It's unclear why the Platinum Dunes producers--Brad Fuller and Andrew Form--announced the end of the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" franchise when the 2003 remake earned $110 million on a $9 million budget as well as its prequel in 2006 earning $55 million on a $13 million budget.
It now seems the end of Leatherface may not be on the horizon after all. Twisted Pictures, the production company responsible for the "Saw" horror franchise, is currently in the process of acquiring the rights to "Texas Chainsaw Massacre." This would mean Leatherface and Jigsaw would appear under the same production company.
With the deal in favor of Twisted Pictures, the plan is to follow the trend of bringing the film in 3D format, which should be scripted by the screenwriter who brought "Grudge 3," Stephen Susco. Similar to "Saw," Twisted Pictures will develop multiple installments of "Texas Chainsaw Massacre."
Whispers68: I'm a fan of the "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" released in 2003, but the follow-up prequel was a disaster in my opinion. Too many things were wrong with the outcome so I'm a bit worried this franchise has met its end creatively. Perhaps Twisted Pictures could resuscitate Leatherface. My other concern is with the idea of introducing several installments, does this mean we'll see a film roughly every year or so? Is anyone awaiting another "Texas Chainsaw Massacre?"
