Iron Man 2 After-Credits Easter Egg Confirmed

Iron Man 2 After-Credits Easter Egg Confirmed

Collider sitting down with Iron Man 2 writer, Justin Theroux, he confirms that there will be something after the rolling credits. Check it Out!

It was rumored not too long ago, that there would be some mention or reference to Thor & Captain America after the rolling credits for the upcoming Iron Man 2. The original film's credits ended with Tony Stark(Robert Downey Jr.) meeting Director of SHIELD, Nick Fury(Samuel L. Jackson).

Now, Collider's Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub, got the chance to sit down with Iron Man 2's writer, Justin Theroux. And they discussed imrpov and the connection with all Marvel movies, and Theroux confirmed that "you might want to stay through the credits".

Collider: Well for things like Easter egg, is that something that you guys…is that a lot of improv or is that very scripted?

Justin Theroux: No, that’s got to be very specific because you can’t…if it was all of a sudden Tony opens a tool box and there’s a friggin’ hammer in there, you can’t bone the next guy. You know it’s not like…you want to create possibilities. So that’s a very thought out piece. If the shield all of a sudden just falls out of the sky, whatever it is, whatever that thing is, you want to be very specific about it. So…

I understand.

It’ll be apparent in a week and a half.

I may be wrong, but it seems a little redundant that Thor(Chris Hemsworth) and Captain America(Chris Evans) would show up physically, and I'm pretty sure they won't put anything in that wouldn't fit with a third installment. With that being said, be sure to stay after the credits for Iron Man 2, May 7th. While we wait, speculate on what could it be....

Fury will introduce Stark to Thor, and they'll be standing around Cap's body frozen in ice!

How about we find out SLJ isn't the real FURY and we get HANK & JAN in the line up!!!

@ mike

not if they show Cap frozen in ice while he's introducing Tony to Thor.

it wouldn't have to be corny. it would make perfect sense if, after Stark joins, Fury says something like, "meet your new teammate." or something. it would be the perfect way to introduce Thor's costume to everyone, AND to gain interest for the Thor movie with the general audience. i'm thinking thats why we haven't seen ANY pics of Thor's costume yet. they're saving it as a surprise in IM2.

it would be the perfect way to introduce Cap too, even though they didn't have an actor while filming. if he's frozen in ice, they don't have to show his face.

i'm sure hank and jan will be in Avengers. it would be weird if not.

If Chris Evans pops up as Cap after the credits, the ceiling is going to have a fresh new coat of white paint :)

But good, I expected another after-credits scene, can't wait to find out what it is.

@ tyler

i don't think we'll see Evans as Cap in it. IF Cap has a cameo, it would HAVE to be him frozen in ice. Evans wasn't even cast as Cap while they were filming IM2.

unless they were pulling the sheep over our eyes...

Anyone think it might have something to do with that shield Tony's got lying around? I dunno it's probably gonna have Thor in it, it'll be interesting to see if they put Cap in a block of ice. There's no way Evans will actually be in it when they haven't even started production on the movie. I imagine that they'd at least have to have a costume ready for them to put Evans in it. BUT if by some miracle they do have Evans in it, I'm probably gonna have a reaction similar to Tyler's.

Oh God! I'm so excited for this but I'm worried too because the people at my local theather sometimes forget about these things and they just don't show them and I'm scared it could happen in my screening :S /cool story bro

Anyway, I have the feeling that they'll show Thor for the first time because seriously, the lack of pictures is suspicious. Either way I'll be screaming and everything, I'm sure of it.

@mindform: I used to work at a theater, trust me if the movie is big enough and people there waiting during the credits, they'll show it.

@ReillyParker I hope so! :') Either way, I decided I'm going to ask first and even like, make them show it :P

I would ask for my money back if the credits didn't play after a movie. Isn't it illegal to not show everything in the movie? I might be wrong, but I think everyone has to show all the credits... that's why TV airings of movie play the credits so fast.. because they have to show them but what network is going to waste 5-10 minutes of airtime for credits? It's sort of like fine print, has to be there but doesn't have to be obvious.

I might be wrong but having cap frozen would destroy the time line. As far as i understand, the 1st movie had a hidden captain America shield on tony's desk. So, i'm assuming, cap was already un-frozen by then? I might be misinterpreting the whole storyline but Fury does in fact says: 'You think you're the only super hero in the world? - You have become part of a bigger universe... you just dont know it yet...'

So, the 'Avengers' already seem to exist during Iron Man 1, captain america was the 1st one and i'm assuming Tony somehow got hold of the shield? (i read that in the comics the cap shield was made of adamantium - xmen - so they might have to tweak a few bits due to fox owning the xmen stuff?)

Could the 'hidden' scene be the part in which people spotted an imprisoned Thor inside a prison cell? Maybe that scene occurs in the flying-S.H.I.E.L.D-station? I might be wrong, just thinking ;p

Plus, why does everyone think it's Avengers related? I hope there's an iron man 3 and that the easter egg will give us a hint to what's coming then :P

CDB: I know it's really REALLY unlikely, but if they managed to sneak in a little Evans as Cap in at the end, it would be f*cking awesome. And, again, the ceiling would have a fresh coat of new white paint :)

i want a mandarin easter egg! a thor cameo would be sick, but show us something about the mandarin to lead into a third film, we all know the ten rings play a role in im2.

vibranium is correct, maybe a black panther connection easter egg? lol, i know i know, crazy, but a guy can dream.
Scorpioxfactor
Scorpioxfactor - 4/24/2010, 5:16 PM
Look, Cap's Shield was created with a mix of Vibranium and Adamanitum and at that point, the creator of the shield must have gotten tired or it was late or something, because he fell alseep from working so exhaustingly on the shield. When he awoke, he discovered that there was a 3rd unknown element that mixed into the contents to make the shield as strong as it is. This is dating back to the 70's Cap book that I read this information. All my stuff is back in N.J., But I remember seeing the picture of the scientist sleeping on a console board while some mist I think or something combined with the other 2 things. I just waned to point that out for people who just guess what the shield is made of.

Now, let me point out something. If Cap's shield was made of just Adamantium, then Wolverine would've been able to cut it when he fought with our star spangled hero. Adamantium is strong, but can be cut by Adamantium. Virbranium is not as strong as Adamantium.

In closing, I did not mean to insult anyone at all. I am just pointing out things I know from reading Marvel. I want to be able to share the info with you so you can learn too. I could try to research this info, but like I said"It's over a 100 or more issues of Cap's magazine and I have no access to them right now, plus some X-Men lore. Thank you for your time.

The question is why is Fury putting together the Avenger Initiative? The Hulk presumably, but that will inform the content of the easter egg.

The other thing...the 2nd Marvel film in 2012 could be...Iron Man 3. Favreau will be done with Cowboys & Aliens by early/mid 2011...which means he could jump back into Iron Man and finish his trilogy. It would mean RDJ wears the armor for most of 2011.

Tea--If that's the Easter Egg? Then that's a crappy one. I have no F'ing clue what it could be, but how about they just show him rushing off to do something as Iron Man, that relates to the Avengers? That's always cool seeing the Hero rushing into another adventure.

Shazam--Great Video.

The after credits scene was obviously going to be there, but what's shown in the scene is pretty damn out there. I HOPE HOPE HOPE that they decide to show Thor at the end. It's too soon for Cap (at least it seems like it), but Thor is seriously open for all of this. It would be pretty amazing if our first look at Thor was after Iron Man 2.

@Scorpio i dont really know who the Pastor from 7th Heaven is, but i just googled and yea i think he is a bit old..Hank should be skinny..and like in late 20s or something..and they have to pick the right actor to make a right couple Hank and Janet.

Well whatever the easter egg is..we will find out soon..
Even if you don get to see the movie yourself iam sure someone here will let us know..

Thanks for correcting me on the materials of cap's shield.

Possible after-credit scene?:

Stark's sitting on his couch, the weather's stormy, as he's flipping through the channels on his tv. Onto the news they show the same clip captured by the two guys with their mobile phone in the incredible hulk.

'How's that for a challenge?' say's nick fury from the shadows.

@wolverinesfury It wouldnt be the same if they just give it to us right away. its the thoughts that go through you when your waiting and the excitement youre buidling towards it (at least thats how i feel lol)

@Bomblu not quite sure about said scenario but the clip you mentioned would be cool seeing again

I really hope that it's something Thor related - the reveal of the costume or something would not only be awesome but would hopefully gain the interest of the non-comic book reading fans as well!

@ bomblu

In Incredible Hulk, STARK tells General Ross that they're "putting together a team." which means that the Avengers aren't formed yet.

The shield was in Iron Man as an easter egg. In the comic that came out with the Iron Man DVD, it explains that Tony's father made Cap's shield (in the movie universe). this is something that doesn't make too much sense though because the one in Iron Man is circular. In WWII Cap's shield was always the triangular one. so unless they're just foregoing the triangular shield, and making Cap's shield round during WWII, then it doesn't make any sense. so until they make a reference to Iron Man having Cap's shield in the movie, i wouldn't put too much stock in it. it could easily have just been something that doesn't have anything to do with anything.

in either case, the Avengers are NOT formed yet, and the proof is in Incredible Hulk.
