Warner Bros. Finally Reveals Who Will Receive The Director's Credit For JUSTICE LEAGUE

After months of speculation and rumours, the Justice League official site has revealed who will be taking the sole director credit for the movie. So, Whedon or Snyder? Hit the jump for details.

Fans have been eagerly searching for signs that Justice League is still a Zack Snyder film. Now it seems we have what equates to an official confirmation. Justice League has only one credited director and his name is Zack Snyder. This news has been confirmed on both the official poster and the website for the film.

This falls in line with reports from the studio and other individuals involved with the film that Joss Whedon’s changes to the direction of the movie were minimal. Everyone including stars Gal Gadot and Ben Affleck have shared opinions on who is responsible for the direction of the film. Gadot suggested that it is still Snyder’s movie while Ben Affleck has pointed to an amalgamation of ideas from both directors.

Rumours have been circulating since Whedon took over that his changes would be substantial with some even suggesting that the entire third act of the movie had been altered. This news seems to put those reports in doubt.

However, it is worth pointing out that Whedon has remained mainly silent throughout the change of direction, perhaps letting his work speak for itself. It’s quite possible that he simply did not want the director credit. As well as this, we should consider whether the DGA’s rules would have allowed him to receive the credit at all. The DGA has official guidelines in place to determine who will receive the director credit for a movie and they do not allow appeals. As such, it is important to realise that this was not a decision made by Warner Bros or anyone else other than the DGA.

Will this put to rest the theories that the film has completely changed since Whedon was announced to take over? That’s unclear and the fact is we may never know how much of an input the famed director actually had in shaping the final product.

In other more predictable news, Justice League has received an official rating of PG-13. If WB does embrace an R Rating in the DCEU it will not start with start with Justice League

Good.

Even tho a co directors note would be noticed most by unrelentingly marvel fanboys; (not that there’s anything wrong with that, if you’ve seen Seinfeld you get the joke) lol

I’ve always considered Man of Steel to be a quiet masterpiece and irregardless of what many people may or may not think of BvS Snyder has been the architect of a universe that has endured in the wake of things like Sony’s ill begotten pre marvel universe Spider-Man and the always interesting but insanely confusing movie universe that is X men. And all in the wake of unspeakable tragedy.

How something can even be done like that is without precedent.

Even if he never comes back, I for one, am grateful of his time, energy and efforts spent in shaping a universe for more talented filmakers to become part of the DCU mythos, and make their own mark.

@DJRock93 - MoS is a quiet masterpiece. What did you expect from the mind that thinks such thoughts?

Snyder finished principal photography so of course he was always going to get the credit, thems the rules and rightfully so, even if Whedon changed 40% of the movie.

Okok but we all knew this since he put in most of the work and had a hand in the story. Probably didnt wanna have Joss Whedons Avengers and Joss Whedons Justice League being a thing. I still say Joss had a bigger hand than we think.

Well Snyder shot the film, then Whedon came in for the reshoots. Whedon maybe didn't want to put his name on it out of respect out of Snyder. In the end, the film is what matters.

"Will this put to rest the theories that the film has completely changed since Whedon was announced to take over?"

No, I don't think these type of rumors will ever go away because they grow and spread because of writers like those on this website. Rumors help create advertising dollars, so they will always be with us. Unfortunately.

And "completely changed"? I never read that ignorant exaggerated rumor. There was not enough time for Joss to "completely change" it. What clueless writer was stating that?

@SHFL - The tone of the movie can be completely changed by the editing, and which takes are used. So with Whedon presumably overseeing the final cut of the film, in addition to what everyone admits were extended reshoots, Whedon would not have to have reshot the whole film to make a major impact on the way it is when finally released. When all is said and done, this will likely feel more like a Whedon film than the previous Snyder films in the series.

@pclark - Okay. Thank you. I like your answer.

I know many people would either like one or the other to do this film completely, but maybe, between the two of them, we might get a unique combination of styles that could end up being pretty cool to a lot of people.

"Whedon has remained mainly silent," - a true professional, he just does his best and collects the cheques.
