A 'Revelation' becomes a 'Revolution as Netflix reveals the first look at Masters of the Universe: Revolution, the sequel series to Masters of the Universe: Revelation. This latest incarnation of He-Man pits Grayskull's champion against a Motherboard-enhanced Skeletor and Hordak.

Masters of the Universe: Revelation premiered on Netflix in July 2021 and has released 10 episodes to date. Kevin Smith created the series as a more serious continuation of Filmation's classic, meme-creating 1983 animated He-Man cartoon.

Revelation was actually released in two parts, with Part 2's 5-episode run dropping in November 2021. And it was Part 2 in particular, that drew the ire of He-Man fans who accused Kevin Smith of having a "woke agenda" and destroying the He-Man mythos by making Teela the true hero of the story.

Smith was very outspoken in his defense of the show, telling Variety at the time, "You really [frick]ing think Mattel Television, who hired me and paid me money, wants to do a [frick]ing Masters of the Universe show without He-Man? Grow the [frick] up, man." This response only invited more attacks on Smith from He-Man fans on YouTube and social media.

Smith makes a reference this tumultuous period in the show's history in the Tweet below with his "slings" and "arrows" remark.

Hopefully, the continuation of the show and its slightly revamped title serves to put the controversy in the rearview mirror and proves to have a better connection with longtime fans.

The official synopsis for the show's new season reads, "It’s technology versus magic when He-Man and the heroic warriors face the forces of Skeletor and something more in MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE: REVOLUTION – the new epic chapter in the battle for Castle Grayskull! The newly mechanized Skeletor, armed with the might of Motherboard, attacks the heart of Eternia while Prince Adam grapples with a new responsibility and what that means for him as He-Man! Adam is forced to choose between the scepter or the sword, and a life as either the King or the Champion! Meanwhile, the new Sorceress Teela searches for the secret of Snake Magic in the mists of Darksmoke to rebuild a magic realm and help He-Man hold off the greatest threat Eternia has ever faced: the return of the despot Hordak, the ruthless leader of the Horde Empire!"

I like the tweet required the paragraphs to explain the backstory to the arrows and slingshots mention.

Anyway, I enjoyed Revelation so I'll give this a go too. Never watched the original, so I didn't mind He-Man seemingly reduced role. Not that he needs a major role though. The show's called 'Master of the Universe', not 'He-Man'.

@bkmeijer1 - The original series was entitled "HE-MAN and the Masters of the Universe", so I don't think it's crazy for fans to expect him to be the lead.

@Feralwookiee - for the original show it makes sense to expect he was the lead, but the new show didn't carry that title. Having that expectation is not Kevin's or the show's fault

@bkmeijer1 - it's "Masters"

and, you missed out not seeing the original show. To us kids back then? Greatest show ever.

I suggest getting on YouTube and looking up "The Secret of the Sword." It's when He-Man meets his sister.
Also, in the mid-to-late 80s Dolph L. stared as He-Man in the titled "Masters of the Universe.' It's sadly nothing like the show but still entertaining.

@lazlodaytona - oh yeah, missed the s. But my point remains the same. It's not indicative of who the title refers to.

But I might look it up. I heard it before, so maybe I should. It's just that I grew up with different shows, so no idea if it's the show for me.

I watched revelation, my kids grew up on Heman and walked out after 15 minutes of first episode, I stuck with it. The show was dogshit and changed canon and crapped all over original show. Heman was barely in it, let's hope that this 2nd season goes back to the basics. I love that universe, grew up in it, am willing to take a chance. Will never re-watch season 1, re-watch original all the time.

will he man be sidelined after one episode again.

If so, at least dont focus on teela again, you changed the title, the title is not Teela its masters of the universe

so you gave teela a story, now give another character a story

I grew up in the 80’s and was the right age for this show and I gotta tell you we all thought it was crap back then. It was something we had to sit through on Saturday morning and wait until Transformers started. I don’t know how anyone now could sit through those absolute rubbish cartoons now, it’s not like they’re as good as something like The Batman Animated series where they actually had a story and good voice acting. We made fun of the kids who had He-Man toys. It was a shit cartoon that doesn’t deserve the effort of whatever Netflix is doing with it today. The main character sounds and looks like he should be on a float at a gay Mardi Gras.

Animation looks good and the fact Keith David joins is pretty good.

Hopefully it learned from the mistakes of the first part from S1.
