Before you take a look at the wonderful Dredd concept art below I really wanted to reach out to the Comic Book Movie community. I want to urge you to go and see this movie, and to tell your friends that they too should go and see this movie. Presently the film is not fairing well at the box office, and to me that is bizarre. We finally have an R-rated movie based on a beloved comic book, that is praised by critics, yet it's suffering at the box office? If you want Hollywood to believe that people actually want to see films of this nature, you have to get off your butts and see it. Spread the word, it's vital!

If you don't, then you can expect more kid friendly versions of your favorite comic books. I still cringe when I see "Fantastic Four" and the Dalmatian on the firetruck covers it's eyes with it's paws. I for the love of all that is holy don't want any more of that. Dredd needs our help people and I say we chip in.

Neil Miller - My role as DREDD vfx Art Director began with producing pre- production art work directly from script, and working right through the whole production to the very last vfx 'final' on the film. In that time i was also responsible for building and supervising the in house art dept and matte painting crew. It was a fantastic opportunity to explore designs, pretty much with a blank canvas. The designs, concepts and finished vfx shots shown here are a selection of the work that I produced over a two year period. Much of the work shows the progression of early design, right through to finished VFX on some of the main establishing shots in the film. These include the MEGA CITY ONE designs, including Peach Trees, and Peach Trees (inner) ATRIUM.

Other key designs shown here are some exploration of sequence look-dev, including Anderson esp/inside head. The subtle slow mo skin iridescence; some Dredd props, the detailing of a robotic eye, and also the new DREDD eagle logo which is used throughout the film, but is most visible large in the end titles.

The future America is an irradiated waste land. On its East Coast, running from Boston to Washington DC, lies Mega City One- a vast, violent metropolis where criminals rule the chaotic streets. The only force of order lies with the urban cops called “Judges” who possess the combined powers of judge, jury and instant executioner. Known and feared throughout the city, Dredd (Karl Urban) is the ultimate Judge, challenged with ridding the city of its latest scourge – a dangerous drug epidemic that has users of “Slo-Mo” experiencing reality at a fraction of its normal speed.

During a routine day on the job, Dredd is assigned to train and evaluate Cassandra Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), a rookie with powerful psychic abilities thanks to a genetic mutation. A heinous crime calls them to a neighborhood where fellow Judges rarely dare to venture- a 200 story vertical slum controlled by prostitute turned drug lord Ma-Ma (Lena Headey) and her ruthless clan. When they capture one of the clan’s inner circle, Ma-Ma overtakes the compound’s control center and wages a dirty, vicious war against the Judges that proves she will stop at nothing to protect her empire. With the body count climbing and no way out, Dredd and Anderson must confront the odds and engage in the relentless battle for their survival.

The film opens in 3D September 21st.

Dredd was awesome! Alex Garland stayed true to the Dredd comics. It was dark, and brutal. Everybody should go see Dredd. BTW, Fantastic Four was a great movie. I'm a die hard Fantastic Four fan so I will always defend the movie. The movie wasn't that bad. *SIGH*

Cool stuffs. I've always been a supporter of this movie from day one; but, sadly, the movie hasn't been released yet, in here.

jimpinto24: The Fantastic Four is my favorite superhero team of all, and Dr. Doom is my favorite villain ever; but, I think the movies are quite a disgrace. :P Each to his own, though...

There are a lot of [frick]ing idiots in America and you can find most of them question why everyone isn't going to see Dredd. The country is still reeling from a violent attack on movie goers in a cinema and they think going to see one of the most simple-minded over the top violent movies of all recent years is what everyone will find naturally appealing?

For Crissakes, there are American getting killed because another idiot wanted to piss off an entire Religious following with some dumb amateur film and seriously, you think this kind of movie is what people should choose for their weekend viewing?

Bearing in mind that only psychopaths find real pleasure in watching or performing violence, what makes everyone here think that a movie that literally glorifies such a thing in extreme levels to the point of overkill, is going to compel the average rational thinking, empathic cinema-joe to part with his/her hard earned cash and sit through this kind of movie.

Even the comic isn't this excessive with violence, this movie didn't get killed by marketing it basically killed itself by choosing to go over the top with it R-rated gore. This is a largely male only appeal movie and for the level of violence we're talking psychopath/retard area level male too!

I watched this film, it was a better version of Dredd than Stallone but it isn't something I'd recommend to a vast majority of people I know. Its zero surprise to me that it isn't making box office history let alone breaking even at this point. If they went PG-13 it would have made some decent box office.

Unbelievable..CeeJay wants every action film diluted to suit the tastes of the vast majority of movie goers.

Screw that! Women can have their rom-coms & basic chick-flicks & kids can have their animated features..but dammit,c'mon guys let's support some R-rated violent action films!

Anyone who thinks that violent movies, video games, etc. really causes others to become violent themselves are brain dead.
If that were true then crime & murder would be waaay more widespread.

Movies are escapism entertainment & I for one think that without the availability to see R-rated violence, sex & adult themed material there would be much more criminal activity.

DREDD is a badass film & by association, seeing the film makes you also a badass. Ha!

Ironically enough just being a consumer means I have way more input and say over anyone involved in making a movie... because... well you guessed it, I pay your bills by seeing stuff. No consumer = No stuck up self important cinematographer students.

That said, I didn't see glorified violence when i saw this movie. I saw a hardened hero in a world where everything is stacked against him overcome extreme adversity. I had real suspense and was even rewarded with some great "justice". I feel like I got to visually see a day in the life of Judge Dredd and I left feeling extatic and seriously hoping to see more.

Great movie, definitely worth the price of 3D or at least a matine

This is why they do not make rated R comic movies very often. Profits are cut in half.
It is a really good film but they are not gonna make much moola with it.

Grow the [frick] up!!! I will see the movie because" I WANT TO!!! "Not because of some review, or a critic who got paid to say "it's awesome & mind blowing". Every movie is not for everybody, keep an open mind, & if you thought the movie was soooo violent why go see it in the first place??? I saw the trailer & commercials they did not try to hide the violence, so if your not into it why pay to see it?

I have no doudt that after all is said and done that Dredd will in the end reach the coveted status of cult film like The Thing or Big Trouble in Little China. I also have no doubt that Weenee just may be the insider he says he is and responsible for the usual dumbed down product that the rest of us more sophisticated viewers complain about saw often ( this is the guy who is heralding the Stallone Judge Dredd movie over the this new cinematic achievement? Are you kidding? Talk about giving up your s#!t ). He sounds like one of those tools in the industry that takes away creative control of someone's vision and craps it up. In other words he's exactly that guy we all hate or at least he's trying his best to portray him. Something more than he's telling us is going on here because his irrational review of Dredd simply makes no sense. Its like Weenee has an axe to grind or something I don't know but its interesting behavior study on a psychological perspective. If he is everything he claims to be then what a massive ego he has and what a atypical deuche-bag
