Michael Rooker On GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY's 'Groot' And Fans' Growing Enthusiasm

After chatting with Jaimie Alexander, Forbes blogger Mark Hughes spoke with The Walking Dead actor Michael Rooker during Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo this weekend. Speaking about the notion that Groot, voiced by Vin Diesal, is just a talking tree, Rooker objects: “Groot is not a tree, he’s a different being from a different universe. And he’s not like a tree the way we have trees. We use it for cordwood, for cooking and heating our homes. Groot is a whole different being from a whole different galaxy, somewhere you don’t even know where he’s from. I don’t even know where he’s from. He just happens to look like bark.” About the fans' growing interest in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, Michael Rooker said, “It’s a great series, I love the old series and the new one’s pretty cool, too. So I think it’s helping people go back and look at the series if they haven’t seen it yet. Then they get all high about it, and it’s awesome.” What do you think?

“Guardians of the Galaxy,” the next epic adventure from Marvel Studios, is directed by James Gunn from his screenplay, with a story by Nicole Perlman and Gunn, and the film will introduce audiences to a whole new side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The all-star cast includes Chris Pratt as Peter Quill aka Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Karen Gillan as Nebula, two-time Academy Award nominee Djimon Hounsou as Korath, Academy Award® winner Benicio del Toro as The Collector, Academy Award nominee John C. Reilly as Rhomann Dey, and six-time Academy Award nominee Glenn Close as Nova Prime, with Vin Diesal as Groot and Academy Award nominee Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon. Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” is scheduled for release August 1, 2014!

Have you guys ever watched a show called UFO Files Unsealed? Apparently the US Government has been working with a race called "The Greys" for years. Basically, they're the ones who do all the abductin' 'n' shit...

The thing's the US Gov. makes up to hide it's one major conspiracy... The process of getting Justin Bieber American citizenship.

Damn. Michael Rooker should have also commented on the fan favorite Rocket Raccoon. We all know that Rocket Raccoon is going to be the favorite in the film.

Groot is the most riskiest and most complex thing about this movie. People say Rocket Raccoon is more risky but I disagree. Your dealing with a character who not only looks like a Tree, but also only says 3 words. Vin Diesel has a lot to do for this role. He has to show emotion to a character who has a hard time showing emotion. I'm looking forward to seeing Groot the most!

I still think opening this movie in August is a very bad move. The movie going crowd seem exhausted by then. I wonder what the biggest box office opening for an August release is?

I so much hate the idea behind the Movie for Guardians. I remember the comic series without the ridicules animated squirrel and walking tree. When they were actually a Hero team worth reading.

This is like having the Fantastic 4 minus Human Torch and instead having the flying damn robot.

I'll be honest, at first I said that this movie would be a waste of money because the general audience wouldn't want to watch a movie about a talking racoon and a tree. But there are so many people excited for Rocket and Groot! I wouldn't be surprised if the fangirls forgot about Loki and would suddenly worship Rocket Racoon.
