On Iron Man 3.
"I think Shane Black was the perfect guy for [Iron Man 3] because it's so funny, it's so Shane but I think people associate him with Snark and he's actually a very heartfelt storyteller. This is the next thing that needed to be said about Tony Stark. [The film's] not just coasting on goodwill, [Shane's] really digging in there, it's very much his movie and I love it."

On whether Joss feels any pressure heading into Phase II.
"Honestly, it's the best kind of feeling. I read the script [for Iron Man 3] and I just got scared. I was like, 'Oh, I gotta do better. I gotta up my game because Shane is really bringing it.' (sic) Everything [Marvel] is doing for Phase II is exciting to me but this was the furthest along when I jumped back in [to begin work on Avengers 2] and I really thoughy, 'Wow, [Shane's] really taken it to another level.' He and Robert, like they did in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, they work together amazingly."

Based on Warren Ellis' Extremis storyline and following the box-office shattering events of Marvel's The Avengers, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) has become the target of global terrorist The Mandarin (Sir Ben Kingsley) who has secretly been the mastermind behind most of the tragedies in Tony's life. Isolated from his fellow Avengers, Tony will have to devise his most advanced armor yet if he hopes to save the woman he loves, Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow). Standing beside Tony as he takes on Mandarin's villainous allies and Ten Rings subordinates will be War Machine James Rhodey (Don Cheadle) who was conspicuously absent during the Chituari invasion in New York. Based on a screenplay by Shane Black (Lethal Weapon, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) and Drew Pearce (Godzilla, Sherlock Holmes 3).
