MAN OF STEEL Star Michael Shannon Shares Thoughts On Planned ZACK SNYDER'S JUSTICE LEAGUE Release

After playing General Zod in Man of Steel, Michael Shannon has never had a bad word to say about director Zack Snyder and has been an avid supporter of the Justice League "Snyder Cut" when asked about it. During a recent interview with James Van Osdol on the Car Con Carne Podcast, the outspoken actor was asked for his thoughts on Zack Sndyer's Justice League coming to HBO Max.

"I feel for my friend Zack Snyder, he had a rough time of it," Shannon started. "Between the struggles with his family and what he went through with Warner Bros., Zack is a sweet, kind, gentle, hard-working, super conscientious human being and I hope that this release gives him some sense of satisfaction or vindication or whatever because he’s such a good person."

"[He] deserves better than he’s been dealing with," the actor concluded (shots fired at Warner Bros. eh?).

Shannon also reflected on his time playing General Zod in the DC Extended Universe, and remains grateful for the experience to play Superman's greatest foe on the silver screen. "I still, to this day, can’t even believe that he called me to do that. That did not seem like something that was within my reach. But yeah, he got me - he got me in there, so, thank God."

Shannon could definitely be classified as a "serious actor," so his praise of Snyder is definitely meaningful, and it's great to see how supportive he is of him almost a decade after they worked together.

Are you guys psyched for Zack Snyder's Justice League?

Honestly...It's one thing to hate the art and another to hate the artist.
I mean, imma proud member of the F.Y.R. Squad (F*ck you Rian) but it's all jokes in the end! :P
I don't ACTUALLY f*cking hate Ruin Johnson, but just his movie.

Same thing for Bendis or Snyder, i don't hate them, matter of fact, i love their passion, even if i don't agree with their vision.

So imho people really need to differentiate that.

@Doomsday8888 - I don't think you can ever truly separate art and artist. Whatever you create reflects who you are on a deep level. I know I've learned a lot about myself by picking apart my own writing, looking for subconscious themes and motifs. Your deepest fears and hopes and self-image and worldview get drawn out of you when you spend enough time building a fictional world.

The line between criticism of the work and trying to uncover the intention of the artist is so blurred as to be essentially meaningless (and I don't believe in dead authors, they live through their work). It's never my goal to deride someone purely because I dislike their work, though. Only when I think they are doing active harm to the culture do I really get upset or nasty (and I do think Snyder gleefully tried to do that and may continue to, so I'll continue to push back as I see a need).

But as was said above, I have no reason to believe Snyder is a personally malicious dude. I don't think I've ever seen a bad word about him as a human being from someone who knows him. I bear him no ill will, wish him good fortune and health. But as an creative, I think he's an incredible mess.

@Spock0Clock
I get where you're coming from, matter of fact...on some level, i actually agree with you because i also do that.

But that doesn't make it right.

And that's what i'm saying.
Unless you don't pretend that you're being objective and rational about it.
That your review over this random piece of any given medium is not UNBIASED.

As long as we are clear on that, i think we're good.

Take this painting for example:

Baby Jesus with Mother Mary.

I showed it to lots of people and they all loved it, because yeah...It's beautiful.

I can't even begin to describe the reaction i got when i revelead the name of the artist who made it! :P

So yeah, pic kinda related.

@Doomsday8888 - Well, if we're criticizing that particular artist, then I'm not exactly going to start with his brush technique.

You just know that if this film is just slightly better than what Warner Brothers made, Snyder cultists are going to use it as another excuse to throw Joss Whedon under the bus, despite the fact that he was under heavy restrictions and had to cut it down to 2 hours. Plus he has a better track record than snyder.

@dracula - Whedon is a complicated dude with lots of nooks and crannies to him that are worthy of criticism (even severe criticism). As dirty as some people think WB did Snyder, they're not doing Whedon any favors, either. Especially if he really thought he was going to get to do a Batgirl movie after he cleaned up the Justice League mess.
