SPECULATION: Was There A Hint To Adam Warlock In THOR THE DARK WORLD?

The user figuresmaniac recently posted a picture which shows that there was possibly an Adam Warlock reference in Thor The Dark World. Come check out the image and see for yourselves, plus my thoughts on the character in the MCU. **SPOILER WARNING**

Editorial Opinion
By NovaCorpsFan - Nov 14, 2013 12:11 PM EST

As I mentioned in the teaser, the following image was posted by the CBM user figuresmaniac, who I am going to thank most greatly because jesus man, you just made my brain explode. I planned on writing an editorial about the easter eggs in the Thor The Dark World mid-credit scene (which featured Sif and Volstagg going to the Collector with the Aether), but when I went to do research on Marvel aliens pretty much nothing came up positive. So, this picture has just gave me peace of mind that there was indeed something there, at least. Cheers again for posting this figuresmaniac.

Right, my thoughts on him and how he'll relate to the MCU. I figure we'll get a much closer look at the cocoon in Guardians, maybe Star Lord spots it in Collector's lair, recognises it and they steal it. Star Lord keeps the contents a secret from the others and we see it hatch in the end-credits scene, with just a golden skinned arm piercing through the shell.
I think that'd be pretty cool. That of course leaves him open to development in a sequel. He could even be the villain of that movie if the Magus side of his personality became dominant.
Either way, I'm pretty freakin' excited to see that we may have got Adam Warlock set up for the future.

What d'you guys think? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below.

Holy hell, that's nice catch. A nod to Adam Warlock at least IMO.

Marvel has shown nothing but balls when pushing heady comics material to mainstream audiences. Adam Warlock is essential to the Infinity Gauntlet saga but a very secondary Marvel character, one that even diehard fans quickly forget about. I was nervous at first but based on how Thor and the Asgardians were handled, and the fact Guardians of the Galaxy is becoming a movie (still cant believe that one)and the fact the freakin' Collector (Ben del Toro doing a great job btw)is involved I think its safe to say Marvel can do anything.

Adam Warlock on the big screen? Bring it on.

Ok so for those of us who don't know much about warlock, how does the larva egg sack relate to him?
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 11/14/2013, 2:04 PM
The Lokey

He's inside it.

He goes inside that cocoon every so often to regenerate, from what I understand. Almost like being reborn.

They found him in it in Annihilation: Conquest also, which is a much more recent story than this example.

He is in the egg and he "hatches". In the infinity gauntlet once he hatches he goes to dr. Strange. He tasks strange with gathering earths heros and warlock sets out with silver surfer to plan the attack on thanos and gather the most powerful entity's in existence.

Thanks guys, I have the infinity gauntlet series but have no recollection of Warlock hatching out of anything, guess I should re read it, it's been a while

That is VERY probable. I too saw it thought it looked familiar but didn't put two and two together.

Adam Warlock is a must to be in the MCU. Hope they have both Adam Warlock and Magus. Heh, they could even make the Goddess cool I'd watch. ;P

(Note: For those who don't know: And When Adam removed the quality of being good or evil. That wish created two other personas of Adam Warlock: Magus = evil and The Goddess = good. Or a sort of good. See she wanted to take away the choice of good or evil from the universe. (If you want to know more read: Infinity Gauntlet, Infinity War, and Infinity Crusade.

All good books IMO.

GliderMan Sort of. I'd say he more tries to be but that ultimately has complications. He's a complicated character. ;P

Glider

I suppose so.

He was created by the High Evolutionary, who he considers his father, and HE also calls Warlock his son. Warlock constantly risks his life for the good of the universe, comes close to dying every time, then he regenerates in the cocoon and is "resurrected" later.

So yeah, there is a link there.

I want to see so many things in the MCU.

Adam Warlock

Nova (not just the corps)

Galactus and Silver Surfer (hopefully the FF reboot goes through development hell)

The Shi'Ar and Kree and The Shi'ar imperial guard with Gladiator at the helm!

Infinity, The Eternals and the Living Tribunal.

THE POWER COSMIC!!!

Fun Fact:

Jack Kirby based the Eternals off the Ancient Astronauts theory and was deeply invested in the idea.

I did notice that one of the cases had a giant blue butterfly in it. Another had one of those aliens from the Guardians set photos from the bridge in London. Y'know with the grey crown things on their heads?

Couldn't find any relevance for those things on Marvel Wiki.

it was odd that the cocoon was a focal point of the scene. Hopefully it is something. I can be asured that if Marvel were to do something with it, they would say, "We planted the seed a while ago, no pun intended" And if it wasnt part of the plan, they could just as easily say " Oh, it was just some weird alien thing"

Cool speculations though. Hopefully, it is true.

It's legitimate to ask if that it was an easter egg but reading fan boy speculation about how they are going to play it in the film is just embaressing
Enki
Enki - 11/14/2013, 3:44 PM
I believe that it is too early in the game to believe that this apparent cocoon is in fact referencing Adam Warlock.

However, one thing that Marvel has made clear thoughout the years is that usually whenever Thanos appears on the scene, Adam Warlock is not far behind.

So even if this is not a Warlock reference, you can rest assured that we will eventually see Adam Warlock in the MCU.

You don't like speculation?

So, you read the title of this, right?

You thought, "Oh jeez, I hate when fanboys do this."

Then clicked it anyway?

Adam Warlock is a personal favorite for me. If you've never read the whole MAGUS saga you might want to. I totally think that GotG 2 will be all about Warlock. Perhaps even an adaptation of the Magus saga (aka The Strange Death of Adam Warlock)

So that little add on at the end was a preview from Guardians? Guardians is a comic i know exactly zero about. That little bit i saw so far did NOOOT look good....no....that did not look good to me at all.

I think the fantastic four were first to meet him, then he fought with thor over thors woman
then he returned as a jesus type
then he started to get freaked out about his evil side the magus
then i discovered girls!

He was my favourite character for a long time
drawn by kirby kane and starlin.

@NovaCorpsFan

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's an Adam Warlock reference. I mentioned seeing the cocoon a few days ago on the 'Agents of Shield/Dark World Promo thread.

I think it's MORE than fair for you to 'speculate' on this...I mean why in the hell ELSE would MARVEL PUT A FRIGGIN HUGE COSMIC LARVAE in a scene regarding GOTG and the INFINITY GAUNTLET? It wasn't just a split second shot, either.
