Guillermo Del Toro Says He Is "Discussing" That JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK Movie

Last week we ran a rumor that the fan-favorite director may, in time, helm a DC movie based on members of the Justice League Dark called "Heaven Sent". This appeared to have been debunked, but it turns out Del Toro IS interested after all, and has been in talks about it..

When we heard Guillermo Del Toro was set to direct a movie based around some of the darker, magical DC Comics characters such as John Constantine, Swamp Thing, Zantana, Deadman etc, we took it with that ever ready grain of salt. Then when we heard Del Toro had denied any knowledge of this, it seemed it was destined to be one of those great "what if" stories. Well it turns out it may not have been a rumor after all, as Del Toro definitely sounds interested, and even says he's been "discussing" the possibility of a movie. Here's what the Hellboy director had to say to MTV Geek..

"When somebody asked me about "Justice League"…I'm not involved in "Justice League." I am discussing…I've been discussing with the fans and I've been very, very open about how much "Swamp Thing" was key when I was a kid. Comics in Mexico came on the first two days of the week. Around Tuesday and Wednesday I would go to the newsstand on my bicycle and I would get "Swamp Thing" every time it was available and I loved Jack Kirby's "Demon". I love Constantine and all that. You know, I've been pursuing doing something with them for many, many years. Hopefully it'll come to pass. But we are still just discussing."

So it sounds as if this is more in the to-do-list category for Del Toro, and it might be some time before any movement is made on it - if ever. Still, it's good to know that he is "pursuing" it anyway. Any and all updates as we have em.

I would have higher hopes and more interest in this than the actual JL movie that WB is making. Simply because GDT is a great director and loves the material, WB is just going to ruin JL anyway.

@leg0las

Pessimistic much? TDK series wasn't bad. Yeah there's GL, but MOS is on the way.

Del Toro, Bring it.

Jesus, stop calling it Justice League Dark. Everything in these articles sounds like he wants to make the "A Murder of Crows." Nerd rage.

He needs to actually start STICKING with a project. I mean seriously: The Hobbit, The Incredible Hulk tv series, Hellboy 3 and now he's discussing about doing Justice League Dark?! Come on Del Toro, follow thru with something already!

He's good enough to do a really good job at this. However, it should certainly happen AFTER The Justice League comes out. Let him ride the coat-tails of that movie and the mass amounts of cash that will be thrown at it.

Derezzed, he does say that first..but then at the end -

"I've been pursuing doing something with them for many, many years. Hopefully it'll come to pass. But we are still just discussing."

He's pursuing an discussing..I don't imagine he means just with fans!

YES, [frick] YES, LET IT BE!

I can even see a Justice League Dark type movie working b4 the an actual Justice League movie (obviously they couldn't be referred 2 as a Justice League then) but I'd image them operate in an incognito way; not necessarily known to the public as anything more than urban legends, a bit like how Del Toro handled Hellboy and the BPRD in his first outing

yeah i am on the lets make this happen side lol

52 inspired or not, however some may feel, these characters will rock under del toro. as a fan of hellboy since the start of it publication i have enjoyed the direction he took those films. seeing all these dudes in one movie will be awesome. and you know each character will have moments just for the fans. if the 52 reboot somehow makes this very movie happen as a fan boy i will be silenced

Wait, DelToro working for WB/DC and Disney/Marvel at the same time? Something doesn't sound right to me. I'll have to see it to believe it.

Agree with others about GDT being linked to so many projects and rarely sticking

@SageMode- Yeah, what's your point? JL is still three years away. There is plenty of time to find a director. By the way, Marvel didn't hire Whedon to direct The Avengers until summer 2010.
JULEZ13
JULEZ13 - 11/8/2012, 5:47 PM
This must be done! It'll be great for DC to get some of their 3rd tier heroes some much needed attention! Then they can branch off to their own solo films if and when its successful!

But only AFTER Justice League comes out. AFTER.

Boogie138 - 11/8/2012, 6:14 PM
@JULEZ13: i respectfully disagree. this might be what gets nay sayers into the wb/dc camp. if this comes out, with del toro, with his vison, it may help to show the dc cinimatic universe (for lack of a better term) is a very different experience from marvel. it could build the foundation for new and exciting franchises beyond just justice league
