We love a bit of "Stampage" here on CBM. The actor is something of a Brit icon, having appeared in the likes of Young Guns, Far from the Madding Crowd, Priscilla Queen Of The Desert and of course, Superman 2 as the villainous General Zod. He is also very spiritual, funny, forthcoming, and what you might call...eccentric. We've covered quite a few of his very interesting (often bizarre) anecdotes about starring in not only Superman but Star Wars too, and his latest account to the audience at the LA Landmark Theatre on running into a group of fans discussing Man Of Steel is a good one indeed.

"I spent an hour and a half driving down here from Ojai, and the first thing I wanted to do when I got out was take a leak. I go into the men's bathroom and there's a whole load of guys – obviously, ‘Man Of Steel’ had just turned out. So I take a pee, and I start washing my hands, and there's about 10 or 12 guys there, and they're talking about ‘Man Of Steel’ One says, 'Well, I don't know. If they'd have, like, peeled the buildings off the screen I wouldn't have been surprised, you know?' Another says, 'It was all so loud.' Then the guy down at the other end, who was only a little guy, said, 'Yeah, yeah!' And he said 'It really wasn't as good as the first one, was it?'”

At this point the legendary actor felt he needed to weigh in. “I just couldn't resist,” laughed Stamp, “I said, 'You're a very discerning man.' And as soon as they heard the voice they said, [screaming] 'Oh my God! It's General Zod!'”

Stamp's Zod > Shannon's Zod

Faora rules them both.

Shannon was a worthy Zod. I never cared for Zod to begin with so I didn't care if it was an amazing performance or not. It sure beats the hell out of the Smallville Zod. He was just plain annoying.

Michael Shannon's Zod is up there with Hiddleston's Loki, Hardy's Bane and Ledger's Joker as one of the greatest comicbook movie villains of all time. Shannon is the best part about Man of Steel.

Stamp completely pulls off the "superior" attitude. The new guy kind of reminds me of Dwight from "The Office".

Saying "Kneel before Zod" while in a public bathroom full of guys might have unintended consequences...

It would have been funnier if he commanded "Kneel before Zod!" to the men in the bathroom. If he, did, I'm sure most of them would have shat themselves

You'll always have a special place in the fans' heart Stamp. Now move along for the new generation. Kneel before Zod -

Loved Donner's Superman. Loved Stamp as Zod. Loved MOS. Loved Michael Shannon as Zod. Great story.

If they were to make a sequel w/ brainiac, I'd like to see a flashback w/ Zod on Colu. He said, "Everything I do is for my people". I think showing the Kryptonians on Colu would really display that Zod wasn't all bad.

It would've been awesome if Stamp said "So this is Planet Houston." total geek out moment for me haha.

And comparing Stamp's Zod and Shannon's Zod is like comparing apples and oranges (much like Nicholson's Joker and Ledger's Joker). IMO both of them did an awesome job.

Lastly, yes Faora can kick both of their asses hehe.

I think both actors did well as Zod & portrayed different takes on Zod, it's somewhat unfair to compare the two. Different generations.

Sigh we can't just like both?

When Ledger was Joker, "Jack sucked as Joker." When Mark was Hulk in Avengers "Ed sucked as Banner." When Bale was Batman, "Keaton sucked as Batman." When Don was War Machine, "[frick] Howard for not wanting to take less money."

Ever hear of liking both?

I liked Stamp a tad bit more. His portrayal exemplified the arrogance and superiority complex that I would expect from Zod. Shannon at times seemed to ramble.

I love how actors portray a comic book character then, act like they wrote the comic that created the character. When all they did was read (if at all), the same comic books we fans have been reading for years.

This is weird because in another article I read, Stamp said he hasn't seen Man of Steel yet.
