SDCC 2013: Marvel Universe Toy Line Confirmed to be Transitioning to AVENGERS ASSEMBLE Brand

There has been some confusion regarding the reported cancellation of the Marvel Universe 3 3/4 inch action figure toy line. Hasbro has now confirmed what the plan really is to CBM.

After Preview Night for Comic-Con ended, some mixed reports came out of Hasbro's booth stating that the Marvel Universe 3 3/4 inch action figure line was being canceled in 2014-ish. This was only kind of correct.

In fact, on Friday, a Hasbro representative at SDCC told ComicBookMovie.com's The Daily SuperHero what is really happening to the Marvel Universe toy line. Here's an official report from a Hasbro staffer straight from the Comic-Con showroom floor.

"[Hasbro] does not know who, or why, another staff member was telling reporters and [/or] attendees that the Marvel Universe line is being canceled because it is not. It is slowly transitioning into becoming an Avengers Assemble figure line with new packaging, sculpts and with the same great detail and articulation kids and collectors have grown to love with the Marvel Universe line."

The Hasbro rep also stressed one very important thing regarding the company's focus on Marvel toys.

"A big focus right now is to listen to the collectors and give them want they want which is the best product Hasbro can produce."

So there you have it. Marvel Universe is changing into the Avengers Assemble toy line and is not being canceled and it's important to note that the rebranded toy line will not be solely based on the new animated series on Disney XD.

Now check out some photos below that are straight from Hasbro's booth at SDCC, of the brand new Avengers Assemble 3 3/4 inch action figure line. The first Avengers Assemble figures are scheduled to hit store shelves right before the holiday season later this year.

Man, I do hope that these Avengers Assemble figures live up to the MU line. So far, it looks like it's got a dew good figs (Cap, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Nick Fury, Red Skull, the Leader).

Fingers crossed on this....

The thing I liked about the old MU figures is that they were simple and only brought minimal accessories.

These bring those annoying, giant plastic launchers.

Why is it that the toys and the artwork look nothing like the actual show.

@MCUFan1

Totally agreed bro!!

I'm anxiously waiting a sequel to The Incredible Hulk with Hulk battling The Leader with the help of Doc Samson! I would also love to see Hulk go up against Red Hulk and A-Bomb however I highly doubt Marvel will take on that route unless they worked them into a possible sequel??!

Only time will tell man!

@Theblackwolverine marvel will because kevin feige said mark is signed to a 6 deal contract. I believe mark can be the next big thing in the mcu. I also believe they will indeed make a planet hulk film after he fight ross when he turn. I don't care what disney said about it being like john carter because it wont.

Except all the figures that are pictured are shit sculpts from franchise lines that sucked to begin with. Hasbro is notorious for rebranding shit sculpts.

I used to collect them when they were Toy Biz. They were bigger and more detailed. Now theyre tiny and cheaply made but cost more than the larger Toy Biz figures.

McFarlane needs to stop playing around and get the badass Spawn stuff going again.

Saw em today. They're alright. Was really impressed by the leader and red skull and black widow. The others looked like the early mu figs that had a little less detail. I think we'll be in good hands (well, the same hands...)

The Iron Man figure looks like a Happy Meal toy.

They need to break out a decent set of Guardian figures. The Hasbro pack has a Rocket with no articulation and a little Groot in a flower pot.

WruceBayne - 7/19/2013, 6:10 AM
They should go back to the 80's G.I. Joe articulation on these. I think the articulation on them now is crap.

I would just like to go on record as saying- WHY THE F do action figures need "launching" "firing" anything? All that happens is that my kids end up shooting me in the face with them. And then they get lost. GEEZ, ITS OK TO JUST USE YOUR IMAGINATION!

FantasticSpidey
FantasticSpidey - 7/19/2013, 6:52 AM
MU is better than that stuff. No one wants shield launching action or whatever the crap Red Skull is doing with the Phoenix Force Blaster.

@maryboo has it right:

A good figure > a mediocre figure with some gimmick.
