While talking to Coming Soon about his upcoming animated film Happy Feet Two, director George Miller was asked about cancelled motion-capture Justice League project, that almost got made back in 2007. More below...

""You know, John Lennon said, 'Life is what happens when you're making other plans'", Miller said. "Films keep on coming out of my head and I never know what film I'm going to make next. Common and I were going to work on a 'Justice League' movie together. He was cast as Green Lantern and it was almost greenlit when it fell away. I fell in love with the guy and I called him up and said, 'You can't play the Green Lantern, but how about playing a penguin?' That was a whole bunch of complex events. It was the middle of a writers strike. There was Australian rebate legislation that was required to get the film going. It was just a whole complex series of events. It was no one particular's fault that it didn't happen."

Along Common as Green Lantern, D.J. Cotrona was supposed to play Superman, Megan Gale was cast as Wonder Woman, Armie Hammer as Batman and Adam Brody as the Flash. Budget was around $220 million before everything was cancelled. So, would you like to see a motion-capture Justice League film in the future?

I'm happy the movie fell through, make DC do it right, not just force a JLA movie out

Imagine if this had kicked off. The reversal of Marvel's Avengers...
But I'd be pissed that they left Martian Manhunter out of it. MoCap doesn't sound that bad really, it's definitely the route that Transformers should take. People might be a little stung that this would be targeting younger audiences, but (as Arrow and Canary love to say in Indentity Crisis) YOU HAVE TO UNDERSTAND that the target audience is who DC is appealing to, especially if it'll promote more readers.

Common would have been a shitty John Stewart, the guy is a mediocre actor. And I'm really glad that douchebag from The OC didn't get to play The Flash.

Lol!, DC's never gonna get it right with their franchises. Maaan, what IS wrong with them. With the exception of the Nolan films, Marvel is kicking their ass.

And its motion capture because they just can't get it right with live-action casting, look at green lanturd.

Common is an awful choice 4 John Stewart, he's by no means a bad actor but he's certainly not a good 1 either

dc have an advantage over marvel in that if the choose to do a JL movie they don't have to build up to it in seperate movies as;

superman
batman
wonder woman

and to a lesser extent
green lanter (thanks to the move - regardless of how rubbish)
flash
aquaman

are already known to the general audience, so no need to waste years building up to a JL movie movie interweaving seperate movies

The actors are unimportant to me, especially in concept mode. My question is what would they do with the characters? They're not going to jump Starro, and if anyone says Darkseid, so help me God....

I read that they had to move the filmimg of Mad Max 4 (Road Warrior for non-Australians)from the Australian desert to Nambia in Africa because its been raining so much the desert is all covered in wild flowers and grass.

Now its pissing down in Nambia too.

Cant find an post-apocalyptic wasteland anywhere when you need one.

who are those actors? if they push through with the project I want to see Zack Snyder to direct it with this cast:

Superman: Brandon Routh
Batman: Guy Pierce
Green Lantern: Vin Diesel
The Flash: Ryan Gosling

and yeah Megan Gale as Wonder Woman.

It was never intended to be a motion capture movie, there were discussions about it early in development due to the then-recent release of "Beowulf", but the final product wouldn't have been motion capture, it would have been good ol' fashioned live-action.

It was NOT a motion capture film, it was live action. A poster over at the old BlueTights forum (now reincarnated as EyesSkyward) made it up and sent it to a couple of websites to prove that they'd run anything and that 'sources' and necessarily sources.

Plus, Armie Hammer has talked about wearing his Batman suit, how cool it looked and how good he felt in it...he wouldn't have had a suit if the movie was going to be mo-cap. Megan Gale also spoke breifly about the intimidation factor of wearing the Wonder Woman costume.

Also...the cast was horrible and the script breakdown (again, posted on EyesSkyward.com) confirms that Justice League: Mortal was going to be just awful. Thank god this pos died.

Are there any production designs and pictures of the costumes available anywhere? That would be cool to see just how far they got.

So... I wasn't the only one who thought that Armie Hammer could be Batman. But I thought of him for a Batman Tv series.

I always think it odd when someone comments and says they are glad a movie did not get made. I would rather have a movie to watch and see SOMETHING than get not a damn thing.
The Nick Cage Superman might have been rubbish but it may have been funny, or a cult classic, Maybe even epic? but now we have nada. Yeah!
JLA may not have been greatest thing ever but it may have been damn good but instead we got nothing. Yeah!
Superman returns was a slow ploding film bit we did get the one awesome plane crash scene beter than nothing.
So many super hero films now being made that we are a little spoiled.
A true Green lantern fan I am sure would say they would want the GL film this year vs nothing.
Superhero movies will peak and there will be fewer made(or none).
When I am older I think it will be fun to revisit some older superhero films good and bad. It would be no fun at all to revisit nothing.

I thought the motion capture was going to be for OMACS and other non human beings. In some ways I feel a little relieved this film was being rushed some casting felt weird. I would have liked to still seen some of the concept art and the script even Armie Hammer said he put on a actual Batman costume and said it was different than any other one.

Yea, Common was a terrible choice. CBMs only have award winning stage actors. Oh wait a minute, that's bullshit. Sorry.

I actually think full CGI is the way to go for a Justice League movie. There are so many benefits, foremost amongst them the ability to do a fully intergalactic end of days movie for about half the cost. You could hire the current actors to voice their character with few if any scheduling issues to resolve, and if someone played hardball on their salary you could tell them to rack off - it would be no great loss. Also with fewer budgeting and scheduling issues you would be free to chase the holy grail of superhero films - a ball tearingly awesome trilogy meticulously planned from the get go. Finally, with the stylistic differences from the 'real' solo films it would be much easier to distance the JLA films - you might even be able to avoid the cross over convulsion altogether, something that I think has plagued the Marvel films somewhat.

Also, assuming the first one was a success, you might even be able to ramp things up and release one every couple of years. Provided the quality was there that would be really, really cool.
