GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Animated Series Coming To Disney XD; Trailer Released
An animated Guardians of the Galaxy series (which apparently picks up after the events of the movie) is in the works, with Thanos set to play a prominent role. We also have the first teaser trailer for the series along with a brand new poster. Hit the jump to check them out!
The New York Times reveal that a Guardians of the Galaxy animated series is indeed coming to Disney XD next year. Rumblings of such a series began at the San Diego Comic Con back in July, but this is the first time we've had confirmation. Details are scarce as of right now, but as the channel continues to try and expand its audience - with the upcoming launch of Star Wars Rebels for example - Gary Marsh, president of Disney Channels Worldwide says, "We have more exciting collaborations in the pipeline," an indication that more Marvel shows could follow perhaps.
According to the site, the animated series will feature the same characters as the film; Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket Raccoon and Groot. Stephen Wacker, Marvel’s vice president for current animation says that the Guardians of the Galaxy animated series will attempt to replicte the movie's offbeat humour and that it WILL pick up where the James Gunn helmed release left off and that Thanos will figure prominently in the show. It will likely be a very loose follow up to the movie then, but not one which have a significant impact on the 2017 sequel. We'll have to wait and see!
Thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we have the first poster for the series along with a trailer.
