Once the currently untitled
Avengers 4 hits theatres on 3rd May next year Joe and Anthony Russo will have directed a total of four films for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the most of any director thus far. This coupled with the size of the projects that they've helmed, led some to think that their time with the MCU may be coming to an end if not a brief hiatus.
Speaking with
ScreenRant however, Joe Russo revealed that they're still very much in the business of making Marvel movies and that the imminent merger with FOX Studios, that will see the Fantastic Four and X-Men properties return home, have them very excited to continue making movies in this universe:
Joe Russo: Not yet. We love Marvel, that amazing experience with them and Disney. We love comic books. We love telling these stories. Obviously, the Fox / Disney mergers are incredibly exciting to us as comic book fans. We’re just trying to get Avengers 4 done and then, you know, we’d love to work with those guys again.
This will obviously please fans, especially considering that both
Captain America: The Winter Soldier and
Civil War are two of the highest regarded films in the franchise and anticipation for
Avengers: Infinity War is at unfathomable levels.
Let's just hope that by the time production wraps on
Avengers 4 the duo aren't burnt out ala Joss Whedon with
Age of Ultron and don't have some of that excitement tempered. Fingers crossed.
What do you think? Are you excited to see further MCU films from the Russo Bros? Or would you rather some new blood? What project would you like to see the pair tackle next? Leave your thoughts below.
