IM Global has posted the still of Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) that was previously-seen on The Hollywood Reporters' promotional material for the Cannes Film Festival. While the Official Dredd Facebook page has added information to their plot outline. Lastly, Fugitive Studios has posted an image with the official logos of films that they have worked on and included a low-resolution image of the Dredd logo.

The future America is an irradiated waste land. On its East Coast, running from Boston to Washington DC, lies Mega City One- a vast, violent metropolis where criminals rule the chaotic streets. The only force of order lies with the urban cops called “Judges” who possess the combined powers of judge, jury and instant executioner. Known and feared throughout the city, Dredd (Karl Urban) is the ultimate Judge, challenged with ridding the city of its latest scourge – a dangerous drug epidemic that has users of “Slo-Mo” experiencing reality at a fraction of its normal speed.

During a routine day on the job, Dredd is assigned to train and evaluate Cassandra Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), a rookie with powerful psychic abilities thanks to a genetic mutation. A heinous crime calls them to a neighborhood where fellow Judges rarely dare to venture- a 200 story vertical slum controlled by prostitute turned drug lord Ma-Ma (Lena Headey) and her ruthless clan. When they capture one of the clan’s inner circle, Ma-Ma overtakes the compound’s control center and wages a dirty, vicious war against the Judges that proves she will stop at nothing to protect her empire. With the body count climbing and no way out, Dredd and Anderson must confront the odds and engage in the relentless battle for their survival.

The endlessly inventive mind of writer Alex Garland and director Pete Travis bring DREDD to life as a futuristic neo-noir action film. Filmed in 3D with stunning slow motion photography sequences, the film returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra's revered comic strip.

I would very much like to see a trailer, because I'm still not convinced. I want this movie to be good, but I haven't seen anything impressive. Also, hello. I'm new here. Had this account for a while, but never used it. Mostly used to lurk as a guest.

Is that..... Can it be?!

The OFFICIAL release of a PREVIOUSLY RELEASED IMAGE THOUGHT TO BE AN OFFICIAL "POSTER", now VERIFIED as a still from the actual film.

Huh. Who would've thunk it? This guy. Right here. Ugh. You can't see it, but I'm pointing at myself.

@INSTANTJUSTICE

yes it was written before the Raid. but the Raid is released before Dredd. people might compare the two movies.

To avoid a direct connection with the first film. Plus, quite a lot of IM Global's films are short titles (IM Global are co-producers of DREDD). IM GLobal films with short titles:

Safe

Blood

Shelter

Skyline

Husk

Prowl

so Dredd as a title is carrying on the tradition. I'm not sure 'Dredd' is such a good title. Fine for people aware of the character, but a bit vague for people unaware of the character. I think the title should have included JUDGE - that's what Dredd is - a Judge of Mega-City 1. Anyway, they've gone with 'DREDD' so a bit late to worry about it now. If the trailer shows that Dredd is a JUDGE and explains what JUDGES actually do then people should understand what DREDD means. :)

Jackie Chan plays Dredd in the new film so I can sort of see a connection with The Raid.

@INSTANTJUSTICE

im talking about the theme is similar. The Raid involved cops raiding a 200 story building that has drug dealers and hooker just like the new Dredd film.

@dreddhead123

they cant really call it Judge Dredd cause of the failer of the first movie.

"m talking about the theme is similar. The Raid involved cops raiding a 200 story building that has drug dealers and hooker just like the new Dredd film."

Cos the screenwriter is Alex Garland, not John Wagner. I doubt Mr Garland has much imagination but the success of Dredd may not come down to its imagination. If it delivers the hardcore action it will have done its job. But as a plot it's rather pedestrian and lacking so much of the stuff John Wagner created in 2000AD comic.

Seriously, I'm not asking for a masterpiece here. Just give us something coherant and watchable and I'll be happy. Something more in the range of The Crow, HellBoy and ROBOCOP, and not so much like PRIEST, WAR ZONE and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.
