2016 marks the release of a highly anticipated film. Batman vs Superman or whatever the hell it'll be called has got alot of people wondering about what other DC properties might end up along side Bat-Fleck. The most likely answer is The Justice League but, what characters will be in it and who will play them. Green lantern will no doubt be in the mix in some way hopefully. But it better not be Ryan Reynolds' chin below that green, glowing domino mask. Here's why:
In 2011's Green Lantern film (which is an issue in itself) has the ability to shoehorn it's way in the new DCU if it wasn't for one thing. In Man of Steel it's presumed that "Super Heroes" are new to the world, starting with Superman. If that's the case then how would Green Lantern fit in? That film came out two years before MOS and no one mentions that giant green race car catching a falling helicopter or the giant yellow cloud that almost rained on that flying green man's parade. So how is it at all apart of the same world. Arguments could be made that the films' events don't take place on their release but then when do they take place?
All I want is for DC to have a coherent cinematic universe like Marvel (minus the Hulk/Ruffalo/Norton fiasco). Is that too much to ask? A better solution I feel for the lack of green in current DCU may already be happening. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has been dropping hints via twitter that he will be playing a role in a DC movie. Many speculate that it's Lobo or Darkseid but those with some creativity say John Stewart, and no it's not the guy who hosts The Daily Show. This sound like a great plan because casting the Rock gives you a few oppurtunities. The first would be the least popular in my opinion, but that would be to keep the existing GL film cannon but have Reynolds hand over his secter of the galaxy to Johnson. The second which sounds much morre appealing is just straight up rebooting the character with Johnson as Stewart. Not bad but if DC wants to get real cray I offer a third suggestion.
Nathan Fillion isn't in a Marvel property yet so my advice for DC would be to scoop him up before his old buddy Whedon invites him to come play for his team. Imagine this, Nathan Fillion as Hal Jordan. Hell, you don't even have to imagine it. Fillion has already voiced GL in a number of DC animated movies. He's a perfect fit. But don't stop there DC, What if after Nathan Fillion is a huge hit as GL and a sequel gets the green light? Dwayne Johnson as John Stewart alongside Nathan Fillion as Hal Jordan in a Green Lantern styled buddy cop movie!!! The chemistry between those two would make Robert Downey Jr. shake in his iron, red boots. Not to mention it would be a nice comparision to the RDJ and Don Cheedle duet. Ahh I can see it now. BUt not really because by the time another Green Lantern movie comes out I'll be so old that I literally won't have any part of my sight left.
