JUSTICE LEAGUE Star Jeremy Irons Looks Forward To Watching The Snyder Cut, But Hated Joss Whedon's Version

Love or hate the "Snyder Cut" of Justice League, it was infinitely better than Joss Whedon's version of the movie, and that's a sentiment Alfred Pennyworth actor Jeremy Irons most definitely agrees with.

Short of a surprise cameo in The Flash, Jeremy Irons' time as Alfred Pennyworth appears to be at an end following the release of Zack Snyder's Justice League last year. He first played Bruce Wayne's loyal butler in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and did a great job as the iconic character.

Talking to Variety, Irons was asked if he's watched the "Snyder Cut" of Justice League yet.

"Strangely, I think I have it and I haven’t seen it," the actor admitted. "I shall have to hunt it out and see if I have it somewhere online or on a DVD. I remember talking to Zack [Snyder] before he did it and being very interested to see what he came up with. It couldn’t have been worse."

The trade asked if he meant it couldn't be worse than Joss Whedon's theatrical cut of Justice League, to which he responded: "I don’t think it could have been, could it?" The interviewer acknowledged that the movie was dreadful, and Irons - never one to mince his words - said: "Well, so did I."

Clearly, he wasn't a fan of what Whedon brought to the table as Justice League's new director. Irons did appear in some of the reshot scenes, but doesn't seem to have enjoyed that experience or the finished product. He joins a growing list of actors to slate the 2017 version of the DC Comics adaptation, and it's no wonder Warner Bros. is now looking to move on from this era of the DC Extended Universe.

Ben Affleck recently called Justice League "the worst experience," and described his time working on it as "awful." That was obviously in reference to Whedon being behind the camera because the actor happily returned to shoot those extra scenes as the Dark Knight for the Snyder Cut last year.

I don't remember any different Alfred scenes in either version, so atleast that remains largely the same. Aside from that though, I don't have preference over either version. Somewhere between the two is the best version of it

@bkmeijer - There's definitely a really great 3 hour version somewhere in the Snyder cut, the 4 hours is a bit excessive.

Irons was a really good Alfred imo.

Whedon's JL sucked, but it wasn't fully his fault, I guess that if he had made a JL movie from scratch it could have been from at least decent to really good.

@SethBullock - imagine if they kept Irons as Alfred, but with Keaton's Batman. They'd be about the same age. Talk about confusing

@dracula - Big time

Do you want the sloppy rushed one or the one that takes twice as much time to kinda fixes just a few of the problems with the original, doesn't fix the biggest problems at all and actually adds a few problems in as well? 🤷🏽‍♂️

Whedon seems to be carrying the Mr Unpopular torch for sure, I haven't heard too many come out and say he was a pleasure to work with. Snyder for all his faults seems to be well liked and respected as a director by his colleagues and peers, even if his artistic choices don't always sit well with fanbases. His Director's cut of JL wasn't perfect and could have been trimmed down a bit for sure, but for me it was a massive improvement over the theatrical release which was hugely disappointing. The Justice League's first big budget cinematic outing shouldn't have been such a mess.

The Snyder Cut was a better movie, rewatch Wheddon's version which is terrible and difficult to sit through multiple times, then watch The Snyder Cut which I personally enjoyed more.

This doesn't even make sense.

"The movie was dreadful"

"So did I"

Also the headline uses the word "hated" but it isn't in any of the quotes?

Interviewer: I thought the Whedon version was dreadful.

Irons: So, did I!
