Terrence Howard Looks Back On IRON MAN And Shares His Thoughts On Being Fired By Marvel

We've heard from Terrence Howard numerous times about him being fired by Marvel Studios after playing Colonel James Rhodes in 2008's Iron Man, but he talks here in detail about deciding not to seek revenge against the studio and the impact that not returning for the sequel had on his career.

Marvel Studios may have a good reputation when it comes to pleasing fans, but they're also known for being quite ruthless when it comes to the actors who work for them. Both Ed Norton and Mickey Rourke have vowed never to work with them again, while it was recently rumoured that they had forced Natalie Portman to reprise the role of Jane Foster in Thor: The Dark World. When Terrence Howard demanded a bigger paycheck for Iron Man 2, the studio replaced him with Don Cheadle (which some would argue is perfectly understandable). It was also thought that director Jon Favreau wasn't happy with his performances. Regardless, when Desde Hollywood caught up with Howard at a junket for Dead Man Down, they asked the actor for his thoughts on the Iron Man franchise.

"It's similar to what happens with my character in this movie: He had lost a lot. Thought he was maintaining and holding his ground. All the things he was building his future on was not going to sustain him. Unfortunately he went after and tried to seek his own revenge.

I had a decision to make. I could have sought revenge against Marvel and all. But I learned something in life. You know?

That everything is controlled by this wave particle theory. Often times when we are moving up in this wave field we are looking up. But the moment that we are reaching the descent we are still looking up. Guess what: we are falling.

But if you turn and orient yourself in the direction that you are going in, you will gain momentum and a great deal of inertia so you reflect off the valley and you miss the next two or three downward falls.

I love the fact that Iron Man put me on a world stage and tested my strength of character. Because I chose not to fight back, not to deal with the allegations, but to continue forward and do what I had to do.

I had to start all over: went from making $6 million a movie, back to $60 thousand a movie. But as long as you don't give up you are able... I'll make $20 million soon. Because I have learned the lessons of yesterday."

His career has gone in the sh@t$er completely! I'm sure he is regretting his decisions. Makes it in mainstream Hollywood and them demands money should taken the Samuel L route and just make the movies don't let the movies make you (an a$$hole)

much better rhodey than cheadle. howards rhodey is like a childhood friend, cheadles rhodey is some random military dude you do shots with. Mother[frick]er played his hand too soon... was freshly oscar nominated, first to sign on iron man, had the highest pay, used his oscar buzz to hype the movie... bitch thought he was the star, rdj checked him on that shit.

at least he aint soo much of an arrogant douche anymore, that humble pie did him some good.

Don Cheadle is a great actor. Terrance Howard is a great actor. I think that Howard was the better Rhodey. Although Cheadle is pretty great too.

Terrence Howard comes off as an asshole to me. I'm glad they replaced him. Cheadle's a better actor anyway.

BAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I'm srr-HAHAHA *clears throat, wipes tears from eyes*

I'm sorry, but WTF. He made a bad judgement call asking for more money and got dropped from the project. End of story. No wave particles and there's really no way to "get revenge" on Marvel in his case. He got fired for asking too much with another perfectly good actor who would do the job cheaper. It's basic business, and he's making himself look ignorant with this hocus pocus mumbo jumbo and revenge talk.

Portman's the same story. Oh they held me to my legally binding agreement and paying me handsomely for it. Norton was an egotistical douche who thinks he's all that and got a rude awakening.

Marvel's not being cruel to actors... they are running a business. Actors need to quit bitching and enjoy those ridiculously high paychecks. IMO

Terrance Howard did a way better job as Rhodey. Maybe Don Cheadle is a good actor but i never really saw Rhodey in him. Maybe the main reason was that he was so serious that I was scared he would come right out of the movie and slap the shit of me. xD

It's not the same thing with Norton. The guy who [frick]ed this up is not working in Marvel anymore

Wasn't Howard the highest paid actor in the first Iron man? There's no way they were gonna pay him more than RDJ in the second, so when he demanded more the budget was stretched too thin.

Marvel Studios is still relatively young. After they grow a bit more then they can start forking over more cash to big actors if they need too.

With Portman case was obvious. She won the Oscar, so the price went up

Terrence might have had a case had he been playing Iron Man himself, but secondary characters are always replaced with other actors without sacrificing the quality of the overall film. IMO Maggie Gyllenhall's Rachel Dawes was better than Katie Holmes, despite people complaining she wasn't as pretty as Katie Holmes she adequately portrayed the emotional range the character needed to reach

Howard got dropped, Norton got dropped, sure. We know those stories. They were being difficult and got replaced.
Anyone else wondering what Mickey Rourke's deal is?

He did his movie and was done. What possibly could've happened?

Rourke's thing was IM2 had some negative feedback and Marvel pawned some of it off on Rourke.

I thought Cheadle was more Rhoedy like. Rhoedy is very much a military man, something Cheadle brings to the role. Howard didn't do that as much.
