and determine that these movies have failed. I could really use one for playing Lotto Max.
