Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn recently took to Twitter to announce that there's one week to go until Vol. 3 finishes shooting, but it looks like production has already wrapped on the Disney+ Holiday Special.
The filmmaker shared a couple of photos of some Christmas baubles Marvel Studios presented him as a wrap gift, and while they don't feature live-action images of the characters, they do give us a first glimpse of some promo art.
You'll need to zoom in for a closer look, but the images include Drax, Mantis, Star-Lord, Kraglin, Nebula, Rocket, a buff-looking Groot (maybe he's approaching adulthood?), and a pooch we assume must be Cosmo the Space Dog.
Plot details remain a mystery, but Gunn did recently reveal that the special would debut "one of the greatest MCU characters of all time" (in his "incredibly subjective and admittedly often odd opinion"). He'd later clarify that "more than one great new MCU character will be introduced."
At the time, there was speculation that the director might be referring to Richard Rider/Nova, but we recently learned that the space-faring hero will lead his own project, so that seems unlikely.
It's also been confirmed that the special will be set between the events of Vol. 2 and Vol. 3. No premiere date has been announced, but it is scheduled for release this December.
