He-Man fans have been waiting for a first look at Kevin Smith's follow-up to the classic animated series, and it's finally here. Netflix has debuted the teaser trailer for Masters of The Universe: Revelation.

The teaser begins with Skeletor challenging The Sorceress to bring on her champion (that's He-Man, for the uninitiated), and from there we're treated to plenty of action-packed clips of fan-favorite characters such as Mer-Man, Tri-Clops, Stratos, Teela, Orko and more waging battle.

"We get to see them engage not just in clashing swords, but in far deeper conversations than we've ever seen them before," Smith said in a recent interview. "It's not just simply like these two dudes [He-Man and Skeletor] have been trying to beat each other up for decades. We get to tell stories of abuse. We get to kind of tell stories of isolation, grief. We use these characters as long as they've been around — and most people consider them toys or action figures — to tell insanely human stories set in a very inhuman world."

Revelation will serve as a sequel to the '80s animated series, and has assembled quite a voice cast to continue the story, with Mark Hamill as Skeletor, Lena Headey as Evil-Lyn, Sarah Michelle Gellar as Teela, Alicia Silverstone as Queen Marlena, Kevin Conroy as Mer-Man, and original Skeletor voice actor Alan Oppenheimer taking on role of Moss Man.

Check out the teaser below.

Liam Cunningham as Man-At-Arms, Griffin Newman as Orco, Stephen Root as Cringer, Diedrich Bader as King Randor and Trap Jaw, Tiffany Smith as Andra, Henry Rollins as Tri-Klops, Susan Eisenberg as Sorceress, Jason Mewes as Stinkor, Phil LaMarr as He-Ro, Tony Todd as Scare Glow, Cree Summer as Priestess, Kevin Michael Richardson as Beast Man, and Harley Quinn Smith as Ileena round out the cast.

Masters of the Universe: Revelation will be split into two parts, with the five episodes of Part 1 premiering on Netflix July 23. Let us know what you think of this first look at the show in the comments, and keep an eye out for that trailer!

It looks tremendous, if there's something Netflix is getting good at is animation. July's setting up to be a good month with Black Widow and now this, let's go.

I absolutely loved He Man growing up, at the time my favourite cartoon along with Thundercats.

This trailer looks great, I cannot wait.

For any fans check out Power of Grayskull: The Definitive History of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe on Netflix, it's amazing

PS Holding out for a Hero is one of my favourite tracks to workout to

I'm not going to lie, I'd like to see some of my childhood movies like Terminator, Predator & Aliens get animated sequels instead of movies that are more miss than hit

@SimplyAz - He-Man, Thundercats, TMNT, and Transformers was my gateway drug into DC/Marvel.

I can’t wait for this!!

@sKeemAn -

I definitely enjoyed the Dark Horse comics more than most of the recent movie remakes/sequels.

Now THIS looks fantastic! Not gonna lie I was a bit worried it would take itself too seriously, but the colors, the animation, and the use of “I Need a Hero” has me SOLD. Not to mention the voice acting

Hamil is great, but if you're bringing back original Skeletor voice actor, why not give himthe Skeletor role?

@HeeroG - Alan Oppenheimer is 91. He might not be up to voicing a series main villain on regular basis anymore. I heard a rumor that the role as Moss-Man was written just so that they could have him in the show in someway.

@Odin - I concur. Having met the guy himself, he's getting on in years, but still has some of the spark that made him in-demand.

(Also does a mean Paul Lynde.)

Loved the 2002 series as a kid. The animation is really good looking here. Music choice was a surprise, but I loved it. Definitely will check this out.

Looks alright. I’m worried about the dialogue when they’re standing around talking. This looks like they put in all the action.
