Who will be the Green Lantern 2 villain(s)?

Who will be the Green Lantern 2 villain(s)?

With Green Lantern now in post production I thought it was time to maybe think a little bit to the future. Who do you think will be the villain of Green Lantern 2?

Last time I wrote an article it was about what I thought about Brandon Routh and Superman Returns. It’s a controversial topic, and it received praise from Pro-Rouths and disdain by Anti-Rouths. It’s safe to say this time that it won’t be such a contentious article. This time it’s Green Lantern 2 and what I think about possible villains.
*I am fully aware that Mark Strong himself has said that the next film will depict Sinestro's fall but I am doubtful that he would spoil that so early on. I still cant help but wonder! And I am sorry but I needed to voice my opinions on how awesome Hal Jordan is!*

For those of you who don’t know; Hal Jordan entered the comics in the late 1950’s and since then he has been one of DC’s ultimate flagships that has lasted since the silver age of comics. Batman and Superman are the two superheroes that have ruled the big screen supreme for DC, well until now. Green Lantern is offically on its way to a sector near you!

It goes almost without saying that Hal Jordan is awesome. He’s a test pilot, flirts with his boss Carol; he is arrogant, cocky and absolutely cool in every single way. My favorite thing about him is that he is so real. He wasn’t born on Krypton, he isn’t the heir to a billion dollar empire and he sure as hell isn’t a cop scientist that had a little accident involving lightning. He's a halfway screw up who only wanted to reach the skies. And so he did, and then he went for the stars.
As I am writing this the movie is in post production. That’s right. We know Hector Hammond will be the villain but he is not alone. I don’t want to spoil any juice but I know that also some major players are involved. I must tell you abstained from finding out the true spoiler, which can be found at this link: http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/Poniverse/news/?a=21441 - I hope that some of you will do as me and be stunned as you watch it for the first time!
All I know is that next summer it’s going to be emerald green!

If I have had one doubt about this movie it would be Blake Lively. I haven’t seen her act yet and I just couldn’t picture her as the beautiful Carol Ferris from the comics. But after I saw the teaser pictures I was convinced that she certainly was very close to being Carol Ferris. When it comes to Ryan Reynolds I understand people being less than enthusiastic about him. He has portrayed a guy named Wade Wilson in Wolverine Origins. And now he's going to play one of the greatest superheroes ever. He is now in the big leagues!
I was appauled to hear that choice of Hal Jordan rested between Reynolds, Bradley Cooper and Justin Timberlake. JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE!!!!!!!!!!
It’s completely insane! An outrage even! We were so lucky that they didn’t choose him!!
Many have said they wanted Reynolds for the Flash, a choice I never could understand. I think Reynolds was the perfect choice for Hal Jordan. They need a more serious guy to play Barry Allen or Wally West. Patrick Wilson or Ryan Kwanten doesnt seem like half bad choices. Maybe even Seann William Scott would be a good contender.

Green Lantern will propel Reynolds to higher places in Hollywood. This will be Reynolds best work. Martin Campbell will make a classic once more! And to think that they have the almost almighty Geoff Johns helping them out is just so clever. I have no doubt it will be a marvelous movie. It simply must be.
When the costume was revealed I was so happy I almost cried. It's one of those moments I’ll always remember. I poured me a glass of Chivas to celebrate. The suit looked perfect! If I could done one change to it then it would be the eyes. The eyes should've been all white. Besides that it was perfect! The suit looked just as I wanted it too. It's a modern Green Lantern suit defined by his will. And let’s be honest; the suit in the comics won’t translate that good to the big screens. This however was just plain beautiful! It was alien, organic and crisp. Simply stunning! I just can't wait to see how perfect it will be in action! I can’t wait for this movie! I simply can’t wait!!

Now I have to ask you; who would Superman be without Lex Luthor? Who would Batman be without the Joker? And then who would Green Lantern be without Sinestro?
Sinestro is my second favorite villain after the Joker. The Joker as we know is a walking, talking insane asylum and Sinestro, well, he is Adolf Hitler with a power ring. For those of you who aren’t as familiar with Sinestro here’s some history about him:
Thaal Sinestro of Korugar was once the greatest Green Lantern but he always had an urge for control and power. His whole sector 1417 was the most orderly sector of space of them all. But it was so at a cost. Sinestro had used his Green Lantern status to control his home world like a dictator. This resulted in less crime at Korugar but his race was not free. They became puppets under a totalitarian regime. Things were perfect until his close friend Abin Sur crash landed at earth and found a successor: Hal Jordan.
Hal was assigned as apprentice under Sinestro. They had an uncomfortable beginning but they eventually became close. Hal then discovered Sinestro had gained control by instilling fear his sector. Hal had to inform the Guardians and Sinestro received the greatest punishment imagined: banishment to the antimatter universe.
From this point out their relationship has been an extremely rough road. The most interesting part of Hal/Sinestro relationship is the philosophy aspects of between them.

We know that Sinestro is featured in Green Lantern next summer and will be played by the only man worthy of him: Mark Strong. I believe this choice to be 100% perfect. Some wanted Mr. Smith himself Hugo Weaving which I couldn’t completely understand. Mark Strong looks like Sinestro. After it hits the screen next summer I wouldn’t be surprised if Strong’s depiction of Sinestro will be like Jack Nicholson’s Joker. It will be sublime!
It is also known that Sinestro is not the villain in the first movie. But I am pretty sure they are setting him up to be the villain at one point, probably the sequel. His downfall will be so tragic! Can’t you just picture the intro to GL 2? The opening scene is black. You see nothing then you notice a little light far away. Then Sinestro’s chill, alien voice says: “Power corrupts…” – I would’ve just flat out fainted!

There is a big list of possible villains for the next movie. All the way from Star Sapphire to Amon Sur to Atrocitus. I’ve heard that they want to do a back story for Abin Sur which I think could be suitable to introduce Amon Sur and his hate for Hal Jordan. Star Sapphire will be too early to introduce. I want to see Hal and Carol’s relationship strained. I’d go for Star Sapphire in a 3 film.
Now many want a Blackest Night sort of deal. I am kind of against it. They will either have to bastardize Blackest Night or they’ll make it and confuse the average audience. It would’ve been an epic out of proportions but WB wants a good box office. Do you think that’s possible with the Blackest Night stort line?
The Manhunters could be an interesting piece. To see the destruction of Ysmault or them rebelling against the Guardians would’ve been a feast for eyes. Atrocitus being a surviver and the empire of tears wanting to bring down the Green Lantern Corp. What about Sinestro Corp, anyone?
I know what I absolutely don’t want - I do not want to see Hal Jordan turn into the murderous Parallax in the sequels. I never liked that part in the comics. It was so out of character for him. A man like Hal Jordan would never have lost it. It was a terrible storyline which almost destroyed his persona. I think a personal loss would be good for character development in the movies. Something happening to Coast City could work but Hal must not succumb madness or defeat. I say outright NO to Hal turning evil in the movies! It will ruin everything if they do!

I must tell you that I always loved the last part in Green Lantern Rebirth when Parallax infected Ganthet tells Hal: "Give up. You failed once. You'll fail again. Lay down and die. You're weak. You're scared. Give up now. Give up." You see Hal is fighting, holding the line and though it hurts the hell he still stands. "Give up damn you." Then Hal answers "I dont know how."

I was just stunned. My jaw dropped to my feet. This is Hal at his best. His will is so powerful, so precise and determent. He never gives up fighting evil. That's why Hal Jordan is the most incredible character in the DC universe. No offence to Bats, Supes, Flash or WW fans! They're all good but I just think Hal to be one class above. If they included some version of this in one of the movies it would be so epic! It such a defining moment of Hal Jordan.

Well in the end I think the best choice for a villain in the GL sequel is Sinestro. He is an epic character of immense proportions. A tragic hero that falls from grace. His influence on the DC universe should’ve made him on the top 5 list of IGN’s top villains! That being said my favorite main villain choice for the next Green Lantern film is Sinestro, and I think if possible Amon Sur would be interesting.

He might have turned evil for a period in the comics but he never forgot his oath.

Just dont make him the villain in one of the sequels WB/DC!

With that said, I want to know who you guys think would be a suitable villain in the sequel(s)!

Beware my power!

DEADPOOL @ I'd luv to see a big invasion of MANHUNTERS in 3, but yeah could happen in 2 too!

Seriously, if WB had any sense, they'd do a GREEN LANTERN Prequel movie with ALAN SCOTT!

A Guy Gardner TV series too heh heh, yeah I suppose it depends on the box office for GL 1!!!

Still always worth dreaming lol!

Anyway, I bet its up there with THOR, thats 4 sure!

Cool pics btw, I'm seriously thinking we'll have SIN and BLAKLEY as SS in two!

Hope BLAKLEY has upped her game on her acting ability!

Thanks LEEE777! I LOVE GREEN LANTERN! It was too hard to write about possible villains for the sequels without mentioning the 2011 Green Lantern film, and the awesomeness that is Hal Jordan!

There needs to be something that pushes Sinestro over the edge. Finding out that The Manhunters (who would massacre sector 666 in the movie) were created by the Gaurdians would be the last straw. He'd think they were corrupt. Leading him to making an uprising; made up of Green Lanterns, criminals and even the Manhunter themselves, in the third movie.
He could also try to intice Hal Jordan into joining him.

When Jordan refuses Sinestro anticaptes this and uses him as the new host for PARALLAX.
Kyle Rayner becomes the new Lantern, but instead of killing off Hal we have a scene like in Sinestro Corps War in which Kyle enters Hal's mind and helps him overcome Parallax.
They fight the Sinestro Corps together and in the end Hal has his own rookie to train... Kyle Rayner.

What do you guys think about John Stewart and his role in this film and perhaps the sequels? When they meet it will be like in Secret Origins. That would've been awesome!

For GL 2 I hope to see Amon Sur. I think that would be a great story. Also as a sub-plot have Sinestro have falling out with The Guardians pushing him to make the Sinestro Corps for the 3rd movie. Half way through the third movie they should introduce Kyle Rayner (with a relatively young actor) to help out Hal with fighting Sinestro and his army. After that movie they should start a new trilogy with Kyle Rayner as the lead and have John Stewart be a supporting character and have the Green Lantern Corps be really focused on

imo let's wait for the first to drop then look into the future but

@ negativeman - a Blackest Night movie after all the solo's have dropped, JLA and hopefully World's Greatest would kick ass. End all DC comics with a Blackest Night, shit we can all dream right lol

I'm hoping the sequel isn't just "Green Lantern 2" but "The Green Lantern Corps". That sounds like a better title especially if they incorporate Stewart and Guy. Then, Sinestro should be completely bad with Hal becoming the host of Parallax at the end as a cliff hanger. The third movie could then introduce Kyle, and be called something like "Green Lantern: Emerald Dawn" something that plays along with the comics titles.

@Angelus The clip from comic con was watermarked with an infrared beam, so even if you tried to record it, it would be blank on your screen when you looked at it.

@witty Im not someone who thinks that far ahead of who will be a villian in a second or third movie when the first one is still in post production is all, I am sure that it will involve Sinestro. Watch him find the Yellow Element at the end of the movie and go "Oh What is this?", just a thought is all.

i bet when they finish this series of green lanterns (when ryan reynolds has had enough), they will probably just keep on going with the next guy, not sure who that is. is it john stewart?

at least that's what they'd do if they were smart.

as for gl2, im not too big on green lantern, but i think it should be sinestro, i guess it depends on how the first one ends, i heard parallax will be in the final huge battle scene

I know this is NEVER going to happen, but this is what I would LOVE to see in a GL series of movies. Or at least I think this would be REALLY cool:

1. Green Lantern
In the ending to the first movie, after the final battle, I would love to see Sinestro rip Parallax from Hammond, and in that moment realize the power of fear.

2. Green Lantern 2: Darkest Hour (i couln't think of a better name)
In the second movie we see just how close Hal and Sinestro become as allies (mentor and mentee). Have them team up against the Quardians, who are up to something evil. Hal travels to Korugar and we find out that Sinestro has a yellow power ring and has been using that to murder keeping his sector in fear. He has been behind everything bad that happens during this movie and he is now allied with Parallax. At the very end, coast city is destroyed and you see that the seeds of Parallax have been planted within Hal. (introduce John Stewart and Guy Gardner as Hal's backups)

3. Green Lantern Corp: Emeral Twilight (again with the lack of a better name)
Introduce Star Sapphire. Hal becomes obsessed with his duties as GL and abandons Carol. She gets the violet ring and Hal dukes it out with his former lover in a crazy battle of light. He finds out about the Zammaron's connection to the guardians and starts to doubt the itsy bitsy blue immortals.
After this, he tries to reconstruct Coast City with his ring. As he does this, you see Parallax struggling to take control as hal's insane amount of will power subconsciously fights it. When he's reprimanded he looses it, goes after the guardians and we see Emerald Twilight. Kyle and the rest receive their rings. The guardians realize it is the fear entity in Hal and in an attempt to match Hal's power, they posses Kyle with Ion, the entity of Willpower. During the battle, the Zammaron's their final attack, and for an instant Hal breaks through and directs all the power he has at this last threat, sacrificing himself for the Universe, releasing Parallax.

(after the credits, we see Sinestro collect parallax, get ripped to shreds, and reassembled in front of a HUGE Yellow Central Power Battery on Quard. His ring says to Parallax "welcome to the Sinestro Corp of Fear. You are now on Quard, our entity- or something better that i hopefully can think of later)

4. Green Lantern: The Sinestro Corp
Open with Kilowog and the rest of the Earthmen bursting out of Oa saying, "we can bring him back!" and explaining that he was merely converted to energy (much like we saw happening to sinestro after the credits of the last movie) They bring back Hal and the movie begins. During the credits we show a montage of Hal winning back his rank as the greatest green lantern.
After opening credits, we find out that many of the lanterns still don't trust Hal. And from this point on, we have the Sinestro Corp war.

5. Green Lantern: The War of Light:

Introduce the rest of the corp essentially the way Geoff Johns did it. It was an incredible story. But have the bad forces massing against the good ones. Ending in one BAD ASS fight!

6: (and im still struggling with this idea but) Blackest Night!

(if not the blackest night than another story after Hal is brought back, then Sinestro Corp as movie 5. Then Movie 6 could be the War of Light)
