GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY: Amanda Seyfried Gives New Reason Why She Turned Down Gamora Role

Amanda Seyfried was apparently the first choice to play Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy, as she's previously disclosed that she turned the role down over misgivings over the character's make-up process.

For over a year, Amanda Seyfried has hinted that she was the first choice to play Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy. The subject always comes up when the actress is interviewed and asked about playing a superhero.

Previously, Seyfried stated that she turned the role down because she'd heard from X-Men actress Jennifer Lawrence that removing Mystique's blue paint was a real chore. However, in a new interview, Seyfriend admits that she turned the part down because she didn't think the movie would be good, and didn't want to be associated with a failed superhero film.

"I didn’t want to be part of the first Marvel movie that bombed," said Seyfired.  She added, Who wants to see a movie about a talking tree and a raccoon?’ Which is clearly – I was very wrong."

The Les Misérables actress went on to explain; "The script was great, [but my fear] was all based on not wanting to be ‘that guy’. Because if you’re the star of a giant movie like that, and it bombs, Hollywood does not forgive you. I’ve seen that happen to people and it was a giant, giant fear. I thought, 'Is it worth it?"

Given how successful the Guardians franchise went on to become and how pivotal the role of Gamora was to the MCU's Thanos narrative, Seyfried is definitely kicking herself for declining.

Early concept art for Gamroa, back when the character was more blue than green, bears a striking resemblance to the actress.

Not like Gamora is the star of the movie, but yeah after a major bomb, usually takes a few years before actors are offered big projects

I don't blame her. Certain movies make or break your career. Seyfried would be a great Emma Frost if she wants to join the MCU.

Let’s not forget that Chris Evans wanted to turn down Captain America because he was frightened about what it would mean for his career. It’s perfectly alright. But she did miss out on a potentially life changing career choice. We can’t say she would have succeeded, but we can say that Zoë Saldana has done more than fine with her place in the role.

@lawndart - tbf, there's a lot of movies she would have had to say no to due to the MCU scheduling. Like First Reformed.

"Amanda Seyfried was apparently the FIST choice".

"fist" choice. The first thing I thought of (after how often this site doesn't proof-read their material) is the film (which I didn't see) where she played Linda Lovelace.

@LSHF - it’s actually a very good movie and not in a base eroticizing way. Makes you really see the dark underbelly and the mindset of some of the power brokers in that industry. The final sequence of the movie where she finally gets to present her side was genuinely emotive. Seyfried is a good actress with the right material.

Can't say I blames her. Many people questioned the choice to make GotG before it hit theaters.
