Denzel Washington Has Never Been Approached For A Marvel Or DC Role, But Is Keeping The Door Open

Despite rumors to the contrary, Denzel Washington has revealed that he's never been offered a role in a Marvel or DC superhero movie during an interview to promote his latest film, The Equalizer 2...

Denzel Washington is widely regarded as one of the greatest actors working today, so it's more than a little surprising that none of the major comic book movie movie studios have ever approached him about playing a superhero.

Over the years there have been several rumors linking Washington to high-profile characters such as Lex Luthor and Green Lantern, but during an interview with JOE.ie to promote The Equalizer 2, the Academy Award-winner maintains that he's never been offered a role in a Marvel or DC project - although he does appear to start another sentence, before deciding on "we’ll see what happens. Never say never" instead.

You can check out the interview for yourselves below. The relevant chat comes in around the 2:10 mark.

Anyone got any good suggestions? I'm drawing a blank...

@Talontd - Blue Marvel would be a perfect role for Denzel.

@Talontd - Adam Brashir/Blue Marvel. A black superhero on the older side would be perfect. But they may go a little younger since he seems like a character they'd want to use for years to come.

@Talontd - Lex Luthor!

@guyatadesk - Yes please! I'd pick Lex Luthor as my ultimate choice for him to play (and NOT because he was bald in THE EQUALIZER).

@Talontd -

I think Denzel would be the perfect Highfather in Ava DuVernay's New Gods film.

He will be in a Marvel role, no doubt in my mind.

He is one of, if not the best actor working today, imo.

and he can still be an ultimate badass as you can see in Magnificent 7 and Equalizer.

I could see him as Blue Marvel or Kang The Conqueror.

UltimateNullifier and Nameless hit the nail on the head. Denzel would make the perfect Blue Marvel. Plus I’ve always loved Blue Marvel’s story becuase in reality if a character as powerful as Superman or Dr Manhattan was Black in the 60’s he’d be forced to retire, becuase most of America would lose their minds if the most powerful being on the planet was a Black man.

Charles Xavier perhaps? I know personally, I wouldn't mind it one bit, while others may disagree.

I just want to see him in a substantial role, and think he would own that one as a teacher and helping mutant kids.

A lot of people’s first thought I think would be Blue Marvel which does seem like a fairly natural fit, but sorry Kevin Grevioux that character needs a new name. Especially if he is going to have a movie.

@TheUnworthyThor - If Ant-Man can keep his name, so can Blue Marvel. And he has the added bonus of not having "Black" in his name for no reason other than his race (Black Vulcan, Black Lightning, Black Manta, Black Mask, Black Goliath, etc.).
