EDITORIAL: Should M.O.D.O.K ever be brought to the big screen?

He may be quite a popular character, but there is no doubt he is a hard one to translate to a live action medium. So should M.O.D.O.K ever be brought to the big screen? Hit the jump to find out what I think.

So recently, it has been revealed that AIM will have at least a cameo in Iron Man 3, which has brought up a conflict on whether M.O.D.O.K should ever be introduced into the Marvel Cinamatic Universe. My thoughts, well that depends on how he looks and acts. If he is the stupid, laughable character from the comics, then count me out! He would need to be more scary than funny. So a big, fat NO to this one!

If he looks like this, I might like him. The design is pretty cool, but I don't know. It depends on how he would act.

Now if he looked like this, yes, yes, yes! This would, in my opinion, be the best way to bring M.O.D.O.K to the big screen. He looks scary enough(and hopefully would act scary).

Now remember, this is how I feel he should look(and act).

Now to his story.

Comic Origin

George Tarleton is a technician for the organization Advanced Idea Mechanics (AIM). Having recently created the artifact the Cosmic Cube, the AIM scientists use advanced mutagenics to alter Tarleton and create the super intelligent MODOC (acronym for Mental Organism Designed Only for Computing) to study and improve the object. MODOC, however, becomes ambitious and kills its former master and takes control of AIM. Calling itself MODOK (Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing).

Considering the Cosmic Cube is now in Odin's possension, we can't go that route. So I started thinking and came to the thought of M.O.D.O.K's power source be one of the infinaty stones. Maybe AIM finds an infinaty stone and uses it to power their most powerful android, M.O.D.O.K. Then, when Thanos gets possesion of the Infinaty Gaunlet, he only needs one stone, M.O.D.O.K's. So, in the begining of Avengers 3, before he starts his attack, he breaks into the AIM headquarters, kills M.O.D.O.K, and gets the stone.

Now his introduction. Which movie should he be introduced in and should he be a main antagonist.

He should have a cameo in Iron Man 3 and be introduced fully in Captain America 2. If he cameos in Iron Man 3,they could make his creater Aldrich Killian. That could explain why AIM is in the movie.

There should be a war between AIM and a modern day Hydra, so Captain America has to stop it before their war destroys the United States and possibly the world. M.O.D.O.K should be leading AIM.

I don't know if my ideas are good, and don't care, this is why I'm not the directer. I'm just trying to get my point across that bringing M.O.D.O.K to the big screen wouldn't be bad if his story was altered a bit, his apperance changed...a lot, and his behaivour was changed from laughable to scary.

Marvel knows what it's doing. Maybe if they do do MODOK it would be similar to how they did Armin Zola.

I completely disagree. You guys need to grow your imagination. And trust (by now) Marvel Studios. Part of what makes them highly regarded by fans is that they bring fantastical characters to the big screen. The new Iron Patriot look James Rhodes is receiving is what Marvel does best. Bring characters we never expected to ever see on film, on film. I could list ever reason MODOK is great— maybe even make a Fan Fic and concept sketches— but I'll just say: wait for Captain America 2. You'll see him.

I would say no, but would be glad to be proven wrong by a good onscreen version of MODOK.

Captain America's first encounter with him is one of the most memorable stories for me, so...

Yes, please. A.I.M. and him for Captain America sequel.

They would have to change him a lot, because he really is a ridiculous character. I honestly don't understand why people like him.

no! hector hammond was a terrible character in last years green lantern, he looked odd & he isnt half as weird lookin as modok. Plus i grew up watching Modok as the Mandarins sidekick in the marvel action hour so i could not believe him as the main antagonist in any marvel movie!

MODOK would be a great antagonist for a movie. He is very cinEmatic. I mean hovering vs. walking. Non-human proportions. Also uses brain vs. brawn so lots of henchmen like a Bond villain.

Plus the movie makers don't really care what we all think. They are going to do what THEY want to do. Not someone that can't spell check.

I am pretty sure Zola is going to be in Cap 2. In the scene where they are escaping and the Red Skull blows up his own base and then meets Cap for the first time, Zola grabs his papers and you can very briefly see plans for the tv screen Zola. (Joe Johnston points it out on the audio commentary.) I think having both crazy looking villians in one film might be too much and the crazy spider legs looking drawing is way too Dr. Loveless from the "Wild, Wild West."

Plus I can't seem to get the image of the MODOK from the Super Hero Squad Show out of my head, with his ridiculous voice! Hahahaha!!

BTW - Your ideas for getting him into the story and making him work were all really good though! And if Marvel wants him in their movie, I trust them! :)

Yes MODOK should be in it. And no to all the people who don't understand that they CAN MAKE IT WORK.

It probably won't look much like it does on the printed page or the cartoon. But that doesn't mean they can't do it at all.

You clowns clap like trained seals in front of movies about mutants that have powers and physical deformities.

Well MODOK is a MUTATE with powers and a physical deformity. Whats' the big deal?

What's the problem?

The problem is that unlike the author of this article you lack the imagination to envision how to make it cool and believable in live action.

Well gratefully others are making those decisions.

I don't care for MODOK but I would love to see him brought to life on the big screen!! If done correctly, tht would be the scariest, most creepy thing ever!! The visual for tht would be sick!! If they do decide to use him, they have to treat him as if he's some kind of monster from a horror movie. If they do it tht way, it would be fantastic

I really do love the character but they'd have to approach it just right (as many have already said). His silly appearance and outdated style have turned him into a joke over the years in the comics but I'm sure they could find an appropriate compromise between his appearance in the comics and something that would be really visually interesting on the big screen. They should definitely spruce up the acronym (like they did for S.H.I.E.L.D.) and I think he'd probably do best as a secondary movie villain

I agree, if played more for a horror beat, a big floating cyborg head could be intimidating, and could be worthwhile on the big screen to the general non-MODOK knowing public.
