Michael Rooker Comments On GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Casting Buzz

The Walking Dead actor (who previously worked with director James Gunn on Slither) put himself forward for a role in Guardians of the Galaxy last year, but he has now made it clear that being friends with the director doesn't mean he's automatically a part of the movie.

Talking at a special panel at the Emerald City Comicon today, Michael Rooker was asked about the casting buzz surrounding him and James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy. Last year, The Walking Dead actor speculated that he could reunite with the Slither director for Marvel Studios' first trip into outer space, before going so far as to tell fans to start campaigning for him to voice Rocket Raccoon; a suggestion which was met with a VERY positive response from fans. Here is what Rooker said about exactly that (many thanks to Comic Book Resources for the following excerpt).

He turned aside questions of whether he'd appear in Gunn's upcoming film take on "Guardians of the Galaxy," saying, "Just because you're friends with James Gunn doesn't mean you're gonna be in his movie."

There's not a lot to go on here, but his response was neither a definitive "Yes" or "No" answer. With David Batista and Jason Momoa reportedly competing for the role of Drax and the search for Rocket Raccoon coming to a close, there aren't an awful lot of roles left for Rooker. Here's hoping that Gunn finds one, eh? Be sure to sound off with your thoughts in the usual place!

I still dont get this, they already have a voice actor from the animated movie. Just use him. He is cheap, and already has a sense of the character.

I can picture Rooker's voice going pretty well with Rocket, but my dream casting has to be Ray Winstone

But if they really want a name actor for his voice i say Nick Nolte.

The only people I hear in my head when I think of Rocket Raccoon is Ray Winstone or Jason Statham.

I honestly imagine Rocket Raccoon's voice as a slightly less deep version of Jason Statham.

@Panther I thought the same thing. Maybe Thor wasn't exactly in space, but just another dimension, on a planet. But hey, it's still outer space for us, mere humans.

I'm gonna go with what I've heard everyone suggesting, Jason Statham as the Raccoon.

BlackFlash, Jason statham is my first choice too but judging by how he feels about the superhero genre i cant imagine how he would take to playing a Raccoon. Although he did do Romeo and Juliet so who knows

I dont want them to waste money on Jim Carry or Statham, or any big name actor for RR. It's not necessary. there are plenty of over-qualified voice actors they can get for a fraction of the price that they would pay for a screen actor.

Rooked is kind of a dick. Couldn't be bothered to say anything to people at good morning Texas awhile back other than "if you want pictures, pay for them at the convention".

So, screw him. I guess would be the main point of this.

I wish the fanboys & their website cronies would stop pushing actors into roles that could go to better actors for the role. Rooker as Rocket would take me right out of the picture & have me thinking Walking Dead!
