The original
Death Race 2000 is a 1975 American cult classic sci-fi action movie that was directed by Paul Bartel, and starred David Carradine, Simone Griffeth and Sylvester Stallone.
Paul W. S. Anderson directed a remake entitled simply
Death Race, which premiered 2008, that starred Jason Statham, Ian McShane, Joan Allen, Tyrese Gibson and also included a cameo (by voice-over) of the late David Carradine reprising his role as the mysterious Frankenstein.
A comic book sequel entitled Death Race 2020 was published in 1995 by Roger Corman's short-lived Cosmic Comics imprint. Written by Pat Mills of 2000 AD fame, with art by Kevin O'Neill. The comic book, as the title indicates, took place 20 years after the movie and dealt with Frankenstein's return to the race. New racer characters introduced included Von Dutch, The Alcoholic, Happy the Clown, Steppenwolf, Rick Rhesus, and Harry Carrie.
The comic lasted eight issues and now to fuel more life into
Death Race theres a new movie, a sequel but really its a prequel, as its set before the events of the 2008 reboot movie
Death Race.
Death Race 2 is directed by Dutch filmmaker Roel Reiné, written by Tony Giglio and Paul W. S. Anderson. The prequel explores the career of the Death Race car driver Frankenstein. In the beginning, the original Frankenstein dies in a race. This film explores the life of the original Frankenstein from the beginning as his life as a bank robber until the beginning of the original
Death Race movie.
