Still "Pine"ing Away for Green Lantern Casting News

There are conflicting reports about Captain Kirk replacement, Chris Pine, being offered the role of Green Lantern. The rumor may be just that--an unfounded rumor.

This from ReelzChannel...

Last week, IESB reported that Star Trek actor Chris Pine, Captain Kirk 2.0, is on a short list of candidates for the role of Green Lantern. LatinoReview confirmed the rumor, calling it "LEGIT" but with Pine neither accepting or declining the role.

Meanwhile, Collider disagrees, saying that their source told them no offer is out to Pine for the Green Lantern role and that their source "would know."

Well, if it's not Pine, then who is it going to be? So far, the studio's top choices Ryan Gosling and Sam Worthington are either not interested or too busy, and the Anton Yelchin casting rumor was ironically debunked by Collider and Yelchin himself. Who do you think should be cast?

I've posted this before but what the heck!

I don't know that much about Green Lantern but I do know Pine looks too young. I've done some scouting and looked through my DVD collection to try and find an actor to play Hal Jordan and I've come up with Sean Patrick Flanery. I've only seen him in Boondock Saints and Suicide Kings but they are two awesome films and he's solid in both. I wish I could get a pic posted on here but the best I can do is these links;

I think he has a good look and the talent to pull it off, not sure how tall he is though but that shouldn't matter in this day of fx.

Oh, and if you've not seen the two films mentioned get them! You won't be disappointed!

You know, Sean Patrick Flannery might be the one....

He is a very good actor, and looks like a cool enough guy to pull off the ego of Hal Jordan without being too much of a douche.

I totally agree. Boondock Saints was awesome and this guy is a great actor. He beats any of the other people that I have seen nominated for the role. Great pick Howlett.

Chris pine seems too short to be Hal Jordan. Sean Patrick Flannery looks alright, good actor too but Hollywood execs might think he's too old and not a big name enough for a character that's not that known to non-fanboys. No offense to GL fans.

instead of pine, they need the villian from star trek to play hal, eric bana. bana kicked ass in blackhawk down, troy and munich. he's had a few stinkers as well, but iv'e always liked him as an actor.

If it ends up being Bana or Flannery I would be happy. But an unknown might be a good choice too....

Shit. I hope this movie is good.

Sorry but Eric Bana had his chance as a hero in the Hulk and blew it in my books haha. Flannery looks pretty legit but MCMLXXII's right, I think he's getting a bit old for the role.

i didn't necessarily think bana blew it, ang lee did. bana was 1 of the few bright spots for that flick, and i don't think most outside of hardcore fans would even remember him as bruce banner now that ed norton has played him. he wasn't really the "hero" in that movie either. banna was offered the james bond role before daniel craig. i remember seeing on E that he actually accepted that role, but i guess changed his mind (bad move, but craig rocks as bond). anyway i like him, flannery looks good to me as well. i dont get the age thing, GL should be in his mid 30's imo and flannery still fits the bill. too bad gosling doesn't want to do it, he's a very good actor, but seem to like independent and lower profile roles. some actors dont want to get stuck "typecast" i guess.

Oka, so Nathan fillion might be getting a ltitle too old and flabby,b ut they should at least give him a chance to slim down and try to take the role! He look so much like Hal, and he's already got the fanbase down!

Either him, or a total unknown.

Yeah you're right, Ang Lee had no business doing the Hulk film in the first place, but regardless, I still don't think Bana was in any way a bright spot in the film. But lets put that atrocity aside.

nathon fillion is a great idea actually. i think his age is fine and they could whip him into shape. loved him in serenity.

didnt intend for pic to be so huge. forgot to resize. Gotta admit my fav for GL is Nathan Fillion. He seems more like Hal if he was presented as GL right now without development. However, they will probably want to show someone growing into GL and beyond. Fillion might be a little too wise-cracky for GL.

Sean P. Flannery and Bana-definitely not

They should just do an unknown. You don't need an A-list actor all the time. Doesn't mean they can act any better. Just means they bring in the cash. It be refreshing to see someone new. Allowing them to pick someone for the part & not their popularity could make a better fit. Cause now it's not about who's out there that can play Green Lateren but who's not out there who can play Green Lateren.

Pine would be better for Kyle Rayner. What about Hartnett for Hal Jordan? He's kind of the perfect age. 28-29, tall. Maybe, i dont know.

I still like Fillion. Downey Jr was in his 40's when he was cast for Iron Man and Jackman is nearing his mid 40's. They can pull anything off now a days.

I always wanted Sean Patrick Flannery to play Banshee.

I would like to see Nathan Fillion or Michael C Hall as Green Lantern

@SirPrize - thanks for getting the pics up. Glad he seems to be going down well with most of you! I do understand that he's getting on a bit but Hugh wasn't exactly young for X1 and he's going strong. I think Sean would age quite well for a good 3/4 movies.

I see what people are saying with Fillion but I can't really take him seriously enough, it'll be too toungue in cheeck.

Sean Flanery is my pick and I'm sticking to it!

BmanHall. it was me dumbass, anytime you wanna crawl out of your mommy's basement and try tie my hands up, your more than welcome. obviuosly you dont have much mental capacity to look past anything negative, every acor has a bad film, even tom hanks or russell crowe. whats your contribution to this thread besides agreeing with other people's idea's..... btw: if your only like 12, which i suspect, then i was just joking.

BmanHall. here's my advice to you skippy, try not referring to someone as stupid or tying their hands and you wont get my kind of response. as far as you stating that you "simply felt bana was a bad choice for the role of GL" then i would like to see it. it wasn't just you simply disagreeing with me, you personally attacked me. your'e right this is an open forum and i'm being open as i can possibly be. i didn't call you gay for chris pine when you mentioned him. have you seen the previews for star trek? there's probably going to be at least 1 or 2 sequals to this film, so pine playing kirk and GL seems pretty "stoopid" to me. i stand by choice for bana, i think he's a very good acor and would do hal justice. you never realy gave a good reason why he wouldn't. later dumbass.

Howlett good choice, I could definitely see Sean Patrick Flanery playing GL

btw Chris Pine doesnt look THAT young
SPACEHERO55
SPACEHERO55 - 3/26/2009, 4:35 PM

Nope Pine is too young. Hal needs to be in his mid 30's at the most.

I say David Boreanaz. The guy was perfect as Hal in JL New Frontier.

Another actor that I think would be amazing as Hal Jordan is Nathan Fillion. It's ironic that both these actors have heavy ties with Joss Whedon and DC animation.

Nathan Fillion voiced Steve Trevor in the upcoming Wonder Woman animated movie and he voiced Spy Smasher and Vigilante on JLU.

Yet another actor who I would love to see as Hal is Eric Dane he plays Dr. Mark Sloan on Grey's Anatomy and he played Multiple Man in X-Men 3.

And my last pick for Hal Jordan is Nathan Petrelli himself actor Adrian Pasdar. I think that all these actors have the right look and the acting chops to play Hal Jordan.
