David S. Goyer Is STILL "Not Sure" About A Possible JUSTICE LEAGUE Movie

In the following interview, screenwriter David S. Goyer reiterates Christopher Nolan's approach of creating a "cohesive universe" for Batman and Superman to exist separately in, and shares his thoughts on whether he would be interested in working on a Justice League movie.

"I don’t know, honestly. I go back and forth," Man of Steel screenwriter David S. Goyer told Collider when they visited the set of the movie in 2011 and asked him if he would be interested in working on Justice League. Of course, we have since heard that the success of Zack Snyder's reboot will more than likely decide the fate of that superhero ensemble becoming a reality, so the plan to continue making DC superhero movies where they each live in their own universes may be about to change. "I mean, I think that on Batman and Superman, Chris has taken a different approach. I love the Marvel films and they’re really fun, but he’s definitely taken a different approach so far, which is that each of these movies is its own cohesive universe and at least with Batman it seems to have worked out. So, I don’t know. I’m not sure. I think it would depend with who. This has been a dream experience, so it’s hard to imagine it getting better than this, maybe it could be." Unfortunately, we're unlikely to hear more about Justice League until the cast and crew start doing press for Man of Steel over the next few weeks. If this movie is indeed a success however, it seems fair to say that some sort of official announcement will be made at Comic Con and that THIS movie will indeed be Warner Bros.' Iron Man.

I get the feeling a justice league movie may NOT be in the works. As hype as I am for MoS I still am weary of WB's judgements. I won't believe anything until its official

I've been thinking, and there's no reason for Bale not to reprise Batman in a Justice League film. Batman in the comics can have difficulty dealing with street-level criminals in his own book, but then wipe the floor with Darkseid in Justice League. It really just depends on the circumstance, and no one really complains. The fact of the matter is that Bale is acclaimed and recognized in the role, and he'd definitely add a lot to the movie by being there. Just give him a more comic book costume and lose the gravely voice when he's with the other heroes, and it's golden.

MOS will show if Goyer is actually good now, though Nolan is still involved so who knows.

People seem to forget that seriously everything pre Dark Knight Trilogy written by Goyer was shit.

Just get Brad Bird to write and direct Justice League. It would be mindblowing

Nothing is official yet so no one, not even Goyer can say what's going on cuz he isn't even sure. But like he said, he has gone back and forth and Snyder said he'd most likely be given the job to direct JL so there are definitely some rumblings going on at WB.

But as we have been hearing for the past year, we won't know anything until the SD Comic Con.

Viltrumite has a point.

After TDKR, Bruce has no reason for the voice as everyone thinks he's dead. I don't mind the voice, but the voice could go away. A costume change is possible.

And seriously who gives a shit if Bales Batman starts acting more like the comic Justice League Batman?

Set it like a couple of years after TDKR and show he's gotten that much better.

Not awesome at all. He said his vision was to make up a villain and have Batman understand him. A made up villain? Whedons idea blows.

After Man Of Steel is released (I'm confident it'll be a big success), I'd imagine that development on most, if not all, DC movies will accelerate. I'm hoping that Snyder will direct Justice League.

And whether or not Bale should return as Batman.. as much as I LOVE his take on the Dark Knight, I feel like it works better in its own universe than in a JL one.

Plus, I'm ready to see something a little closer to the comic version. Extremely intelligent, several years into his career, etc.

I would love to see how their rebooted batman cab be like but if they keep Bale it wont be that bad..

Bale can still be Batman.. he can have grey hair, have someone make a joke about his voice.. have him use a the voice from batman begins..get some high tech in his suit.. Bale is dedicated

WB already stated that they will be making an announcement about all major characters "across the board" at San Diego Comic Con. You aren't going to hear anyone, including Goyer, give anything up until then. No need to panic or have a fanboy freak out. Just be patient.

The article says:

when they visited the set of the movie last year

Obviously Josh didn't do his homework as the set visit was in August of 2011. Which is almost 2 years ago. And with that said, what Goyer wasn't sure of 2 years ago is NOT NEWS.

@viltrumite

Yeah there's a great reason why Bale shouldn't come back as Batman. It's called age lol.

Bale is 39 and by the time a JL movie got off the ground he'd be almost 50. His character isn't like Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man, Batman is dependent on being able to take on thugs or villains hand to hand and all those stunts and action scenes probably wouldn't be something Bale would be interested in doing.

Also, in TDKR, Bruce faked his death and gave his
Batman cave and stuff to JGL so him coming back as
Batman wouldn't make any sense seeing as how he
"retired" to knock boots with Catwoman.

And if they rebooted Batman it would be even worse
to use Bale because we'd be looking at ANOTHER origin
movie and, again, Bale would be in his 40's...maybe
just a few years north of the age a young Bruce should
be...

As painful as it's going to be, they'll recast for
Batman.

"Imagine how awesome it would be if Joss Weedon directed a Batman Movie.."

I don't think all that awesome. Loved Nolan's Batman, and I love Whedon's films. Don't need directors I love to direct everything I am into. There's other guys whose tone and style fits Batman more.

Eh, I don't really care. I'd just be happy if WB shits or gets off the pot.

DC sure is good at being #2. At this point it's nothing more than comical that they can't get a movie into production for their core characters and the JL as a group. Maybe if they had done more than put out Batman and Superman films over the last couple decades, they'd be in a better position right now. I would love to see a JL movie. It would be amazing to see that team of characters sharing the screen. But nothing DC does gives me any confidence that they know what they are doing. Why wasn't all this worked out over the last few years as Marvel was building their universe? If they were thinking of a shared universe, why make the recent Batman movies in such an isolated universe? It feels like they didn't have any motivation for JL until Avengers did well. Marvel was able to make successful CBMs for their B list characters, and are moving into C/D list territory with GoTG. If they can get GoTG out and DC can't get characters like Flash and Wonder Woman out, that should tell you something.

DC, WE'RE WAITING TO THROW OUR MONEY AT YOU..You're move.

Christopher nolan may have given WB a successful batman franchise, but he is the one that screwed up the WBs approach. They want more Nolan crap, when instead they could have multiple successful franchises. So narrow minded an approach

@Soforizo You're comaring a trailer to full movies, that's how desperate they have you. You're missing my point completely. MOS looks great. But one movie isn't going to make up for the lack of production and direction they've had to this point. And for the record, I believe monetary gain is the benchmark for success with movie franchises. Have fun with your Superman movie!!! Maybe you'll get a new Batman in 2017!!!!
