Ben Affleck Reportedly Claims That He Was Never Asked To Direct JUSTICE LEAGUE

Despite already denying reports that he is Warner Bros. frontrunner to helm Justice League, the director has apparently completely dismissed the rumours that he was ever even asked at the Toronto Film Festival yesterday.

Not too long ago, fans finally had something to get excited about after Variety reported that Ben Affleck (The Town, Argo) was, "expected to discuss [Justice League] with studio brass in the coming days". Rival site Deadline were quick to call it out as being "bullshit" because, "Affleck’s reps stated that it was not going to happen with him." They too mentioned that he would consider a meeting, but it wasn't until Affleck took himself out of the running ("I'm not working on the Justice League. One of the problems with entertainment web sites is that they need to fill pages, and that’s how rumours get started. Justice League sounds really exciting, but it’s not something I’m working on.") that it seemed like those initial reports really were little more than "bullshit".

Ben Affleck confirmed two things at the Toronto International Film Festival Saturday afternoon. He’s not directing the all-star superhero flick Justice League; he was never asked.

There are currently no specific quotes from the actor, although the excerpt above from a report by O.Canada.com certainly seems like definitive proof that he won't be helming DC Comics' highly anticipated superhero ensemble. Of course, it could just be that he's in very early talks with the studio and wants to keep the focus on Argo (already touted by some as an Oscar contender), but if he's never even been asked, it looks like we're just going to have to wait and see who will bring Justice League to the big screen.

The only rumour that makes sense is the Wachowski's.

I'm still pulling for Peter Jackson though.

Justice League.

Directed by Peter Jackson.

Sounds good doesn't it?

Honestly, I think Justice League needs to be pushed back further, I'm really worried that WB are just rushing this out to coincide with the hype surrounding The Avengers (or, more specifically, the eventual sequel) without learning from Marvel's methods. WB need to spend more time familiarising audiences with the eventual League members with individual movies. Man of Steel can be the start of that process, but they can't just rush out a Justice League film. Characters like Wonder Woman, The Flash, etc, need to be introduced to audiences, or else no one outside the comic book fandom will give a shit about the film.
Hell, even Green Lantern needs a reboot to properly introduce him to audiences properly, and get rid of the horrible memories of the 2011 version before he can be used in the Justice League movie.

The only one they might get away with introducing in the actual film is Batman, because audiences already know who he is. But even then, it'd be wise to wait until after the Batman reboot so audiences are familiar with the new version of the character.

Plus, by pushing it back, it gives them time to really perfect the script, and they shouldn't try to capitalise on the Avengers either, or audiences will simply dismiss the Justice League as a rip-off.

Sometimes it's complete bullshit, and sometimes it's politics and spin. It could be like picking a vice-presidential candidate... You don't want your public choice to say no. So you feel out the options and only "offer" it to your first choice who will actually say yes. So the story that they wanted him could be true, and they could have officially met with him about other things and felt him out for the JLA job while he was there. So he could be playing semantics to say that they never had a meeting "about" it, thus keeping good working relations with the studio while leaving the eventual choice free to believe they were the Studio's first choice.

Or it could have all been made up... Or any level in-between.

I hope WB/DC do not hire Ben Affleck to helm the JL movie. Come on WB, justt hire JJ Abrams, or Peter Jackson to helm the JL movie.

They should sign someone this year, if they plan to do a great job and to release it on 2015.

but.... Avengers 2 and Justice League the same year?

seems unlikely. maybe 2016

JJ abrams would be a great choice as well but i would prefer him for a more cosmic Marvel film because of his affinity for sci-fi

And whoever does get the the call... leave out Aquaman i mean really. An Aquaman solo flm has potential if set entirely in Atlantis but hes is just so overshadowed power/personality wise by EVERYONE else. Think of the end of Avengrs but wth the JL, what is he going to do? At least the lower power level people worked together and Cap was barking orders most of the time. Is Arthur just gong to walk around and hit stuff?

I dont even know why anyone is commenting on this thread, its utterly ridiculious.

1. I already knew that BEN wasnt going to direct nor star in JL.
2. Everyone who is cussing out DC/WB saying "just get SNYDER", even though i know he will deliver lets just see what MOS turns out to be (WHICH I KNOW IT WILL PUT BITCHES IN THEIR PLACE) but still be patient.

No need for them to feel they have to catch up with Marvel or some shit, WHO CARES. Nobody says that to IAMGE or DARK HORSE, why say it to DC.

@Ha1frican

The new 52 Aquaman shows ton of potential to contribute. Can take bullets, jump extremely high, super powerful trident, super strength not to mention the HUGE amount of damage he can inflict if he is near water.

Thinking of it now, he is way more powerful than Captain America.

I understand everyone's want a lead up but this could work if the vision is right. Just make the damn movie and start it with a huge cinematic fight scene with everyone on the league having a chance to show there stuff. I recommend a 300 or Immortals cinematography.

You don't need introductions if it's a good movie. Watchman anyone? Nobody I mean nobody had any idea who any of them are but fans. It worked though. Brief introductions on each through out and just keep he flow right.

It will work if the directors vision is right.

Btw, We dodged a bullet not having Affleck

Bet the film will never happen. And if it does it has the potential to be Green Lantern times 1000. Please no.

Ok, fine! Now pick up the Wachowskis or JJ Abrams, please. No wait, i've a better idea: wait at least 8 years more for a JL movie.

And can we please kick Cyborg out of the Justice League and put Martian Manhunter back in? He's in the Teen Titans. If they really needed a black character they should've just used Black Lightning.
