First GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE Sequel Trailer Coming Tomorrow

Following last week's teaser, Sony Pictures has officially announced that the first trailer for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (if that is the actual title) will be online tomorrow...

Who you gonna call?

We're not exactly sure who'd answer since the studio is being very secretive about this, but it certainly looks like a first teaser of some description for the upcoming Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel will be online at some point tomorrow.

The official Ghostbusters X (formerly Twitter) account recently shared a cryptic video which appeared to be teasing the first trailer for the follow-up to Jason Reitman's Ghostbusters: Afterlife, and Sony Pictures has now confirmed that the sneak peek is imminent.

The promo doesn't reveal any footage, simply highlighting another version of the frozen logo that debuted earlier this year. Nor does it confirm the recent rumor that the Afterlife sequel will be called Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, but we have it on good authority that this is indeed the movie's official title.

Gil Kenan will direct the movie, with Reitman stepping into a producer role.

Check out the brief teaser below.

The first set photos were shared online back in April (click here to have a look), and they featured original Ghostbuster Ernie Hudson alongside Paul Rudd, who debuted in the last movie as the kids' teacher, Mr. Grooberson, and another actor from the '80s classic, William Atherton as "dickless" Environmental Protection Agency officer Walter Peck.

Plot details are still under wraps, but after moving the spooky adventures to a more rural setting for Afterlife, it's been confirmed that we'll be returning to New York City in the next movie.

Other main cast members Carrie Coon (Callie Spengler) Finn Wolfhard (Trevor), and Mckenna Grace (Phoebe) are expected to return, but it's not clear if Hudson's fellow Ghostbusters OGs Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd will also reprise their roles.

In the previous movie's stinger, we saw Winston return to the team's old headquarters, where the refurbished ECTO-1 was waiting. Though nothing has been confirmed just yet, the implication was that Zeddemore was planning to train a new group of spook-hunters.

"Running out of options and money, single mum Callie sets foot in the small town of Summerville, Oklahoma, with her two teenage children, Phoebe and Trevor. And now, there is no turning back. As the family attempts to settle in the dilapidated house of Callie's eccentric late father, unexpected secrets hidden in plain sight, mysterious equipment, and a strange vehicle rotting in the barn seem to relate to the area's puzzling seismic activity, and something even more shocking: the long-forgotten Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man Incident in 1980s New York City. But there hasn't been a single ghost sighting since the bizarre events of Ghostbusters II (1989). Is history repeating itself? Will Phoebe connect the dots, give her grandfather a voice, and discover the family's connection to the original Ghostbusters (1984)?"

I'll never look at the fandom the same way ever again after how they reacted to the 2016 film.

@CoHost - That movie had nothing new to offer besides "we're going to have women instead of men".

If only they made it a sequel instead of a reboot, they would have gotten way less backlash. But they were too lazy to do that.

TIL there's a sequel in the works. I haven't seen a GB movie since part 2. Anything I'm missing?

@Crtdacct2say - the 2021 movie and the video game (which is essentially GB3)

@Crtdacct2say - I watched Afterlife a couple months ago and liked it way more than I imagined I would. If you're a GB fan you should try it.

@Fogs - Yeah, GBA was solid. Different than the original 2, but still fun and the nostalgia was just right (not too heavy). It was a good foundation for future stories to build on.

@Crtdacct2say - Afterlife is pretty good, it's a movie that is not trying to replicate the originals and introduce the Ghostbusters franchise to a new audience.

It's the way to go, as it is just impossible to remake a smash hit like Ghostbusters 1984. Hollywood thinks they can, but the truth is, cult classics like Ghostbusters are always a kind of happy accident, a movie that shapes an era and becomes a cult classic . You can't manufacture or replicate that.

The last one was a thousand times better than GB2 and 2016. Anyone that tells you otherwise is a plant. Also Ohio just approved recreational pot! Woo hoo!

I know. She went crazy when that movie succeeded after her awful movie flopped.

She blamed everyone but the Pope.

@DocSpock - My favourite bit is when Sony announced the trilogy boxset (GB, GB2, GBA) and her & Feig got their panties up in a bunch over their slop being excluded, so Sony added a leaflet for a digital download for the 2016 one in the box 🤣🤣 They finally got that GB trilogy box set, they weren't gonna stain it with this abomination.

Truly, a waste of perfectly good paper, if you ask me.

I completely agree. her blaming the failure of that awful movie on male toxicity, racism, & sexism was beyond ridiculous.

I hope it's on par with Afterlife.

That movie had heart. I thought it was incredible that a GB story, despite being in a small town, still felt like it. It was truly a well-made love letter.

And it shows how the problem never was with women on board. The girls on the team are awesome and have character. Really hope the team dynamic is the focus cause imo it's the secret for a good GB film.
