JUSTICE LEAGUE Star Henry Cavill Says "The Snyder Cut" Should Be Released "Whether You Agree With It Or Not"

Enola Holmes star Henry Cavill was recently a guest on the Happy Sad Confused podcast and, as you might expect, the topic of Superman and Justice League: The Snyder Cut soon came up.

While the actor was present when Zack Snyder announced plans to release his director's cut of the DC Comics movie, he's chosen his words carefully about the ensemble, clearly not wanting to say much about those reshoots and what ended up happening to his face courtesy of some dodgy CGI.

In this interview, the British actor made it clear how important it is for Snyder's vision for Justice League to be shared with the world.

"I’m just really excited to see his vision realized," he started. "He got to be the train. I think it’s only fair that train gets to reach its station which he was aiming for. I think it’s important that that vision is realized."

"Whether you agree with it or not, it doesn’t matter," Cavill continued. "It’s a storyteller’s, it’s a filmmaker’s right to have that vision realized. I’m excited to see it. I’m excited to see what that vision was and how it looks." As for what fans can expect, he added: "[Zack's] got the advantage of hindsight now. It’s going to be even better. I just want to see a good movie."

Cavill makes a lot of good points here, and it does feel right for Snyder to be given the opportunity to share what he had planned for Justice League before Warner Bros. took the movie out of his hands.

What's your take on these comments from the Superman actor?

Quite right really, let people enjoy things. Whether you support a Snyder Cut or not, at least take solace in the fact SOME people will like it.

@EskimoJ - I think Henry’s saying what he’s thinking at this point, meaning he himself is the one that doesn’t agree with it. “I have this friend, and he says Zack can look at how much his movies, I mean movie, sucked, and do better.”

I could be reading it wrong idk.

@TheWalkingCuban - Maybe Cavill is just over the whole thing. Maybe he comes back as Superman, but if not, he's happy playing Geralt and just wants people to enjoy his work without arguing about it on the internet all the time.

@Spock0Clock - for sure, this did not turn out well for him. Hopefully it’s closure.

@Spock0Clock - I guarantee if Cavill ever got the chance to play Bond he'll say goodbye to Superman and everything related to him.

@TheWalkingCuban - It isn't a maybe you're reading it wrong. You know you definitely are reading it wrong. The film wasn't his vision so how can Snyder look back at something that wasn't really his movie and say that his movie sucked and he should change it? That wasn't the point. It was about making his vision that he never even saw on film better.

@rkshuttleworth - true and he seems to allude to that aspect of it, vision realized and what not, but he also seems to be saying that which I described. I don’t think he’s contradicting himself: I think he’s right on both counts. It remains to be seen if A) he gets to realize his vision (I’d say he will) B) hindsight helps (I don’t see why it wouldn’t) C) it’s better received by critics (not talking fans, fanboys, haters etc)

And D) it’s all subjective, as the guy on the DC Squadcast likes to say.

Btw I like most everything DCEU except Suicide squad, and JL lost my kids’ attention so that’s a fail but I personally didn’t hate it, also didn’t love the BoP choreo. I pretty much like all the rest. All that to say I’m not trying to fish for negativity from Cavill: I just think it sounds low key negative, but mostly positive.

Being happy for your friend getting another crack at something he screwed up is perfectly ok. Saying it is his right to have his vision realized is an asinine statement.

@inkniron - Why so? If an artist started painting a picture and someone else was brought in to finish it, it wouldn't feel right, even if they made an honest to God decent attempt at replicating the style of the original artist. There's a purity to seeing the original vision of the original artist as it was intended from start to finish, even if the end product is still not something critics love.

@inkniron - When WB (or any studio) hires a director, they're placing their trust in them. And if something happens to shatter that trust (like a Part 1 fizzling in theaters, or inappropriate behavior on set, or mismanagement of resources, or a rough cut that seems unworkable, or whatever it is), it's not unreasonable for them to pull the plug on a director. Sometimes studios have bad judgement about it when to pull that plug, but it's still their plug to pull (even if it doesn't really make them look very good either).

It sucks, but it's life. Nobody is owed 300 million dollars of other peoples' money invested in their vision without any oversight.

@elgaz - Even if you want to use the "artist" label, it's not even close to the same thing. He was an "artist", commissioned to a job, the employer wasn't happy, and he was replaced. Moreover, he did it under contract, and the only one with the rights to do anything were his employers.

He's more akin to a house painter that got fired 3/4 through a job, someone else came in to finish it, and it still turned out like shit; mostly because the new painter couldn't start from scratch and there was a deadline to get it done.

@emeraldtaurus -

The world doesnt' work that way. The people who pay for things ultimately have a say in how they are made. If people don't want interference then they can just make the movies themselves.
emeraldtaurus
emeraldtaurus - 9/30/2020, 10:12 AM
@Goldboink - eh...I suppose. But WB need to know when to back off . It's their fault BvS was slaughtered by critics (3hr long ultimate Cut was far better). And then the watered down Josstice League....I'm pretty sure the Snyder Cut will be far superior ..."bub"

ChimiFnChangas - 9/30/2020, 3:36 PM
@emeraldtaurus - yes if WB knew what was good for them, they'd back off and stop interfering. But they're the owners of the product, so it's well within their rights to dictate what they want the product to be.
