Ryan Reynolds Will Be Green Lantern!

Ryan Reynolds Will Be Green Lantern!

Variety.com is reporting that the wise cracking Reynolds has landed the coveted and highly anticipated role of Hal Jordon, also known as Green Lantern.

The big budget space epic will be directed by Martin Campbell and is expected to begin production in January, which means that Fox's Deadpool movie will probably be on hold--IF its still going to star Reynolds.

According to sources Warners and Campbell chose Reynolds, over Bradley Cooper (The Hangover) and Jared Leto (Requiem for a Dream). The momentum built for Reynolds in the last week, as he was the only actor whose option was extended.

Writers: Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green.
Producers: Donald DeLine with Berlanti.

I personally am a huge Reynolds fan but would never have cast him in this role.

Well that was unexpected... but hey... it's better than JT or Bradley Cooper.

Superdog@ No they didn't listen... sorry pooch

Better than JT no doubt! But i just hope he tones down the wise assness. Hal Jordan is quite a stoic character. Or at least he was before they CAST RYAN [frick]ING REYNOLDS TO PLAY HIM...ahem, sorry!

Ryan is a good actor even in a non comedic role but I don't see him as GL. Deadpool is fit for him. Or even Wally West. anyone else think so? I dunno...

It's okay Ror... Your frustration is understood... I'm barely containing my calm demeanor myself.

I'm thinking 'BS' people! Let's face it, this wouldn't be the first time a 'news' source jumped the gun and 'reported' something that wasn't necessarily so...

You know, I was literally leaving another site that said "Reynolds, Timberlake and Cooper are the three finalists for Green Lantern." Personally, I think that this Cooper guy was the better choice, but think of it this way: At least we didn't get Justin Timberlake!

The only saving grace i can think of is his performances in Smoking Aces and Amytiville Horror. Both not great movies but he toned down the "Reynoldsness" for both of them and gave very good dramatic performances. But he just has that smarmy voice...i dunno, we have to remain optimistic here! and keep repeating, At least it wasn't JT!

Pooch im sure Deadpool will be taking a loooong back seat now.

Ror@ I agree. Marvel can't be happy. Also smoking aces was a great movie. And I agree that was his most non smart ass performance to date and I thought he was great

Um, scary thought but who's to say they're going the Hal Jordan route?

Wow, are people turning on Reynolds? Look, I don't particularly enjoy the guy's resume but I think this is a brilliant choice. Fans of the comic-book understand that Hal Jordan is a cocky guy. I guarantee Ryan Reynolds pulls it off and if done right, Green Lantern rocks the movie theaters! Better than Bradley Cooper and Justin Timberlake. Count your blessings its neither of them instead of hating on Reynolds.

Logan I just read the article on Variety and it says that the studio and the director chose Reynolds.

InstgatorGIRL - It says, "...according to SOURCES..." Until I hear it DIRECTLY FORM THE HORSE'S MOUTH, it ain't a done deal!

I say again, who says they're going Hal Jordan? Think about it, Hal isn't the only one to ever guard this sector...

OK I posted this as well on AFI but I thought I'd leave my 2 cents here as well.
I believe he will do fine in this film. Would he have been better as Wally West, Yes. Has most of his roles been more sarcastic type characters, Yes. Do I think there are better actors for the part, Yes. But having said that, he has shown he can do serious roles. Like Will Hayes mild mannered Democrat in Definitely Maybe. Playing Richard Messner the straight laced FBI agent in Smokin' Aces. Or the the intensity he portrayed as George Lutz in the remake of The Amityville Horror. So before there is all the backlash give the guy a chance. We maybe surprised.

We'll have to wait and see. I remember all the post on here bitching and screaming about ledger when he was picked. Now he's a god in here. (rightfully so). If this is true (I believe it is) were stuck with it so let's wait and see. Maybe we will be surprised again

I was really liking Smokin Aces right up until the halfway point when it imploded on itself.

That's true too Logan, it doesn't say anything about him being Jordan! Although i can't see them casting a secondary character before the lead...They do that with the villain though...Sinestro? talk about clutching at straws!

Nobodies "hating" on Reynolds the truth, but you know damn well that there were shit loads of actors out there better suited to play Hal Jordan.

loganoneil - 7/10/2009, 8:29 PM
Don't get me wrong, I like Reynolds. I just have a healthy dose of scepticism (that's been proven right in the past). Until I hear it directly from the studio, it's still 'rumor' in my book. And you're right, ANYTHING (almost) is better than the thought of Timberlake wearing the ring (although I WAS/AM pulling for Nathan Fillion...)

No way he's HAL JORDAN!

Why do ppl believe sources??

If the script is good..and by good i mean if it holds true to the character, i have no doubt that Reynolds will pull it off. What worries me most about his casting is that they may very well alter the character to better suit his usual shtick. So we get a Hal that's more like a Flash!
Xandera
Xandera - 7/10/2009, 8:34 PM
I don't think any of us hate Ryan Reynolds... He's just not Hal Jordan... When I think Reynolds I now think Deadpool... I'm just worried now that when this does come out and I see him in the Green Lantern outfit... I'm just gonna think... "Oh look, Deadpool in a Green Lantern outfit" ... Sheesh
