Marvel To Release Two Versions Of IRON MAN 3

It seems fans will have an extra version of Marvel's upcoming Iron Man threequel to track down as the studio plan to release a "China only" cut of the film, which might contain some significantly different elements. Read on for the statement in full..

When Iron Man 3 is released in China on May 3rd, they'll be seeing a different version of the movie. We don't know just HOW different, but the statement below reveals that the Chinese cut will feature an appearance by the lovely Fan Bingbing (who will also play Blink in X-Men: DOFP) and some "specially prepared" bonus footage.

Marvel Studios and DMG announced that a Chinese version of Iron Man 3 will be released in China on a date to be announced in the near future. DMG, a Chinese media and entertainment company, collaborated with Marvel Studios on the Chinese elements in the film, and is marketing and distributing the film in China. While Marvel and DMG have decided not to apply for co-production status in China, the film includes significant Chinese elements. Renowned Chinese actor Wang Xueqi will appear in both the studio’s Chinese version of the film and in its international and domestic US version. Both versions of the film include Iron Man 3 footage filmed in Beijing in December. The Chinese version of the film will also feature a special appearance of China’s top actress, Fan Bingbing, and will offer specially prepared bonus footage made exclusively for the Chinese audience. Marvel Studios’ experience working on this film with Fan Bingbing and Wang Xueqi and in shooting in China has been very positive and has created a springboard for future collaboration with China’s talented stars and its growing film and television industry. The Iron Man cast and filmmakers look forward to bringing Iron Man back to China.

I wouldn't expect any particularly big changes plot wise, just a few extra scenes of Stark doing stuff in China most likely; but you never know. It should be interesting when we can eventually compare both versions.

LOL.. This is REALLY becoming like a comic book..or it could just be something small like that scene in POTC where in one version they say "Welcome to Singapore" and in the Asian version it says something else

I wouldn't be too worried. Everyone is going to find out what the bonus scenes are from people who see it in China. Plus there will be plenty of articles on it later.

Yes they will have a special Chinese communist government approved version.

They can't have anything in their films that contradict their state propaganda.

Oh trust me @suspense there is a storm brewing, example: Chiense guy seeking refuge at the American embassy. There has to be some sort of uprising.

@DrDoom It has nothing to do with quality. China edits almost every international film before releasing in their county to make sure that it does not contradict their propaganda.

It is about information and entertainment control. China is a communist controlled government.

Good, I don't care to see the Chinese propaganda scenes. It's probably an alternate version of his Extremis injection or whatever.

This is disappointing. Marvel has opened the door to allowing themselves to submit to government censorship in return for government funding. As this article says, what is done to IM3 will be minor, insignificant to the story and will appear harmless. But the next time, and every time after that, getting funds from China will result in a greater exertion of influence by the government there. Just as twitter has accepted Russia's demands to censor it, and Facebook has as well. Once the door is open, our own government will begin to do the same in its funding of the arts. Marvel has submitted to eventually being a government propaganda tool, as many studios have or soon will. I saw this coming when they bent over to be politically correct on how the mandarin is portrayed and dropped to their knees for the funding and filming access in china.
oh well...maybe North Korea can put all back the way it ought to be.
CaptainAmerica31
CaptainAmerica31 - 3/29/2013, 12:16 PM
I wouldn't call it evil politics. Just communism lol, they censor anything they don't like. For example if I went to china and wave a sign saying I hated the Chinese government I would be arrested. It's just the form of government

The aditional scenes better be included on the DVD/Blu-Ray!

It's bad enough that the Theatrical Version of The Avengers here in Brazil didn't include neither the Shawarma scene NOR the Helicarrier reveal scene!
