David Goyer Talks JUSTICE LEAGUE; Confirms That It Will Feature A NEW Batman

Contrary to reports that Christian Bale will reprise the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman, screenwriter David Goyer confirms that the DC Cinematic Universe introduced in Man of Steel does indeed feature a new Caped Crusader. He also shares his thoughts on the build-up to Justice League.

Talking to Hey U Guys, Man of Steel screenwriter David Goyer has confirmed that the DC Cinematic Universe will indeed feature a new Batman. Many had expected this to be the case as we have heard repeatedly that Christopher Nolan's trilogy was set in its own universe, but it was reported not too long ago that Warner Bros. wanted Christian Bale to return. Obviously not! "Zack has said that Bruce Wayne exists in this universe," said Goyer. "It would be a different Bruce Wayne from Chris’ [Nolan] Dark Knight trilogy, and it would be disingenuous to say that Zack and I haven’t had various conversations on set, around ‘what if’ and ‘moving forward’. That having been said, it’s all going to depend on the next few weeks. Warner Bros has hopes that there will be more Man Of Steel films, and that this will be the beginning of a shared universe. We could meet Batman, or Wonder Woman, or the Justice League in these movies. But they all hinge on box office reception. If that happens, I would be happy, and nervous, to dive in."

As for Justice League, Goyer confessed that the studio has failed in their attempts to bring the superhero team to the big screen in recent years, but that they are now finally on the right track to making that movie a reality. However, he once again confirmed that it all depends on how well Man of Steel ends up performing at the box office! "They’re hoping that the film does well, but god forbid it doesn’t, things will change. I don’t know how many different iterations of Justice League they’ve tried to mount over the last decade or so. But for one reason or another they haven’t happened. I think Warner Bros has seen – and Chris deserves the biggest credit for this – that we were able to revitalise Batman and put it into the first billion dollar superhero film. And they’re hoping that Superman will be revistalised as well. And if we can do Batman and Superman, then maybe we can move on to Wonder Woman, and The Flash, and characters like that." So much pressure from one movie. Just give all the properties back to DC and let them make the movies.

I hope this movie will be a box-office success. The movie is great, the critics don't know what they are talking about. Having said that I hope they bring in Jonathan Nolan along with David Goyer to write the script.

I never much cared for Nolan's batman, so I had reservations about this movie....,but it was freakin awesome!!!

DC movies are officially on the playing field with marvel movies

@luminus That's now how it works, Warner Bros owns DC comics, the whole thing, they can't give rights back, because they belong to WB

Yeah, there will be comparisons between The Avengers and Justice League... mostly between the DC and Marvel trolls measuring dicks. Those of us that really want both will just have to live with it.

Anyway, a new Batman was already obvious. Introduce him in JL and save the reboot for later. I'm 22 and there's been seven Batman films in my lifetime. Everyone and their momma should know his story by now. WW is a MUST beforehand though. Flash too.

Besides, WB should attract good directors. They really should get Darren Aronofsky for the Batman reboot.

It's going to take a while but I think it's going to happen. I don't think Wonder Woman and The Flash will be billion dollar properties but in order to get The Justice League off the ground they should do well respectively.

I remain on the fence about this movie and honestly, I'm really hoping for a DCCU and I'm loving that people on here are excited and are happy that they got their Superman movie.

"There's very little humor or joy in this Superman story, and not enough character development for us really to care once the big-budget pyrotechnics are under way."

- Richard Roeper

Roeper is my go to critic despite the fact I always go in with an open mind of my own but, if he doesn't like it then I'm gonna be on the fence for a while. If it's my loss then so be it.

I'm nervous about you diving in too, Goyer.

Get some help from a better screenwriter to help you out, man please, don't be proud. Hone your craft but use them training wheels first. Gotta crawl before you walk brah!

Aside from that, I'm Eff'n ready!!!

This Super Action CBM WILL rake in da dough!

Here is hoping the sequel and future DC films improve more in the storytelling aspects as well.

Just saw MOS and it was phenomenal! There's no doubt in my mind that this ranks in my top 5 favorite CBMs. It will be a success, everyone left the theater with positive reactions and good things to say about it. Definitely worth repeat views. I think I really only had 1 gripe with it but even so it worked well with the movie (I won't spoil it for others). Best movie this year so far!

Absolutely Outstanding. Like the review said- This film Delivers. It sets up the shared universe so perfectly.

Man of Steel- The King is Back. Won't talk about it to much but EPIC

Good Stuff. I couldn't afford to buy a fancy cape from wal mart but I used my crusty red towel as a cape. Aside from turning on the honeys it also came in handy for other reasons.

Cause I was simentanously crapping myself and jizzing myself from the Sheer awesomeness of the film.

@tevil your joking right ? DC movies set the playing field and marvel still hasn't caught up! Dark knight trilogy owns the mcu universe and you can add mos to that soon!

Armie Hammer or however you spell his name, for new Batman. He has the voice, rich billionare swagger, the looks and he is already playing such a iconic figure in The Lone Ranger; this would be easy for him.

My only problem with a new batman is this: I'll only keep thinking to myself that I miss Bale. I wish they could figure out a way to make it work. I'd be down even for just an actor recast and use the same universe, it's just too cool.

Also...just got out of the Man of Steel premier in IMAX.
All I have to say is wow...amazing..

Just got home. Man of Steel was AWESOME!! Can't wait to see it again. Action was crazy1! Cast was great!! Don't know if this is considered a spoiler but...........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................Though never mentioned by name, A LOT of the Kryptonian tech sure reminded me of Braniac!! Thinking Lex will recover said tech and unleash something that he just doesn't fully comprehend, regardless of that 12th level intellect. Just Fanboy dreams, but I can fantasize. Lol.

I'm glad it's finally happening but its sad that we're still only at the point of DC getting a cinematic universe in this day and age. The surprise around the MOS success is baffling because the top thing on the list should be:

1. GET SUPERMAN RIGHT

This film should be a given in everyone's mind at DC/WB - if you cant do this then pack up and go home. Its everything else that now needs to push on because never did i think that the success of superman, thats right, SUPERMAN, would be gauged by if it could go toe to toe with (of all characters) IRON MAN. What a rediculous situation CBM fans have found themselves in because people would have laughed in your face had you said that a decade ago. Here's hoping for some solid CBM universes and the hope that a decade from now we'll be laughing looking back at the fact that a crossover seemed like a faint dream

Just got back from Man of Steel. OH MY GAWD THE ACTION WAS SO DAMN EPIC. I AM IN LOVE WITH THE ACTRESS WHO PLAYS FAORA. SHE IS A SCENE STEALER AND SHE IS KICKING ASS AND TAKING NAMES.

The movie has flaws (Goyer is pretty hit or miss), but I had a damn good time. Probably one of my favorite movies of the year so far (#1 is The Place Beyond the Pines, which also deals with fathers and sons).
