Aside from Green Lantern's absence, the DCEU's Justice League was a faithful adaptation of what we saw in "The New 52" era of comic book storytelling.
Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Flash, and Cyborg made for an impressive lineup in 2017's Justice League, but what should the team look like in DC Studios' eventual reboot? Rumour has it a new move is on the way that will adapt "The New Frontier" storyline, though that doesn't necessarily mean the team will be the same as the one on the page.
Looking at the confirmed DCU slate, comments from James Gunn, and our own hopes for this movie, we've put together a seven-hero roster we think would be nothing short of awesome to see on screen.
You can find our dream Justice League lineup by clicking on the "Next" button below!
7. Green Lantern
HBO Max's Lanterns will be the first time we've seen Green Lantern on our screens since the 2011 movie starring Ryan Reynolds.
Hal Jordan and John Stewart will take centre stage in that TV show but which of them should join the Justice League? There could be room for both, but if we have to pick only one, then it's John. Those of you who love the Justice League Unlimited animated series will surely appreciate that, but he deserves the chance to shine on a major platform.
There will have to be a good reason for Hal's absence; perhaps he'll be forced to remain in outer space fending off an attack from the Sinestro Corps or something along those lines.
6. Vixen
The speed of a cheetah. The charging force of a bull. The ferocity of a tiger. The strengths, abilities and attributes of the entire animal kingdom are at the beck and call of Mari McCabe, a hero who channels these powers through a magical family heirloom to battle those who would harm the natural world.
Gunn has already expressed an interest in doing something with Vixen in the DCU, and she'd make for a fantastic addition to the Justice League.
Her powers are unlike any of the other characters listed here and given how effectively portrayed those were in the Arrowverse, we can only imagine how good they'd look with a budget as big as a movie like Justice League.
5. Peacemaker
Some of you won't appreciate this addition, but we're getting it out of the way early because it's arguably inevitable.
If the early days of the DCU have taught up anything, it's that Gunn is intent on bringing back many of the actors and characters he worked with on The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker. John Cena's Christopher Smith found redemption in the latter's season finale and, after season 2, could quite easily be established as a legit superhero.
As well as bringing some levity to this team, the fact he doesn't have superpowers would make him an intriguing ally to a certain Caped Crusader and someone who could be useful during the less flashy element of this team's missions.
4. Wonder Woman (Donna Troy)
Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent will be part of the new DCU, but where does that leave Wonder Woman? The character's upcoming threequel has been scrapped and it's unclear whether Gal Gadot will get to reprise the role of Diana Prince.
An Amazon from Themyscira, the home of Wonder Woman, Donna began her career as Wonder Girl and, on Earth-15, even took over the Wonder Woman mantle. That's something we'd like to see in this reality too, especially if it means Gadot can return as a slightly older Diana who is a mentor to Donna the way her mother was to her.
This will be a controversial addition for some of you, but also a fun way to put a fresh spin on the hero after that Themyscira-set HBO Max series.
3. Batman
The DCU's Batman will be busy raising a son in this reality, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't still find the time to join the Justice League.
An essential addition to the team's roster, the Dark Knight can bring his riches and smarts to the League, serving as the de facto leader alongside Superman. We'd also like to see Gunn explore the fact Batman doesn't trust his fellow heroes, including the fact he creates weapons capable of taking each of them down if and when it becomes necessary to do so.
You can have the League without Batman, but that's not something any of us would really want to see, right?
2. Martian Manhunter
Zack Snyder may have introduced Martian Manhunter in his cut of Justice League, but he's a character who deserves a second chance in the new DCU.
A longtime ally of the team - and a pivotal character in "The New Frontier" storyline - seeing this world from J'onn J'onzz's perspective would be nothing short of fascinating. The fact he's an alien shapeshifter could even sew a few seeds of distrust within the team, with the Manhunter eventually given the opportunity to prove himself a true hero.
Whatever the case may be, unleashing the full extent of this hero's powers on screen would be a huge win for the DCU.
1. Superman
We briefly considered putting Supergirl here, but c'mon, the Man of Steel needs to be part of the Justice League.
While the fact he's so powerful obviously means whatever threat this team faces will have to be even stronger, we've already sat through one movie featuring this team where Kal-El was sidelined for almost the entire time. That's just not good enough and the younger Superman needs to take centre stage in this particular team-up.
It's a good opportunity to show what he can do and an even better one to firmly establish Supes as the focal point of this newly created universe.
