UPDATED: Edward Norton Says A Sequel To The Incredible Hulk Is Unlikely

We know from previous coverage of the SXSW festival that Norton sounds positive about going green again for The Avengers, but speaking to Cinematical he revealed that he's not so sure about another solo Hulk movie..

Cinematical spoke to Edward Norton at SXSW for the Tim Blake Nelson directed Leaves of Grass and he was less enthusiastic about a Hulk sequel than he was about the character appearing in The Avengers. When asked about the possibility of both his and Blake Nelson's(Who played The Leader..almost!) returning for a sequel to Louis letterier's movie Norton said..

"I don't think so. I think it has got more to do with what Marvel is doing. I get the sense they have this grand vision of unspooling a lot of their characters and then starting to put them together. I think they can only do so many at a time. Obviously, they are doing Iron Man 2 and then getting some of the new ones out."

Similar to what he said in relation to The Avengers. Ah well, as long as he comes back for that. An Incredible Hulk sequel would have been nice, but I can live without it in the build up to The Avengers.

Cinematical's full interview with Norton is to follow so we may hear some more on the subject soon anyway.

UPDATE: Norton reiterated his doubts about a Hulk sequel to MTV, as well as confirming that Hulk(At least Banner played by Norton) will not cameo in either Thor or Captain America..

After Incredible Hulk's poor earning it doesnt come as a shock. A sequel would have been so great. Looking forward to Hulk in Avengers.

NORTON's full of sh1T!

Just guessing.

Once the AVENGERS is out, there will be a sequel sometime after!

MARVEL ain't gonna just throw away the HULK lol.

Why the H8 for ANG LEE? He's hardly to blame for THE INCREDIBLE HULK box office?

By the way i liked both HULK movies! (Minus the giant POODLE lol).

@HellenKeller: SERIOUSLY!!!

@Tea: I also blame Lee. Edward Norton is the man. I also blame the guy who pissed of Norton to the point where he hardly promoted the movie except with this:

@Ror: lol! Aw man that was really bad!

@Charbelelnasr: I really hope so.

I can also live without a sequel to TIH, as long as we get Bruce in Avengers.

Damn, I loved The Incredible Hulk and it would've been great to see characters like The Leader and Doc Samson further developed! Fingers crossed they change their mind after The Avengers!

Doc Samson's casting was a [frick]ing brain fart in that movie by the way.

I liked Ang Lee's Hulk. I get that it didn't have too much action, and was very cerebral..big deal! It had great performances, a good story, some real emotion(unlike TIH) and aside from a couple of dodgy bits(Hulk Dogs) it just worked. I didn't think TIH was any better or worse..just a different take on it. In fact, like I always say, the perfect HUlk movie would be a combination of the best points from teh two of them.

ROR: I completely agree. I could never imagine Burrell making a decent Doc Samson which is why I'd much prefer to see Matthew Bomer play him! :)

DocSamson

I hated Ang Lee's Hulk though...everything from the story to the way in which it was filmed put me off it - a decent cast was the only thing that almost makes it watchable for me. If it's ever on TV though, I avoid it quicker than a Bryan Singer directed CBM! ;D

This is bullsh*t. TIH was an awesome movie and should definitely continue with a sequel after Avengers. Hell, we should of had a sequel already. The movie made a good 300 million based on a 150 million dollar budget. Besides, the story is of better quality than any of the 100 x-men movies that fox'll be greenlighting. Give The Hulk a chance.
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 3/14/2010, 11:57 AM
Come on now don't exaggerate! He was 15 foot at full height, And has been drawn that way in the comics before, AND, he jumps huge distances in the comics too.. didn't see that in TIH...
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 3/14/2010, 12:06 PM
Yep. Never above 15 foot..don't believe me go watch again. There is no definitive Hulk in the comics..just as there is no definitive anyone in comics! Every writer has a different take. Lee's take alienated the action crowd ..thats fine. They got their movie later on. Different strokes, different folks!

But I'm tellin ya, combine those movies ..winner. TIH was very good but it was about as deep as a puddle..some don't mind that, I did again..strokes!

There will be more hulk movies and in 3d to boot , but i dont think they need a star to do it , just get a no name cheap actor . The actor is not the star anyway the hulk is .
JoshWilding
JoshWilding - 3/14/2010, 12:12 PM
The height of Ang Lee's Hulk was ridiculous! I mean, this was probably him at his smallest...

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I'm sure he got even bigger than that by the end of the movie! Was Hulk ever that big in the comic book? Lee's movie was by no means the worst CBM I've seen (hello Fantastic Four) but it screwed up a lot of things and as tea said was probably a big reason why The Incredible Hulk didnt do that well!
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 3/14/2010, 12:15 PM
Nah, that was him at his biggest..15 foot. And he has been drawn that big in comics before..or at least not very far off. Granted mainly in the Ultimate universe..and I know you have read Old man Logan Josh..too big in that too?
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 3/14/2010, 12:48 PM
haha, I love this guy. This from a Smallville fan. Dude just suck a tail pipe and put the world out of its misery will ya? And seriously, I know you just love to display your ignorance at all times and thus can't be bothered..but you can use spell check you know? Its perfect for peons like you, you don't even have to focus on those really big, hard to spell words like "stupid".

Tea, agreed! She's gorgeous..oh and a better Betty Ross than Liv Tyler I might add! As was Sam Elliott over William Hurt as ol Thunderballs..but he was pretty good too I guess.

Aw... Now I'm sad. I loved TIH. Hell I watch it like once a week. I hope they change their minds. I feel if they did another Hulk movie it would be far more successful than the first one was.

Ya know i been thinking and it is funny , in the marvel universe there are superheroes coming out of the woodwork i think they wouldnt even need the avengers for hulk , shoot if he showed up somewhere it just couldnt be ignored . After a few min on tv there would be like 20 superheroes pooping out all over the place to try and stop him . Well if he was the evil hulk and just smashing stuff anyway . So hopefully he can get control of the hulk make him good and make a ton of movies and boat loads of money for marvel . Shoot they should do something like try to cure him but overdose him again from some rays so he can stay the hulk all the time then they dont even need to hire an actor lol .
Banner123
Banner123 - 3/14/2010, 2:21 PM
Bottom line, The Incredible Hulk was a great movie. Norton was absolutely perfect as a Banner, and it was tied into the Marvel movie universe perfectly! Hulk HAS to be in Avengers or it's pointless. Not sure of the route they will take(Ultimate or otherwise) but Norton needs to be in the Avengers. I can understand no individual sequel, but perhaps after Avengers when people realize how integral a part Hulk is to the whole story(again, if they go the route of the Avengers getting together to reel him in/control him).

On a side note in regards to the chronological order of the Marvel films, obviously the first three are Cap, IM, IM2, but has anyone else heard that Thor will come AFTER Hulk, and did anyone else here about the easter egg in which Thor 'falls' from the sky in TIH in the scene where Hulk is yelling at the lightning when he and Betty are in the cave. It comes just as they pan out and you can see the whole sky. An object DEFINITELY falls to the ground from the sky. I don't know, just sayin'. That would actually be pretty cool if it was the case...
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 3/14/2010, 2:40 PM
I always wondered about those supposed easter eggs. The Cap shield in the ice and stuff..I heard its all fan hope bull to be honest, but who knows. Maybe we should do an article on it..I'm sure all of those bits are available to watch on youtube.

Maybe if Hulk gets some good screen time in the Avengers then peoples interest may be peaked again and we get another Film after that!

actually in the interview he didn;t say hulk 2 would never happen, he only said that it would be firther down the line if it did..and didn;t kevin fiege confirm that there would be a hulk 2 after the avengers? Since after seeing the Hulk in that they'd be geared up for a Hulk 2? Well I still think a Hulk 2 will and SHOULD happen.

Speaking of TIH2 w..come and check my Incredible Hulk 2 Fan-Cast in Fan-Fic!!!! :D
